Durch die selbstleuchtende Ge­ staltung des Kennzeichenschildes entfällt die separate Be­ leuchtung, so daß ein äußerst kompaktes und platzsparendes Kennzeichenschild geschaffen wird. Alternativ kann entweder die Schildfläche transparent und die Kennzeichnung entspre­ chend undurchsichtig gestaltet sein, oder aber die Schildflä­ che undurchsichtig und die Kennzeichnung transparent, wodurch direkt die entsprechende Kennzeichnung leuchtet. Diese Verbindung ist vorzugsweise als Steckverbindung gestaltet, so daß der Anschluß der Leuchtfo­ lie 6 an das fahrzeugseitige Bordnetz in einfacher Weise bei der Montage des Halterahmens S an dem Karosseriebereich 2 durch ein entsprechendes Zusammenstecken der Steckverbindung erfolgen kann.
