Description

The The present invention relates to a process for the preparation of Filaments of polymer blends based on polyester or polyamide by spinning at a withdrawal speed of ≥ 1500 m / min, wherein a second polymer is added to the polyester or polyamide.

The spinning of polymer blends is known from a number of publications, in particular:
EP 0 080 274 B describes fibers of PET, PA-6,6 or PP containing 0.1-10% by weight of another polymer which is present in the melt with an average particle size of 0.5-3 μ and deforms into fibrils in melt spinning becomes. The spinning speeds are 2000 to 6000 m / min, whereby a speed suppression (WUSS) of at least 20% by higher elongation at break or lower birefringence of the (PET) spun yarn and thus higher draw ratios and increased productivity is achieved. Preferred additive polymers are polyethylene glycol or PA-6,6 for PET and polyolefins for PA-6,6. The effect is strongly responsive to production parameters such as throughput, spinning temperature, blend type or extruder type. A transfer to production facilities of different capacity, equipment types or titer programs becomes difficult due to this sensitivity.

JP 56-91013 A discloses an unstretched polyester yarn, wherein by adding 0.5-10% by weight of a styrenic polymer improved productivity by increasing the elongation at break of the spun yarn at speeds between 850-8000 m / min, preferably ≥ 2500 m / min and correspondingly higher Draw ratios is achieved.

EP 0 631 638 B describes predominantly PET fibers containing 0.1-5% by weight of a 50-90% imidated polymethacrylic acid alkyl ester. The fibers obtained at speeds of 500-10,000 m / min and subsequently finally drawn have a higher initial modulus. The spinning at very high speeds (such as 8000 m / min) should be possible with conventional numbers of yarn breaks. Up to 8000 m / min partially oriented yarns are obtained, which are not stretched to final elongation and z. B. can be processed into textured yarns. In the examples of industrial yarns, the influence on the module can not easily be understood; In general, the strengths achieved are lower, which is a considerable disadvantage for this product. For textile applications, only drawn yarns are described. The associated undrawn yarns from 6,000 m / min spinning speed show elongation at break ≤ 65.3%, which due to the associated high crystallization (boiling shrinkage ≤ 6.5%) in the draw texturing should not be processable.

Figure 00030001
The purpose of spinning polymer blends into synthetic fibers is to obtain a higher elongation at break in the spun yarn at a certain spinning speed than without additional polymer modification. As a result, a higher draw ratio for the production of the final yarn should be possible, which should cause a higher productivity of the spinning unit. To EP 0 080 274 B is about one
Figure 00030001
to calculate if E / E 'the elongation at break is not modified / modified. A check of the formula shows that the effect becomes greatest at high strain increases (E'-E). Too high strains and thus reduced degree of orientation of the spun yarn are unsuitable for processing in fast draw texturing processes.

Another way of increasing productivity will be in EP 0 080 274 B described by the size WUSS ≥ 20%. At at least 20% higher spinning speed, the same elongation at break is obtained in the spun yarn as at the correspondingly lower speed with unmodified polymer. Running behavior in the spinning at higher speed and in the further processing and properties of the end yarns produced there are not disclosed.

The Increasing production aims at improving economic efficiency of the manufacturing process. This is due to production difficulties and more expensive high speed equipment to some extent again diminished. Essentially of influence the additional costs for the additive polymer so that it dependent on of the added amount even gives a zero point for profitability. Also plays the availability the additive polymers on the market an important role. Divorced for these reasons a variety of additives described in the literature for large-scale Implementation.

The producer or procurer must take into account the entire production chain and can the production increase of a partial step (eg the spinning mill) does not stop. The subsequent processes must not be impaired, despite increased spinning speed. Thus, the prior art for polymer blends very high elongation at break are also called for high spinning speeds, which characterize a strong reduction in the degree of orientation. Such filaments are not known to be storage stable and can not be applied and processed in friction texturing processes at high speeds. Elongation at break <70% given at high spinning speeds in turn indicate a considerable degree of crystallization, which reduces the achievable strength in the texturing process.

Of further amounts at large-scale Spinnanlagen the duration of the thermal load of the polymer mixture at least 5 minutes at a temperature about 30 to 35 ° C higher than the melting temperature of the matrix polymer, PET, PEN or PA-6,6, ie about 290 ° C to 300 ° C. So proven some known additive polymers on trial scale Dwell times under 5 minutes as best suited, but showed in large-scale scale a decreasing with increasing residence time efficacy.

The present invention is a process for the preparation of filaments of polymer blends based on polyester or Polyamide by spinning at a withdrawal speed ≥ 1500 m / min show, in which the above-mentioned disadvantages or not occur only to a lesser extent. In particular, that should the polyester or polyamide additive polymer be cheap, at temperatures up to about 300 ° C over at least Thermally stable for 10 minutes, during spinning to increase production across from unmodified matrix polymer to lead and allow the spun yarn to be processed at high speed. The filaments should also be well and evenly dyeable.

The solution of this object is achieved according to the invention by a method according to the details of the claims. This process is characterized in that a second amorphous polymer in an amount of 0.05 to 5 wt .-% is added to the polyester or polyamide, wherein the second polymer is a copolymer which is composed of at least two of the following monomer units: From 15 to 95% by weight of A, where A = styrene or methyl-substituted styrene, 2 to 50% by weight B, where B = imidized maleic anhydride, 0 to 30 wt.% C, where C = maleic anhydride or maleic acid (Sum equal to 100 wt .-%), and wherein the additive polymer and matrix polymer have approximately the same melt viscosity.

The additive polymer (second polymer) must be amorphous, substantially insoluble in the matrix polymer and thus substantially incompatible, and allow the formation of two phases that can be distinguished microscopically. Also, it must have a melt viscosity that is of the same order of magnitude as the viscosity of the matrix polymer measured under the same shear conditions. If the melt viscosity varies greatly, the spinnability of the polymer mixture is impaired. Good results are achieved when the viscosity of the additive polymer after a measurement time of 240 sec at 290 ° C and a shear rate of 15 sec -1 0.1 to 3.0 times, preferably 0.2 to 2.0 times the viscosity of the matrix polymer.

In contrast to the prior art, the additive polymer according to the invention contains no acrylic acid derivatives, such as methyl methacrylate, which has a positive effect on the thermal resistance. As a measure of the thermal stability of the additive polymer, the time course of its viscosity at the typical processing temperature of 290 ° C can be used. The additive polymer should be regarded as sufficiently stable if the relative reduction in its viscosity measured as indicated below is less than 50%, preferably less than 40%. For this purpose, the additive granules are dried at a temperature of 90 ° C for 16 hours in a stream of nitrogen. Subsequently, the granules are placed in a cone-plate rheometer, type UM100, Physica Meßtechnik GmbH, Stuttgart / DE, with aeration with nitrogen on the temperature-controlled measuring plate. The measuring cone (MK210) is positioned on the measuring plate after the sample has melted, ie after approx. 30 seconds. The measurement is started after a further heating-up period of 60 seconds (measuring time = 0 seconds). The measuring temperature is 290 ° C. The amount of sample is chosen so that the rheometer gap is completely filled. The measurement is carried out in oscillation with the frequency 2.4 Hz (corresponding to a shear rate of 15 sec -1 ) adapted for each sample amplitude and determines the amount of complex viscosity as a function of the measurement time.

Preferably, the additive polymer contains 50 to 90 wt .-% A, 5 to 30 wt .-% B and 1 to 20 wt .-% C and particularly preferably 70 to 85 wt .-% of styrene units, 15 to 25 wt .-% of imidized maleic anhydride units and 1 to 10 wt .-% maleic anhydride units (sum equal to 100%). For many applications, addition levels of at most 3.0% by weight suffice, which is a significant cost advantage.

The high glass transition temperature (T G ) of more than 100 ° C., usually more than 130 ° C., of the additive polymers according to the invention leads to reduced adhesion of the fibers during further processing, for example during texturing. The imide group of the additive polymer contributes to the improvement of dyeability.

For example, these additive polymers are characterized by complete or Preferably, partial reaction of a styrene-maleic anhydride copolymer in the Melting phase with ammonia or a primary alkyl or arylamine, for example Aniline (Encyclopedia of Polymer Science and Engineering Vol. 16 [1989], Wiley-Verlag, page 78). Both the invention, imidized Copolymers as well as their non-imidized starting copolymers are available in stores, for example, DSM N.V., Herleen / NL.

When fiber-forming matrix polymers include polyesters such as polyethylene terephthalate (PET), polypropylene terephthalate, polybutylene terephthalate, polyethylene naphthalate or polyamides such as PA-6 or PA-6,6 in question. Preferred are the Homopolymers. But there are also copolymers with up to about 15 Mol .-% comonomer content in question. In the case of PET can the Z. B. diethylene glycol, 1,4-cyclohexanedimethanol, polyethylene glycol, isophthalic and / or adipic acid be. additionally can the polymers additives, such as catalysts, stabilizers, optical Brightener and matting agents included. PET can also be a small proportion Contain on branching components, ie z. B. polyfunctional acids, like trimellitic acid, pyromellitic acid or tri- or tetravalent alcohols, such as trimethylolpropane, pentaerythritol, Dipentaerythritol, glycerol or corresponding hydroxy acids.

The Mixing of the additive polymer (second polymer) with the matrix polymer is carried out by Add as a solid to the matrix polymer chips in the extruder inlet with chip mixer or gravimetric dosing or alternatively by melting the additive polymer, metering by gear pump and feeding into the melt stream of the matrix polymer. Then done the production of a homogeneous distribution by mixing in the extruder and / or by means of static or dynamic mixers in itself known way.

Also important is the structure of the spinning package, which is equipped with filter devices and / or loose filter media (eg steel sand) of defined grain size. To set a sufficient shear of the additive, a specific nozzle pressure was set. The shear effect in the nozzle package was evaluated by once spinning a melt jet without a built-in nozzle package and with a built-in nozzle package, and sampling the emergent barrel under otherwise identical pretreatment parameters and measuring and counting the additive particles by electron microscopy. The incompatibility of the two polymers causes the additive polymer to form globular particles (without shear) in the matrix polymer. Best conditions were obtained when the average particle size (arithmetic mean) d 50 ≤ 400 nm, and the proportion of particles> 1000 nm in a sample cross-section was less than 1%. Due to the spinning delay, the polymer beads are sheared in the longitudinal direction so that fibrils form. We believe that in the interface between the matrix polymer and the second polymer, the deformation of the matrix occurs under conditions that result in a reduction in orientation and suppression of spin-induced crystallization and that each polymer behaves specifically. It makes sense to evaluate the effect on the spun yarn formation and the processing behavior.

The Production of synthetic filaments by rapid spinning with Withdrawal speeds ≥ 1500 m / min, preferably 2500 to about 8000 m / min, is done using known spinning devices.

The molten polymer mixture is after shearing and filtration treatment in the nozzle package through the holes of the nozzle plate pressed. In the subsequent cooling zone become the melt threads by means of cooling air cooled below its softening temperature, so that sticking or upsetting is avoided at the following Fadenleitorgan. The training of cooling zone is not critical if a homogeneous, the filament bundle penetrates evenly Air flow ensured is. So can directly below the nozzle plate a Luftruhezone to delay the cooling be provided. The cooling air can be supplied by transverse or radial blowing from an air conditioning system or by means of a cooling tube be taken from the environment by self-priming.

After cooling, the filaments are bundled and treated with spin oil. These are oilers used stones, where the spinning oil is fed as an emulsion of metering pumps. The thus prepared thread advantageously passes through a Entanglingeinrichtung (Verschlingeinrichtung) to improve the thread closing. Also, handling and security organs may be appropriate before the thread passes to the winding unit and is wound there on cylindrical bobbin to packages. The peripheral speed of the thread package is automatically controlled and is equal to the winding speed. The withdrawal speed of the thread can be due to its traversing movement by 0.2-2.5% higher than that of the winding speed.

Weitere Galetten können zum Verstrecken oder Relaxieren angewendet werden.optional can after preparation or before the winding driven godets are applied. The peripheral speed of the first godet system is called the take-off speed designated. Other godets can be used for stretching or relaxing.

The Processing of the spun yarn in the draw or stretch texturing process at high Speeds is carried out as follows: The stretching can take one or two stages. The withdrawal speed is ≥ 1,500 m / min, the threads at least one drawing zone formed by driven godets is passed through, and then stretched after heat setting Plain yarn with velocities ≥ 4000 be wound up m / min. Two-stage, the spun yarn is first with ≥ 1500 m / min reeled up, then submitted to the stretching machine and there at speeds of at least 800 m / min, preferably ≥ 1000 m / min stretched.

Das Strecktexturieren erfolgt je nach Filamenttitertyp, wobei für Normal-Titer-Filamente ≥ 2 dtex Geschwindigkeiten ≥ 750 m/min, bevorzugt ≥ 900 m/min, angewendet werden.spin thread as a roving for draw texturing - usually to be called POY with take-off speeds ≥ 2500 m / min, preferably ≥ 3600 m / min produced. Preferably, as much additive polymer is added, that the elongation at break the PET filaments at least 85% and a maximum of 145%. The stretch texturing is done depending on the type of filament titre, wherein for normal-titre filaments ≥ 2 dtex velocities ≥ 750 m / min, preferably ≥ 900 m / min.

Allein durch hohen Spinnverzug hergestellte vollverstreckte Glattgarne werden mit Geschwindigkeiten ≥ 6000 m/min abgezogen und aufgespult (HOY).Alone Fully drawn smooth yarns produced by high spinning distortion are at speeds ≥ 6000 m / min withdrawn and wound up (HOY).

It has now been found that the Length of Warp zone a quantitative measure of the physical thread structure is, which in turn affects the processing of the filaments. These Characteristic is not inherent contained in conventional parameters, but represents an independent Size dar. The length the draft zone becomes untreated polymer by the yarn withdrawal speed varied. Typical values for Rovings at conventional take-off speeds of at least 2500 m / min are at lengths of about 300 mm, preferably for POY at ≥ 250 mm to ≤ 700 mm, and for finished stretched filaments at ≤ 200 mm, preferably ≤ 100 mm.

It was found that one increase the take-off speed compared to conventional processes during spinning of polymer blends with adjusted added amount of the additive polymer, in contrast to the spinning of unmodified matrix polymers, filaments with good quality features in terms of processing at high speeds too stretched or draw-textured filaments.

With the take-off speed varied, the addition amount of the additive polymer is adjusted so that the length value of the draft zone corresponds to that of the unmodified matrix polymer. It has been found that for rovings for draw-texturing, the added amount M of the second polymer for take-off speeds υ of 2500 to about 8000 m / min is at most the size

must be in order to achieve optimal results.

The fracture surfaces are examined by scanning electron microscopy and subsequent image analysis. From each sample, 3 fractions are evaluated with 4 images each. Due to the low contrast between matrix and additive, each additive particle is individually marked in the image analysis. The evaluation is based on an elliptical expression (sphere-like), where length, width, and calculated from it, the average diameter are evaluated.

In At a distance of 1200 mm below the spinneret were the cooled threads by means of an oiler pen bundled and with a spinel-water emulsion provided, wherein the applied to the thread preparation amount about 0.4%.

While the yarn No. 3 according to the state the technology works well when increasing the Texturing speed to 1000 m / min (Yarn No. 1) Problems in Form of fractures and thread tension defects. When increasing the spinning speed to 5000 m / min (yarn No. 2) even at conventional processing speed of 800 m / min thread breaks and thread tension defects with increased frequency, and the applicable draw ratio must be strong be reduced. The reason lies in the increased degree of crystallization of the POY spinning thread and is characterized by a correspondingly low elongation at break during spinning delay.

The spinning system according to Example 1 was supplemented by a metering device consisting of a melt-down extruder and a gear metering pump. With this dosing system, the additive poly melted (granules) and metered as a melt in a concentration of 1.2 wt .-% in the PET melt stream and mixed by means of the static mixer. The polymer mixture was spun at different temperatures under otherwise identical spinning conditions. The additive was a copolymer of 78 wt .-% of styrene and 22 wt .-% maleic anhydride (unididized) with a glass transition temperature T G of 147 ° C and a melt viscosity (after 240 sec, 290 ° C, 15 sec -1 ) of 100 Pa.sec. The spinning take-off speed was set constant at 5000 m / min. The polymer throughput was 63 g / min, the average residence time in the product line 1.5 min. Table 3 contains the filament characteristics.

Increasing the spinning temperature from 282 ° C to 286 ° C showed a reduction in the elongation at break, ie a reduction in the effectiveness of the additive. With a further increase of the spinning temperature to 296 ° C no stable spinning behavior could be achieved. The reason lies in the comparatively poor thermal stability of this additive, whose viscosity, measured at the outset, as a function of the measuring time in 1 is shown.

In the spinning system of Example 2 and under the same spinning conditions, the spinning temperature was varied at an additive concentration of 1.2 wt .-% and a mean residence time of the polymer mixture in the product line of about 1.5 min (Experiment Nos. 6 to 8 ). The Characteristics of the filaments are summarized in Table 4. The elongation at break of the spun yarn, i. the effectiveness of the additive was throughout the range examined the spinning temperature of 282-296 ° C almost consistently high.

The Running behavior and textile characteristics were positive in both cases to rate. However, Run 8 gave an increased texturing tension and a significantly reduced draw ratio. Well adapted was the Additive amount to the draw texturing rate of Run # 10. The staining behavior this yarn was opposite the yarns from Comparative Experiments No. 1 to No. 3 drastically improved.

Compared to Example 3, a higher elongation at break in the filament is achieved with this additive polymer at the same concentration and the same spinning temperature. The effectiveness of this additive polymer is thus even better than that of the additive polymer of Example 3. The high effectiveness of the additive polymer is given throughout the temperature range investigated. There is even observed an increase in elongation at break with increasing temperature. Compared to Comparative Example 2, the effectiveness of the additive is significantly improved at elevated thermal stress. The reason for this is the better thermal stability of the additive (see 1 ). The use of this additive on an industrial scale is thus outstandingly possible.

Die maximale Teilchengröße betrug 970 nm. 5 Figure 12 shows the distribution of the size of the additive particles in the polyester matrix in Run # 13 after exiting the nozzle bore. As d 50 , a mean diameter of 190 nm was determined. The scatter was CV = 33%. The maximum particle size was 970 nm.

Beispiel 5 (Vergleich):Example 5 (comparison):

In the spinning system of Example 4, the spinning temperature was varied under the same spinning conditions at a constant additive concentration of 0.72 wt .-%. The additive was a copolymer of 78% by weight of styrene, 3% by weight of maleic anhydride and 19% by weight of ammonia-imidized maleic anhydride. Compared to the additive from Example 4, the molecular weight, with otherwise largely identical chemical structure of about 110 000 g / mol increased to about 160 000 g / mol. The glass transition temperature T G is 186 ° C and the melt viscosity (after 240 sec, 290 ° C, 15 sec -1 ) 1200 Pa · sec. The experimental parameters are summarized in Table 7.

Tabelle 7: Vergleichsversuch Nr.: 15 16 Additivkonzentration % 0,72 0,72 Verweilzeit min 7,5 7,5 Abzugsgeschwindigkeit m/min 5000 5000 Spinntemperatur °C 286 296 Spinnbarkeit For neither of the two spinning temperatures (286 ° C and 296 ° C) could a stable spinning behavior be achieved. The reason for the completely different spinning behavior is the changed molecular weight, corresponding to a changed viscosity of the additive polymer with unchanged viscosity of the matrix polymer. This leads to an altered mixing and deformation behavior of the additive polymer in the PET matrix. Table 7: Comparative experiment no .: 15 16 additive concentration % 0.72 0.72 dwell min 7.5 7.5 off speed m / min 5000 5000 spinning temperature ° C 286 296 spinnability - -
