  • Electrical machines that are used in motor vehicles as generators and / or drive motors are often exposed to the application of water spray, which is why particularly moisture-sensitive areas of electrical machines must be protected against the ingress of water or moisture. A particularly endangered area is the control unit of an electrical machine, which is why the control unit should be housed as possible in a completely sealed housing.
  • Such protected against splashing water and other moisture penetrating and correspondingly sealed housing of a control unit needs to equalize pressure between ambient air and the housing interior a pressure compensation element, which on the one hand is permeable to air and on the other hand prevents the ingress of spray or moisture into the housing interior. Such a pressure compensation element should also have a certain robustness in an electric machine used in a motor vehicle, so that damage to the pressure compensation element by high-pressure water or other mechanical influences can be excluded as reliably as possible.
  • Disclosure of the invention
  • The electric machine according to the invention with the features of claim 1 has the advantage that as a pressure compensation element, an element can be used, which itself has a very simple structure and no special stability criteria must meet. The pressure compensation element is covered by a protective device which is attached to the housing of the control unit, so that thus the required mechanical protection against damage to the pressure compensation element is ensured. The pressure compensation element itself can be designed and constructed so that it optimally fulfills the pressure compensation function, since the required mechanical stability and protection against external damage are taken over by the protective device mentioned. This makes it possible to use inexpensive conventional pressure compensation elements for pressure equalization on the housing of a control unit of an electric machine.
  • The pressure compensation element is preferably located on the housing cover of the controller in a recess, whereby a space-saving attachment of the pressure compensation element with associated protection device is possible.
  • It is particularly advantageous to arrange water drainage channels on the housing cover adjacent to the pressure compensation element, thereby ensuring that water accumulating in the region of the pressure compensation element is purposefully discharged. The water drainage channels can be designed in their orientation and surface finish so that a quick drainage of water is ensured. Particularly smooth surfaces or water-repellent surfaces are particularly advantageous in the area of the water drainage channels. This ensures that the pressure compensation function of the pressure compensation element is not affected as much as possible by moisture or water.
  • In the preferred embodiment, five water drainage channels are provided, which are aligned in a star shape of the pressure compensation element at preferably equal angular intervals. This ensures that with a vertical orientation of the housing cover from at least two gutters water is discharged from the region of the pressure compensation element down.   • The protective device, which protects the pressure compensation element from mechanical loading and in particular from damage, is preferably attached to a cover cover unit which engages over the housing cover. This cover unit can both secure the housing cover on the electric machine and protect against damage to critical areas as well as covering the housing cover mounted pressure compensation element protectively. The housing cover and the cover unit can be designed as plastic parts, wherein the cover unit can be made of a particularly durable plastic material. This gives a high mechanical stability for the cover and a correspondingly high mechanical protection for the pressure compensation element.

  • The edge of the protection device may have recesses that serve as water drainage openings.
