Abstract

The cross-winding mechanism is for use with conical spools, where the spool is driven by a friction roller and the thread laid by a guide. The point (2) where the spool (1) bears against the driving roller (3) is moved with the thread guide, and the roller has a flexible outer wall rotating about eccentric axes so that it assumes an oblong spiral form. The eccentric axes are moved so as to synchronise the contact point with the guide. The roller wall can be of elastomer or textile material, or of one or more concentric spirals of metal.
