Abstract

The method involves providing a veneer part, particularly as lining part for motor vehicle, in a back side of a decorated molded article with a reinforcing layer, and in visible side with a transparent cover. The transparent cover is applied by using injection compression molding of a transparent plastic material, where the transparent plastic material is a transparent thermoplastic, such as polymethyl methacrylate. The decorative molding is produced in a turning tool in a cavity.

Description

  • The present invention relates to the production of a decorative molding with a decorative part, which is provided on its rear side with a reinforcing layer and on its visible side with a transparent cover. The present invention relates in particular to the production of such a decorative molded part, in which the decorative part is formed by a veneer, in particular a thin-layer veneer.
  • The reinforcing layer and the transparent cover on the visible side can be provided in a manner as it is known from JP 30-30922 A is known. In this prior art, the back reinforcing layer is formed by insert molding the decorative part. Thereafter, a transparent cover is formed by overspraying on the visible side. The transparent cover can also be colored. Usually, the decorative molding is produced by means of two-component injection molding on a turning tool.
  • Corresponding decorative moldings are used as lining parts, in particular in a motor vehicle. Thus, the present invention will specifically specify a decorative molding as a lining part for a motor vehicle.
  • In motor vehicles very high demands are placed on the aesthetic design of the vehicle interior. These also cover decorative moldings as lining parts for the vehicle interior. Accordingly, the decorative molding must meet its own particular aesthetic requirements and also be designed in such a way that it fits into the rest of the design of the vehicle interior.
  • In addition to the previously presented prior art, the applicant refers to the DE 43 01 444 C2 , the DE 43 01 444 as well as the DE 41 24 297 and finally the DE 41 22 412 A1 as relevant state of the art.
  • The present invention is based on the problem to provide an improved method for producing aesthetically pleasing decorative parts, in particular those with very thin veneer parts.
  • To solve this problem, the present invention provides a method having the features of claim 1. In this method, the veneer part is provided on the back with a reinforcing layer and on its visible side with a transparent cover in a conventional manner. Usually, the reinforcing layer and the cover are made of a plastic. The reinforcing layer can be provided by injection molding on the veneer part. In contrast to previous proposals, however, the transparent cover is produced by injection-compression molding according to the inventive method. Accordingly, the plastic melt is injected as a so-called bulk cake in the virtually pressureless, not yet completely closed tool. Only during the solidification phase, the tool is completely closed. The Applicant has surprisingly found that in particular very thin, sensitive veneer parts can be produced by injection compression in an improved manner. Although generic decorative moldings, in particular in the automotive industry, have a very thin transparent covering layer, which in some cases has a thickness of less than 1 mm, so that with a view to uniform solidification of the molten transparent plastic, rapid mold filling under specific conditions would be preferable the Applicant's experiments show that even such thin transparent covers can be produced by injection compression molding with good optical quality. As a plastic is in particular a transparent thermoplastic, preferably PMMA into consideration.
  • It is also possible to produce relatively elongated decorative moldings or large-area moldings with a previously unimpressible by injection molding length / width ratio, such as decorative covers in the door, which extend over the entire width of the door as a long strip, or decorative trim of the dashboard , Which extend over the entire width of the vehicle to produce with the inventive method with good optical quality on the visible side. The melt front is preferably advanced during injection compression transverse to the longitudinal extension of the elongated parts.
  • According to a preferred embodiment of the present invention, the closing of the tool in the context of injection compression is started before the entire volume of the plastic material has been injected into the mold cavity to produce the transparent cover. Tests by the Applicant have shown that even after a mold filling degree of ≥ 35%, preferably from 40 to 80% by volume, particularly preferably from 40 to 60% by volume, based on the formation of the transparent cover, finally filling the mold cavity Total volume of the transparent plastic, the closing of the tool can begin, so that the residual volume is introduced with simultaneous closure movement in the cavity.   • Although, according to the present state of knowledge, the injection molding of the back reinforcing layer is considered to be the best possible embodiment, it is preferable, in view of a good surface of the veneer part, to also produce the back reinforcing layer by means of injection embossing. In this case, the mold cavity can be completely filled with the reinforcing layer forming plastic before starting with the complete tool closing in the context of injection-compression molding.
