Description
The invention relates to a device for removing wound secretions. The device is particularly suitable for the permanent removal of wound secretions from body cavities.
Wound secretions are predominantly watery secretions that can escape from a wound due to injury. The composition of the wound secretions, which are mainly fed from the cell interstices, can vary widely. They contain predominantly admixtures of serum proteins and traces of blood constituents. In an infection, wound secretions also contain increased amounts of macrophages to eliminate the microorganisms. This can be linked to the formation of pus. If the wound exudate from an inflamed body cavity is not removed, this leads to the formation of abscesses.
Various devices are used in practice to remove wound secretions from body cavities. The use of drainage tubes, abdominal towels or smaller sponges is known. However, the known devices are associated with disadvantages. The use of drainage tubes very quickly leads to the formation of channels in the body cavity. The wound secretion in the body cavity is thus extracted only when it is in the vicinity of such a channel. Otherwise, it remains in the body cavity. Drainage hoses are therefore not suitable for permanently and as completely as possible suction of wound secretions. Drainage hoses are mostly made of silicone. Bellycloths are usually rectangular layers of cotton or a similar soft and absorbent material that are incorporated into the body cavity. The absorbent material absorbs the wound secretions present in the body cavity. Naturally, however, such a belly cloth has only a limited capacity for absorbing body fluids. For this reason, it is necessary to remove the abdomen after a certain time from the body cavity and replace it with a new one. This replacement of the abdominal sheets is associated with surgery and permanent anesthesia, which can adversely affect the patient's physical and mental condition. Moreover, the practitioner who puts a belly-cloth into a body cavity has to make sure that it is replaced before its capacity is actually exhausted. For this reason, the practitioner has to speculate when this will be the case. Sponges are too crude and inflexible to bring into body cavities. Since the sponges are rigid and too small, they can only be used in small body cavities. Due to the nature of the sponges is to be expected damage to organ surfaces. The non-aspirated sections of the body cavity stick together and can ignite. They are therefore not or only very limited suitable for the suction of wound secretions from body cavities.
Sponges are therefore used primarily for the treatment of external wounds. For this purpose, the sponge is applied to the wound, the wound and the sponge thereon covered with a vacuum film and the sponge connected to a drainage tube, via which a negative pressure between the top of the outer wound and the bottom of the vacuum film can be generated. The wound secretion can be sucked out of the open wound. The sponge can be tailored to the size of the wound by cutting. However, the sponge must not only cover the wound but also have a certain thickness over the wound to provide even distribution of negative pressure across the wound surface. However, a particular disadvantage is the risk that the sponge clogged, so that the negative pressure can no longer be distributed evenly over the wound surface. Another disadvantage is the too large sponge thickness - in body cavities.

The prior art thus does not disclose a system which allows permanent and complete removal of wound secretions from body cavities through a very small thickness and high flexibility, without requiring constant surgical intervention. In particular, there is no system whereby the entire abdominal cavity, including any organ spaces, can be aspirated without damaging the organs and their surface.
The object of the invention is to eliminate the disadvantages of the prior art. In particular, a device is to be specified which, on the one hand, permits permanent and complete removal of wound secretions from the entire body cavity, without damaging the organs, and, on the other hand, easy adaptation of the device, through a very small thickness, to the size of the body cavities present in the wound area ,
This object is solved by features of the claims. Advantageous embodiments of the invention will become apparent from the features of the remaining claims.

The removal of exudate and infectious material is crucial for the stabilization of patients with an open abdomen. The new drainage device is specifically designed to facilitate the removal of exudate from the deep space between the colon and abdominal wall and to reduce edema. The drainage device is constructed so that labyrinth strands lead to a center from which the exudate is aspirated by means of vacuum. The labyrinth consists of a soft, elastic flow mat, which forms a labyrinth, which does not collapse under vacuum and can suck up the exudate without any problems. The labyrinth strands are independent drains with regard to their suction function. They are arranged displaceably. Due to the very thin and flexible design of the respective drainage strand can be pushed into the existing body cavity. The entire labyrinth strands are coated with an antiadhesive, microperforated, atraumatic wound film and sealed in segments so that no damage to the organs can occur. When cutting the labyrinth strands in length, the cut edge is protected by a protective cover.
Under a body cavity is here understood a cavity of the human or animal body. Such cavities are usually lined with an epithelium or mesothelium. The device according to the invention can be used, for example, for removing wound secretions from the peritoneal cavity (Cavitas peritonealis), pleural cavity (Cavitas pleuralis) or joint cavities (Cavitas articularis).
The device according to the invention makes it possible for the first time to permanently aspirate exudate from a very narrow body or wound opening. In contrast to foam drains of the prior art, optimal protection of the organs is achieved and prevents collapse of the drain line. The labyrinth strands are very soft, very flexible and allow a long-term, continuous and organ-friendly suction of wound secretion from very narrow body gaps. The applied labyrinth is placed in the wound. The device according to the invention promotes a permanent and complete removal of wound exudate from body cavities. The blood circulation at the feeding points is improved, edema is reduced, the danger of a compartment syndrome is reduced and the purge and healing are stimulated. The number of surgical interventions can be significantly reduced. Moreover, healing of a wound in the body cavity is promoted by improved blood circulation. Due to the flexibility and softness of the labyrinth and the very small thickness, this can be introduced without complications in the body cavity. Due to the ongoing occlusion of the body cavity, using the labyrinth of the device of the invention, the risk of external germination by daily operations can be reduced. Due to the inventively provided labyrinth has the inventive Device a much greater Saugsicherheit than previously known devices. It can be the entire body cavity, for example, the entire abdominal cavity, which has a huge compared to other body cavities surface, be sucked using the device according to the invention. The labyrinth can remain in the body cavity for several days. Thus, the patient can get along without anesthesia in the meantime. The labyrinth is placed under anesthesia in a body cavity of a patient. A mobilization of the patient after this operation is readily possible; as well as an oral diet by the patient. The number of operations and thus the number of surgical scars are reduced to a minimum. The device according to the invention allows the continuous removal of toxins, bacteria, metabolic products, wound fluid, viruses, etc. from body cavities. All organizational spaces can be treated with the device. The device is not limited to the removal of wound secretions. Likewise, other body fluids can be removed from wound cavities. The device according to the invention can also be used to remove wound secretions from open wounds.
The invention will be explained in more detail below by means of embodiments with reference to the accompanying drawings.
