Abstract

The unit has a governor to keep speed and output constant, together with an energy storage device. This can be an electrical accumulator, a flywheel or a pressure vessel and where the latter is used it can be of the closed type filled with compressible material, being used in conjunction with a hydraulic pump. A temporary bypass for the governor can be provided and there can be a hydraulic transmission system between flywheel (20) and engine and/or transmission. The hydraulic system can be used to start the engine.
