Abstract

An electrical connector, which is intended to be arranged in a z-direction above a x-y-plane defining circuit board, has a female housing with a first socket opening and a second socket opening, which are arranged side by side in the x-direction. In this case, each socket opening for receiving a plug-in connector in the y-direction counterpart is formed. In the socket housing, a first contact insert and a second contact insert are arranged, wherein an insertion of the first contact insert and through the second socket opening an insertion of the second contact insert is accessible through the first socket opening. In addition, a partition wall separating the first bushing opening from the second bushing opening is integrally formed.

Description

  • The invention relates to an electrical connector according to the preamble of patent claim 1 and a method for mounting an electrical connector according to the preamble of claim 12.
  • Electrical connectors are known in many designs. There are connectors which are intended to be mounted on an electrical circuit board. In printed circuit boards with complex and feature-rich electronic circuits, it is necessary to provide multiple connectors. In the prior art, it is common to arrange these connectors separately from each other on the circuit board. Due to the advancing miniaturization of electronic circuits and the increasing complexity of the circuits, which requires a larger number of connectors, space problems often arise in the arrangement of the connectors on the printed circuit board.
  • To reduce the space requirement of connectors was by the US 2009/0269980 A1 , the US 6,155,872 , the US 2009/0170369 A1 and the US 2005/0255745 A1 proposed to stack a plurality of connectors and to arrange the resulting connector stack together on a circuit board.
  • The object of the present invention is to provide an improved electrical connector. This object is achieved by an electrical connector having the features of claim 1. It is a further object of the present invention to provide an improved method for mounting an electrical connector. This object is achieved by a method having the features of claim 12. Preferred developments are specified in the dependent claims.
  • An inventive electrical connector is intended to be arranged in a z-direction above a x-y-plane defining circuit board. In this case, the connector has a socket housing with a first socket opening and a second socket opening. In this case, the first socket opening and the second socket opening are arranged next to one another in the x-direction. Further, each socket opening is formed for receiving a plug-in in the y-direction connector counterpart. In addition, a first contact insert and a second contact insert are arranged in the socket housing. In this case, an insertion of the first contact insert and through the second socket opening an insertion of the second contact insert is accessible through the first socket opening. Further, a partition wall separating the first bushing opening from the second bushing opening is integrally formed. Advantageously, the integrally formed partition then have a very low thickness, resulting in a particularly small footprint of the electrical connector. In addition, this connector is very easy to assemble.
  • Preferably, a first outer surface of the socket housing, which lies in the x-direction, has a first fastening device and a second outer surface, which lies opposite the first outer surface, has a second fastening device. In this case, the first fastening device and the second fastening device are provided to connect the connector to the circuit board. Advantageously, the fastening devices then increase the space requirement of the connector only slightly. In addition, the fastening devices allow a very simple attachment of the connector to the circuit board.
  • In one embodiment of the electrical connector, each fastening device is designed to receive a fastening element which is intended to be inserted into at least one fastening hole of the printed circuit board. Advantageously, this fastening device is inexpensive to manufacture and allows a reliable attachment of the connector to the circuit board.
  • In a further development of the electrical connector, a third socket opening is provided in the x-direction next to the second socket opening, through which an insertion opening of a third contact insert is accessible. Advantageously, this connector also requires only two fastening devices and therefore has only a small footprint. In additional developments of the electrical connector, this cascading design of the connector is extended to further socket openings.
  • Preferably, the bushing openings are formed identically.
  • In one embodiment of the electrical connector, the first receptacle opening is configured to receive a USB-MINI-B connector mating piece. Advantageously, the connector counterparts can then meet the existing standard, resulting in cost advantages.
  • Preferably, each contact insert on at least one contact element which is intended to be soldered to a provided on the circuit board contact. Advantageously, can the soldering takes place by means of a reflow soldering process, which enables a cost-effective automated assembly.
  • Particularly preferably, the socket housing is integrally formed. This also results in a simple installation. In addition, a one-piece socket housing can be made very compact.
  • It is expedient that the female housing consists of plastic. Advantageously, the female housing then serves as an electrical insulator.
  • In a preferred embodiment of the connector, the female housing has a contact area and a plug-in area. In this case, the insertion region is intended to be arranged in a recess of the printed circuit board. Advantageously, then results in only a small footprint of the connector in the direction perpendicular to the plane of the circuit board z-direction.
  • Preferably, the contact inserts are latched in the socket housing. Advantageously, during the assembly of the connector, the contact inserts in the socket housing can then first be latched and the socket housing subsequently be arranged on the printed circuit board.
  • An inventive method for mounting an electrical connector comprises method steps for latching a first contact insert and a second contact insert in a female housing, for securing the female housing on a printed circuit board by means of a first fastening device and a second fastening device, and for soldering a contact element of the first contact insert on a provided on the circuit board contact by means of a remelting. Advantageously, these methods can be carried out largely automated.

Next is in 1 one not directly to the first electrical connector 100 associated circuit board 400 shown. Also shows 1 two not to the first electrical connector 100 but belonging to the first electrical connector 100 matching connector mating parts 500 ,
  • The first electrical connector 100 is intended to provide electrical connections between on the circuit board 400 arranged electrical or electronic circuits and the connector counterparts 500 manufacture. In particular, the first electrical connector 100 serve for the transmission of data signals with high data rate. The first electrical connector 100 can be used for example in a motor vehicle. In this case are on the circuit board 400 arranged electronic circuits of the motor vehicle, such as circuits of an infotainment system.
  • For the sake of clarity, is in 1 a Cartesian coordinate system shown. The circuit board 400 is arranged in an xy plane of this coordinate system. A z-direction is perpendicular to the plane of the circuit board 400 oriented.
  • The first electrical connector 100 has a first female housing 200 on. The first socket housing 200 is preferably formed in one piece and may for example consist of an electrically insulating plastic. The first socket housing 200 essentially comprises a plug-in area 260 and a contact area 270 , The insertion area 260 and the contact area 270 each have an approximately cuboid outer contour and are arranged adjacent to each other in the y-direction one behind the other.
  • An outer surface of the insertion area oriented in the xz-plane 260 has a first socket opening 210 and a second socket opening 220 on. The first socket opening 210 and the second socket opening 220 are arranged side by side in the x-direction. In each of the socket openings 210 . 220 can in the y direction of one of the connector counterparts 500 be plugged in. The first socket opening 210 and the second socket opening 220 are by one as a partition 230 trained portion of the insertion area 260 of the first female housing 200 separated from each other. The partition 230 is integrally formed and may have a very small wall thickness in the x direction.
  • The cross sections of the bush openings 210 . 220 are sized so that the connector counterparts 500 in the socket openings 210 . 220 can be introduced. Im in 1 example shown have the socket openings 210 . 220 For example, in each case a cross section with a rectangular and an attached trapezoidal section. The socket openings 210 . 220 However, they can also have other cross sections, for example round or rectangular cross sections. Preferably, both have bushing openings 210 . 220 the same cross section.
  • 1 further shows a first contact insert 310 and a second contact insert 320 , The contact inserts 310 . 320 can also be called headers. The first contact insert 310 and the second contact insert 320 are preferably identical. The contact inserts 310 . 320 are intended to be in the contact area 270 of the first female housing 200 of the first electrical connector 100 to be arranged. For this purpose, one of the circuit board 400 facing, parallel to the xy plane outer surface of the contact area 270 of the first female housing 200 Openings through which the contact inserts 310 . 320 in the contact area 270 of the first female housing 200 can be introduced. Preferably, the contact inserts 310 . 320 in the contact area 270 of the first female housing 200 latched, or in the contact area 270 of the first female housing 200 be clipped. In fully assembled state of the first electrical connector 100 then exist electrically conductive connections between the on the circuit board 400 arranged circuits via the contacts 410 and the contact elements 312 . 322 to those in the plug-in openings 311 . 321 the contact inserts 310 . 320 intended contacts. In addition, the contact inserts 310 . 320 through the solder joints between the feet 313 . 323 and the attachment points 411 on the circuit board 400 held.
  • Furthermore, the circuit board 400 at an outer edge parallel to the x-direction, for example, a rectangular recess 420 on. The insertion area 260 of the first female housing 200 has a larger dimension in the z-direction than the contact area 270 of the first female housing 200 on and stands on the circuit board 400 facing side over the contact area 270 above. This protruding area of the insertion area 260 can in the recess 420 the circuit board 400 be recorded. This is the recess 420 expediently dimensioned sufficiently large. However, it is also possible the insertion area 260 of the first female housing 200 opposite the contact area 270 of the first female housing 200 not to form overlapping. In this case, you can access the recess 420 in the circuit board 400 be waived. The formation of a protruding region of the insertion region 260 and the provision of the recess 420 However, the arrangement of the first electrical connector 100 on the circuit board 400 simplify and fix the first electrical connector 100 on the circuit board 400 contribute.
  • A parallel to the yz plane oriented, the first socket opening 210 adjacent first outer surface 240 of the first female housing 200 has a first fastening device 241 on. One of the first outer surface 240 opposite, also oriented parallel to the yz plane and the second socket opening 220 adjacent second outer surface 250 of the first female housing 200 has a second fastening device 251 on. The fastening devices 241 . 251 are used to attach the first electrical connector 100 on the circuit board 400 , Im in 1 The example shown is the first fastening device 241 formed as in the z-direction through opening, in which a first fastener 242 can be locked. Corresponding to the second fastening device 241 formed as a passage opening, in which a second fastening element 252 can be locked. The fasteners 242 . 252 For example, they may be formed as metallic pins or tabs. In the illustrated embodiment, each of the fasteners 242 . 252 two feet oriented in z-direction towards the PCB 400 over the first socket housing 200 protrude when the fasteners 242 . 252 in the fastening devices 241 . 251 are locked.
  • Furthermore, the circuit board 400 several mounting holes 430 on, which are intended to the protruding feet of the fasteners 242 . 252 take. Im in 1 illustrated embodiment are on each side of the recess 420 two mounting holes each 430 intended. Will be the first socket housing 200 so on the circuit board 400 arranged that the protruding portion of the insertion area 260 in the recess 420 the circuit board 400 Takes place, and then become the fasteners 242 . 252 in the fastening devices 241 . 251 of the first female housing 200 introduced, so are the feet of the fasteners 242 . 252 in the mounting holes 430 the circuit board 400 recorded and can be soldered there. This results in a stable attachment of the first female housing 200 on the circuit board 400 ,
  • The fastening devices 241 . 251 of the first female housing 200 may also be designed differently in alternative embodiments. For example, the fastening devices 241 . 251 be executed as known from the prior art board-lock systems, if it does not affect the rest of the manufacturing process.
