Die vereinigten organischen Extrakte werden mit 1 M Natronlauge (3 × 50 ml) gewaschen und über Natriumsulfat getrocknet. Das Lösungsmittel wird im Vakuum entfernt und der zurückbleibende Feststoff aus Aceton umkristallisiert.

Die erhaltene Suspension wird mit 1 N Essigsäure neutral gestellt. Der gebildete Feststoff wird abfiltriert, mit Wasser (50 ml) gewaschen und im Vakuum getrocknet.
Ausbeute: 1.0 g (60% der Theorie)A suspension of potassium hydroxide (1.4 g, 25 mmol) and trimethylsulfoxonium iodide (5.5 g, 25 mmol) in DMSO (50 ml) is stirred at room temperature for 60 minutes.
