The solution to the problem is obtained with the features of claim 1.
Die Unteransprüche geben vorteilhafte Ausgestaltungen des Sauerstoffsensors nach Anspruch 1 an.The subclaims give advantageous refinements of the oxygen sensor according to claim 1.
A major advantage of the invention lies in the fact that with help known materials by means of the measuring electrode modified according to the invention a significantly improved oxygen sensor is available is provided.
Here, the measuring electrode according to the invention consists of two planes Layers that are at least partially connected to each other, namely one on the one hand from a flat layer consisting of a mixture of a precious metal, in particular gold, platinum and / or ruthenium or from Alloys or mixtures of these precious metals with powdered PTFE (Polytetrafluoroethylene). On the other hand, there is the second flat layer of the Measuring electrode, which is connected to the first layer, from a gas permeable, perfluorinated polymer film, which preferably consists of one or several of the polymers PTFE (polytetrafluoroethylene), PFA (perfluoroalkoxy), FEP (Tetrafluoroethylene-hexafluoropropylene copolymer) or E-CTFE (ethylene Chlorotrifluoroethylene).
Typical dimensions of measuring electrodes according to the invention are at areal outer diameter of 2 to 50 millimeters, in particular 10 to 30 millimeters, as well as total thicknesses from 10 to 1000 micrometers, especially 100 to 300 microns. Typical layer thicknesses of the diffusions Membrane alone are 1 to 50 microns, especially 10 to 15 microns meter.
In general, the diffusion membrane of the measuring electrode is only partial on one side with a mixture of precious metal particles and powder PTFE (polytetrafluoroethylene) coated, so that a free edge, in particular an annular surface for fixing the diffusion membrane remains in the sensor. The diffusion membrane is out of the ambient atmosphere of the sensor sets and is on the side facing away from the surrounding atmosphere the above-described, preferably sintered mixture of noble metal particles and powdered PTFE (polytetrafluoroethylene) coated.
To explain the invention, an electrochemical oxygen sensor according to the invention is described below using the single figure. The figure shows the oxygen sensor schematically in section, namely a sensor housing 2 of an electrochemical sensor 1 for detecting oxygen in a gas mixture. The sensor housing 2 encloses an electrolyte space 3 for receiving an electrolyte 4 , in particular sulfuric acid, which is suitable for oxygen measurement.
In the electrolyte chamber 3 , a protective electrode 7 , an auxiliary electrode 8 and a reference electrode 9 are arranged behind a measuring electrode 6 , 66 according to the invention. The diffusion membrane 66 has a layer thickness of 1 to 50 micrometers and is optionally held in the sensor housing 2 by a porous support membrane 10 made of PTFE. The porous support membrane 10 is an independent component, but it can alternatively also be welded to the diffusion membrane 66 , which is, however, relatively complex. The rear of the sensor housing 2 is closed with a porous PTFE disk 11 , through which the oxygen is balanced with the surroundings.
The sensor housing 2 is also made of porous PTFE in order to improve the oxygen exchange with the surroundings and to ensure pressure compensation regardless of the position. The distance between the electrodes is set by means of thin fleeces 12 soaked with electrolyte. Another fleece 12 between the auxiliary electrode 8 and a porous glass body 13 receiving the reference electrode 9 ensures a position-independent electrolyte contact. The reference electrode 9 is arranged far away from the auxiliary electrode 8 . The measuring electrode 6 , 66 , the protective electrode 7 , the auxiliary electrode 8 and the reference electrode 9 are made of the same material. Gold or platinum and their alloys and doped, platinum-coated carbon are particularly suitable.
In an evaluation unit 14 , which is connected to the electrodes, the current generated by the oxygen to be detected is processed at the electrically con tacted part 6 of the measuring electrode 6 , 66 to form a measuring signal representing the oxygen concentration and is displayed in a display unit 15 . The evaluation unit 14 contains a potentiostat, not shown in the figure, with which the potential of the protective electrode 7 is set to that of the measuring electrode 6 , 66 .
The measuring electrode 6 , 66 according to the invention consists of a polymeric, per fluorinated diffusion membrane 66 , which is preferably partially coated on one side with a sintered mixture (part 6 of the measuring electrode 6 , 66 ) of noble metal particles and polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE), the diffusion membrane 66 being the Ambient atmosphere is exposed. The diffusion membrane 66 is preferably made of PTFE (polytetrafluoroethylene) or PFA (perfluoroalkoxy). It was found that the electrochemically active surface of the measuring electrode 6 , 66 according to the invention is two to three orders of magnitude larger than the purely geometric surface.
In an unillustrated alternative embodiment, an electrochemical sensor 1, a protective electrode ring is trode around the Meßelek 6, 66 arranged around to the radial diffusion of oxygen from the electrolyte space 3 to the measuring electrode 6, 66, to stop. In this case, the protective electrode ring is potentially connected to the protective electrode 7 via a line.
