The invention relates to a method for regenerating membrane filters or membrane filter modules in separation processes for the removal of pollutants from gases and waters, wherein the pollutants are concentrated on a membrane filter surface. For the oxidative removal of pollutants from the membrane filter surfaces they are completely irradiated with decreasing the filtration rate with UV light. The invention also relates to a device for removing pollutants from membrane filter modules, preferably for on-site regeneration, which in addition to membrane filters or module (s) has a UV unit. The membrane filters / modules preferably have a tube or plate geometry. On-site regeneration is ensured by the UV-oxidative unit.
The removal of pollutants from contaminated waters or gases using membrane filter modules is known, wherein the membrane filter / modules are flowed through by contaminated gases or waters pollutants. In this process, the pollutants deposit as a layer on the porous membranes. That is, the pollutants are adsorbed or concentrated at the membrane surface. From a certain loading the pollutant deposits have a performance-reducing effect on the membrane filter module, d. H. the filtration rate of the membrane filter sinks due to the increased deposits and goes back to zero, so that the filtration process comes to a standstill.
A major disadvantage of the hitherto market-available methods for regeneration is that a regeneration of no longer permeable membrane filters during an active production process is not possible.
The object of the invention is therefore to provide a method for regenerating membrane filters in separation process, which allows the regeneration of partially or completely impermeable membrane filters uncomplicated, inexpensive and effective on site, so that the membrane filter system adsorbs pollutants from fluids or gases on the one hand and on the other hand Mineralized the membrane surface pollutants, so as to be able to realize a continuous operation.
According to the invention the object is achieved by a method and a membrane filter system, in particular for the on-site regeneration of membrane filter modules, wherein UV radiation units are integrated.
Membrane filters are microporous membranes consisting of a solid matrix with defined pores with defined diameters. They are made from a variety of materials, including ceramics, metals, metal oxides and polymers. With regard to their structure, they can be constructed symmetrically (the pore diameter does not vary across the membrane cross-section) or asymmetrically (the pore diameter increases from one side of the membrane to the other by a factor of 10-1000). The membrane filtration is carried out exclusively by a pressure gradient, wherein the filter effect is determined by the average pore diameter. The membrane filtration is a sieve filtration, that is, the deposition of pollutants takes place predominantly on the membrane surface. The technical membrane arrangement is done in so-called modules, wherein plate, winding, tube, capillary and hollow fiber modules can be used.
In the method according to the invention preferably tube and plate modules are used. In tubular modules, the tubular membrane in tube form lies on the inside of pressure-resistant tubes, which have defined diameters. A solution to be cleaned is pumped through the interior of the tube, the filtrate penetrates the membrane and is drawn off into the outside. The pressure loss in a pipe module is very low. Essential elements in plate module constructions are the flat membrane, the membrane support plate and the process fluid side flow guide plates (spacers). These are suitably juxtaposed or stacked together and flows through them. The flow path z. B. in a round plate filter characterized in that the filtrate is discharged separately from each of two membranes to the outside.
In the process according to the invention, when the separation efficiency drops, preferably at a decrease below 80%, a UV unit is put into operation and the membrane filters are completely irradiated with UV light until the pollutants have been mineralized by UV-oxidative. According to the invention, UV emitters are used which ensure UV irradiation with a broad spectrum, preferably the irradiation takes place with a radiation power of 20 to 200 W / cm at wavelengths of 240 to 290 nm. At a bandwidth of 240 to 290 nm are killed in gases or water microorganisms and oxidized pollutants and particles.
Thus, the membrane is completely regenerated and can be used immediately, so that on site a continuous cleaning process is guaranteed. Even during the phase of concentration possibly occurring biofilms on the membrane can be removed in the regeneration phase. The controlled UV unit is arranged so that the entire polluted surface of the membrane filter module is completely irradiated.
The filtration rate or the loading of the membrane is preferably constantly controlled and determined via the parameters pressure loss at the membrane, layer thickness of the charge on the membrane and / or turbidity of the waters or gases.
The pressure loss can z. B. by a connected differential pressure measuring technique, the thickness of the deposits z. B. by means of integrated sensors for coating thickness measurement and the turbidity z. B. be determined by integrated turbidity measuring probes. The separation performance is determined by one of the aforementioned parameters and therefore monitored. If the separation efficiency falls below the above 80%, the UV radiation is triggered until a separation efficiency of more than 95% is reached.
In a particularly effective embodiment variant of the process, the phases of adsorption and regeneration alternate at defined intervals. However, the UV irradiation, the regeneration phase, is also applicable during the ongoing cleaning operation, the concentration phase.
By adding conventional oxidizing agents such as hydrogen peroxide, hypochlorite or their derivatives or ozone and the presence of catalytic substances such as metals or metal oxides, eg. As titanium dioxide, in the membrane of the UV-oxidative regeneration process can be accelerated.
The choice of material for the membrane filter module depends on the type of pollutants and the loaded medium. Membrane filters are as already stated microporous membranes, consisting of a solid matrix with defined pores. One key factor is pore size as a selective feature and UV stability. The pore size of the membranes for pollutant removal from gases and waters can be between 1 and 150 nm.
The invention also provides a membrane filter system for removing pollutants from gases or waters and for on-site regeneration of the membrane filter. The membrane filtration system has at least one membrane filter or module and a UV unit.
The UV unit in the membrane filter module is arranged so that UV irradiation of the entire membrane filter surface is ensured. Preferably, two application devices are possible. One system variant integrates at least one tube membrane filter module and one UV unit. As a rule, the UV unit is located in the center of the tube membrane filter module. Another system variant has at least one plate membrane filter module and at least one UV unit, which is distributed over the entire membrane filter surface.
The UV unit can be designed as a UV lamp or LED system. Their spectrum is characterized by a wide and high-energy bandwidth with the preferred wavelengths from 240 to 290 nm.
Preferably, UV medium-pressure lamps are used. Although medium-pressure lamps require a high electrical output for their operation, they can be regulated steplessly.
