Abstract

Description

  • The present invention relates to panels.
  • Prefabricated floorboards with tongue and groove on the edges are quite common nowadays. These can be installed by average people because they are very easy to install. Such floors may for example be constructed of solid wood, fiberboard or particle plates. These are very often provided with a surface layer such as a lacquer layer or a kind of laminate. These planks are usually installed by gluing them over the tongue and groove joint. However, the most common types of grooves and springs have the disadvantage of forming gaps of varying width between the floorboards in cases where the craftsman was not thorough enough. In these spaces will easily collect dirt. In addition, moisture will penetrate into these spaces, which will result in expansion of the core in cases where it is made of wood, fiberboard or particle board, which is normally the case. The expansion will cause the surface layer to rise near the joint edges, radically reducing the life of the flooring, as the surface layer will then be subject to excessive wear. Different types of tensioners that force the floorboards together during installation can be used to avoid such gaps. However, this process is more or less complicated. It is therefore desirable to achieve a connection that is self-guiding and thereby automatically assumes the correct position. Such a connection would also be applicable to floors where no adhesive is to be used.
  • By the present invention, it has become possible to solve the above-mentioned problems, whereby a floor element has been achieved, which can be joined together, without having to be displaced along already mounted floor elements. This makes it possible to achieve denser connections. Accordingly, the invention relates to a connecting means for panels. The panels have a first edge and a second edge, the second edge being on the opposite side of the panel with respect to the second edge.
  • The invention is characterized in that the first edge is provided with a first mating edge and a lower cheek extending beyond the first mating edge. The lower cheek is also provided with a locking cheek, which locking cheek extends upward and thereby forms a locking surface. The first edge also has a locking recess provided with an upper locking surface.
  • The second edge is provided with a second mating edge configured to mate with the first mating edge and a lower groove configured to mate with the locking cheek. The lower groove is also provided with a locking surface which is adapted to cooperate with the locking surface. The second edge also has a locking cavity provided with a lower locking surface.
  • A locking bar is inserted in the locking recess or the locking cavity prior to assembly. The locking bar, the upper locking surface and the lower locking surface are configured so that the locking bar will block vertical movement between the first and second edges when the locking bar is in a locking position L.
  • An angle α between a horizontal plane and the lower locking surface is preferably in the range of 0-70 °, more preferably in the range of 5-50 °.
  • An angle β between a horizontal plane and the upper locking surface is preferably in the range of 0-70 °, more preferably in the range of 5-50 °.
  • The locking rod preferably has a circular cross-section. The locking bar may be made of various different materials, but it is preferred that it is made of a high density material such as steel. It is very advantageous if the selected material is rigid with respect to the cross-sectional profile.
  • The panels are suitably made of a core material provided with a decorative layer. The core material is suitably constructed of a fiberboard such as a medium density fiberboard (MDF) or a high density fiberboard (HDF). Of course, it is also possible to use other materials such as a particle board or even non-wood based materials.
  • According to a preferred embodiment of the invention, the floor elements are to be connected as shown in FIG WO 01/75247 is described. Here are the edges of the long sides provided with edges that allow connection of the connectors on the long sides, in that the floor panels are tilted to to connect them with already mounted floor panels, wherein the male connecting elements of the floor panel are angled downwards. The edge of the panel to be mounted may be mainly parallel to the edge of the already installed floor panel. The spring of the tilted floor panel is then inserted into the groove of the female connector of the already installed floor panel. The tilted floor panel is then pivoted downwardly, with its lower edge serving as a pivot axis, so that the lip eventually snaps into the lower groove where the decorative top layer of the floor panels are mainly parallel. The locking rod is preferably introduced into the locking cavity directly before the final pivoting moment. The locking bar will fall down to the locking position once the adjacent panels are aligned. A vibration will facilitate the correct positioning of the locking bar.
  • The invention will be further described in conjunction with the accompanying drawings, which illustrate different embodiments of a floor material, wherein

  • A locking rod 40 is placed in the locking cavity before assembly 36 brought in.   • The panels 1 according to the present invention have a core. The core usually consists of particles or fibers of wood, combined with a synthetic resin or adhesive. It is preferable to coat the surface near the joint in cases where the panel will be exposed to a high degree of moisture because the cellulose-based material is sensitive to moisture. This coating may suitably include a synthetic resin, wax or a kind of varnish. The upper decorative layer consists of a decorative paper impregnated with a melamine-formaldehyde resin. At least one so-called overlay web of α-cellulose impregnated with melamine-formaldehyde resin may possibly be placed on top of the decorative layer. The abrasion resistance can be improved by sprinkling at least one of the hard particle material webs of, for example, α-alumina, silicon carbide, or silica. The lower side may suitably be coated with a lacquer or a layer of paper and synthetic resin.
  • The panels of the present invention have the bonding agent described herein that can be used in conjunction with other bonding agents. It is inventively provided to use the connecting means described herein on the short side edges of a panel, while the two remaining edges are provided with a different type of connecting means, as for example in the WO 01/75247 is described where the long side edges are provided with a fitting that can be turned into engagement or angled.
  • Of course, it is also possible outside the invention to use the connecting means described here on all sides of a panel.
  • The invention is not limited to the illustrated embodiments, as they can be varied within the scope of the invention. For example, it is possible locking rods 40 to use with other than circular cross sections. The locking rod 40 is in this case advantageously provided with a spring or other means for a resilient action, which forces the rod in the correct position.

Claims (9)

  1.   5. Panel according to claim 4, wherein an angle β between a horizontal plane and the upper locking surface (Fig. 27 ) is in the range of 5-50 °.
  6. Panel according to one of claims 1 to 5, in which the locking rod ( 40 ) has a circular cross-section.
  7. Panel according to one of claims 1 to 6, in which the panels ( 1 ) from a core material ( 11 ) made with a decorative layer ( 12 ) is provided.
  8. Panel according to claim 7, in which the core material ( 11 ) is a fiberboard.
  9. Panel according to one of claims 1 to 8, in which the locking rod ( 40 ) is provided with a means for an elastic effect, the locking rod ( 40 ) forces into the correct position.
