Description
The invention relates to a seal for a cooking appliance, which serves the sealing between the cooking chamber and the oven door closing the cooking chamber, wherein the seal comprises a sealing element made of a fiberglass material and is attached either to the cooking chamber surrounding the housing flange or to the appliance door.
In the seals currently used in practice from a glass fiber fabric, such as glass fiber or a fiberglass mesh, grease and other stains originating from the oven can settle in the normal cooking operation of the glass fiber seal. In a subsequent pyrolysis operation, these soiling can burn into the sealing material, in particular if the temperature required for the pyrolysis process has not yet been reached during the heating process, but certain impurities already tend to burn into the sealing material. This has the disadvantage of the result that the seal hardens in the long term and the sealing effect thereby inevitably deteriorates.

The hitherto available and combined in a form of a glass fiber and a silicone material seals, in any case not reach the necessary for the pyrolysis temperature and aging resistance.
With the cooking appliances conventionally in use and the cooking utensils used to a large extent, it has long been known to use various types of non-stick coatings. In cooking and baking equipment and cooking pots and frying pans, for example, the so-called PTFE coating (Teflon) or a similar type of silicone coating has found a widespread application in practice. This type of coating has in the meantime proven itself in the abovementioned fields of application and is distinguished by advantageous non-stick properties and, overall, also by a simplified cleaning ability.
The invention thus provides the problem of providing a glass fiber seal in a new embodiment, in particular the burning of grease and oil residues is prevented and has a good cleaning ability to remove stains.
According to the invention, this problem is solved by a seal having the features of
The seal according to the invention is particularly suitable for cooking appliances with pyrolytic self-cleaning. Regardless, it can also be used in all cooking appliances such as ovens, stoves, grills, or microwave ovens if similar high operating temperatures can occur during operation of these appliances.
With the present invention, the new approach is taken for the first time to provide the surface of a highly heat-resistant and sealing elastic glass fiber seal with a non-stick coating. That this has not yet been taken into consideration may be due to the fact that in cooking appliances the non-stick coatings known from the prior art were intended primarily for hard, flat and relatively large-area carrier materials. In contrast, the glass fiber seals used in practice must have a certain elastic body structure because of their intended main function as a sealing element. Furthermore, the oval or round shape of the seal body from the outset not necessarily for it to apply an additional coating. This may be the reason that the long-known and proven in practice non-stick coatings have so far found no use in a specially suitable for pyrolysis glass fiber seal.
The advantages achievable with the invention consist in particular in that the surface of a seal consisting of a glass fiber material can be provided with a coating which permanently retains its non-stick effect even after prolonged use, so that stains containing grease or oil can not even burn in and thus long term no hardening of the glass fiber seal can occur. Even if residues can settle on the gasket, they can not penetrate into the hard surface of the non-stick coating, so they can be easily removed by manual cleaning. The inventively provided coating also has the property that it is smooth and scratch-resistant, which also has a favorable effect on the cleaning ability.
The non-stick coating can be provided in an advantageous manner on the region of the sealing element, which rests on top of the housing part of the housing flange or on the appliance door after attachment. As a result, the seal can always be kept clean, so that any dirt can not visually disturb.
In another embodiment, however, the non-stick coating can also be partially provided on the region of the sealing element which, in the fastening state of the sealing element, faces the opening of the cooking chamber. It is precisely this area is naturally exposed primarily to the risk that, for example, grease or oil splashes from the cooking chamber can get to these parts of the seal.
An essential embodiment of the invention relates to the physical structure of the seal. In a preferred embodiment, it is provided that the seal is formed by a tubular sealing element, which consists in a known manner of intertwined glass fiber strands, which in turn are combined from individual glass fiber threads into a bundled strand.
In this embodiment, the non-stick coating can already be applied in the manufacturing process on the intermediates, on the individual glass fiber threads or on the glass fiber strands, before they are intertwined into a glass fiber braid. Thus, the glass fiber seal would automatically have non-stick properties as the final product. Depending on the specific embodiment, manufacturing technology advantages could result from such a procedure, since the application of the coating on the sub-elements in a pre-process of sealing production can be made simpler than the production of the non-stick coating on the finished seal.
Processually, the application of the organic substance to the surface of the seal or on parts thereof by spraying, Steaming, dipping or mechanical coating before the applied substance is then subjected to a thermal treatment process. As a result, a process is automatically started, whereby this substance is then partially decomposed or partially evaporated, and wherein another part of the organic substance with its silicone-like networks with molecular layers of the glass fiber material of the sealing element molecularly connects, so that thereby the new surface with the desired non-stick properties arises.

The seal is heated slowly after the application of the organic substance, wherein initially, if necessary, the solvent is evaporated. Then it is heated to a temperature at which the molecules of the substance thermally decompose and fragments of the substance can connect to the glass surface.
