Practical tests have shown that the increase in the discharge energy of a electrical oscillation system by extending the spark gap practically fairly is limited in time. As is well known, an inconvenience occurs at a certain spark length one that the increase in voltage is no longer proportional to the increase the spark length advances, but more slowly than this. Have measurements shown that the ohmic effect introduced into the oscillation system by the spark gap Resistance, on the other hand, assuming the same discharge current strength, is approximately proportional continues to grow with the spark gap. When a certain critical value is exceeded Spark length has accordingly the attenuation by ohmic resistance around one greater amount than the energy increased by increasing the voltage. By Therefore, if the spark gap is enlarged, the discharge energy cannot be unlimited Increase dimensions.
In order to avoid this inconvenience, attempts have been made repeatedly, the simple one To resolve a spark gap in ^ a multiple. Experiments have shown, however, that at a breakdown into η, for example, identical individual spark gaps connected in series to desired success either only partially or not at all.
The reason for this has been determined and recognized by us through detailed tests been. It is to be found in the fact that with this simple decomposition every single spark gap does not absorb the η-th part of the voltage.
A circuit way of achieving a proper distribution of the voltage across each the series spark gaps for the purpose of an electrical oscillation system. feedable The subject of the present is to be able to increase the amount of energy at will Invention.
According to the same, self-inductors or small capacitors are put in parallel with each of the individual spark gaps switched. These secondary locks are to be dimensioned in such a way that that the charging voltage of each individual spark gap is proportionate to its spark length. Shall the spark lengths all be the same, for example, each of the η shunts must have the w-th part of the charging voltage take up.
Bei Anwendung einer derartigen Funkenstrecke bildet demnach die Funkenlänge von 2,5 mm die Grenze, über welche hinaus zu arbeiten mit bedeutender Energievergeudung verbundenFIG. 1 shows a curve in which the spark lengths of a spark gap of a certain construction are plotted in millimeters as the abscissa and the associated voltage values as the ordinates. The curve shows a clear kink at point α. It can be seen that with this curve, spark lengths greater than about 2.5 mm, the voltage no longer increases proportionally, but rather grows considerably more slowly than the spark length. When using such a spark gap, the spark length of 2.5 mm forms the limit beyond which working is associated with significant waste of energy
ist. Es ist also hier 2,5 mm die zulässige größte Funkenlänge für jede einzelne der Serienf unkenstrecken.is. So here it is 2.5 mm the maximum permissible spark length for each of the Serial spark routes.
The use of such spark gaps is permissible for both open and closed vibration systems. As an embodiment of the invention, FIG. 2 shows a circuit for a closed oscillation circuit. It denotes C the capacity of this circuit, L an induction coil, to which, for example, air conductors and earth bezw for purposes of wireless telegraphy. an electrical counterweight can be connected directly - as indicated by dotted lines - or connected with the help of a transformer. F 1 F 2 F 3 are three series-connected spark gaps. The number of these can of course be increased, i and Z 1 denote the charging lines coming from the inductor. In order to cause each of the here equal to the selected radio links receives the third part of the charging voltage is for each spark gap, a to C very small capacitor C 1 c 2 c 3 is either connected directly in parallel or by a high ohmic resistor or an inductor W 0 W 1 W 2 W 3 through. The interposition of the resistors or induction coils is intended to prevent the capacitors from influencing the period of the rapid discharge frequency of the main resonant circuit. If C 1 c 2 c 3 are chosen to be very small, there is no risk of influencing the main oscillation even if the interposition of resistors or coils is omitted. The electrical energy stored in the entire capacitors is so small, corresponding to the small capacitance thereof, that it can be completely neglected compared to that stored in C. The voltage fed from the inductor to the two outermost spark balls is, if C 1 C 2 C 3 are equal, evenly distributed over the three spark gaps. The ohmic resistors or induction coils let the slow charging frequency of the inductor through without significant losses.
This way, the practical limitation of the discharge voltage described in the introduction no longer applies to the entire system as before, but only to each of the three individual spark gaps connected in series. Accordingly, it can be increased almost indefinitely by increasing the number of these. In this example the maximum discharge voltage has been impaired for the entire system.
For the same purpose and in the same circuit, as mentioned at the beginning, also use self-induction coils of the same size as one another, for example, which are connected in parallel to the individual spark gaps and in series among themselves. However, this means is less practical and at the same time requires the fulfillment of several conditions, which are caused by the resonance of the charging inductor on the excitation capacity are prescribed.
Breaking down into series spark gaps using the method described is for everyone Types of vibration systems allowed. So, for example, all so-called Hertzian systems, be it that one half is grounded or through an elec- ^ Irish counterweight is shown.
For example, Figure 3 illustrates the application of the invention to the simple one Marconigeber, in which the at a capacity or the air conductor connected to the earth forms the excitation system at the same time.
