KLASSE 48: Metallbearbeitung, chemische.CLASS 48: Metalworking, chemical.
Patterned metal rolls or plates have heretofore been obtained in such a way that the Pattern either hand-engraved or, if they were of regular shape, so z. B. of ribs, rhombuses, straight figures or the like. Consisted, means the planing or milling machine have been incorporated. For off irregular lines The existing pattern was then, in addition to the manual work, the so-called. Molettir process known, which consisted in engraving the pattern in an auxiliary roller and then, after the latter had hardened, with the help of very powerful special machines, into the steel roller to be provided with the pattern or plate was pressed in. However, this is an extremely high pressure required because the material of the steel roller or plate to be patterned is pressed in must be strongly compressed at the deepest points of the pattern. These difficulties naturally make themselves felt to an even greater extent as soon as the samples should be reasonably deep, as z. B. in those for the production of patterned glass plates used rollers is absolutely necessary.
The present invention is now a method in which the above difficulties are completely overcome and by virtue of which steel rollers and plates are used with the help of ordinary lathes or planing machines with any pattern can provide. With reference to FIGS of the accompanying drawing, proceed as follows: '
The desired pattern is engraved in a small auxiliary roller α (Fig. 1) made of steel, this is then hardened and clamped in the support of an ordinary lathe or planing machine so that it rests firmly on the surface of the steel roller or steel plate b to be engraved. The latter is provided with an acid-resistant, sticky protective layer c on its surface. As soon as the steel roller b rotated BEZW. If the steel plate in its place is moved back and forth, the auxiliary roller a starts rotating automatically and presses the pattern into the protective layer c so deep that the steel surface emerges brightly at certain points d, while the other places remain covered by the protective layer . The steel roller to be patterned respectively. The plate is then treated with nitric acid or a similar caustic agent, which attacks the bare areas d , removes the excess material and causes chemical changes which make the steel softer and, in some respects, more spongy.
Indem hierauf das Aetzen der zu musternden Walze das Auswaschen der Säure und hierauf das Einpressen desAfter the acid has then been washed out again, the pressing of the pattern with the auxiliary roller α into the etched areas is repeated (Fig. 2), the parts of the pattern protruding on the roller α already deeper into the areas d der which have become softened by the etching Penetrate steel roller b . By then etching the roller to be patterned, washing out the acid and then pressing in the

If the pattern is repeated as often as desired by means of the auxiliary roller α in the specified order, the desired depth of the pattern, as illustrated in FIGS. 3 and 4, can be gradually achieved.
The more often the work is repeated when using mildly corrosive agents, the more so The pattern is cleaner, considering its re-entrant limits. at , too strong caustic, the latter would be attacked too strongly and thereby that Patterns become unusable. From this it can be seen that in the method described neither the pure etching nor the pure pressing of the pattern into the area to be patterned is applicable, the success of the new process is rather merely by combining both methods with each other.
