Abstract

An item of domestic electrical equipment with a time-of-day display has a clock unit which operates as a slave to a separate radio receiver tuned to a time signal from a national transmitter and powered by its own battery or solar collector. A two-way communications interface between the clock display and its receiver is provided by infra-red, ultrasonic, HF or other suitable link. In operation the two-way system enables the receiver to be activated at specified intervals or merely as required when its response uses the link in the reverse direction to (a) energise the display and (b) set the displayed time to the broadcast transmitter data.
