Abstract
Description
The present invention relates to a safety device for a motor vehicle with a rigid vehicle structural part, in which a cavity is provided.
Motor vehicles are known from the prior art, the vehicle structure is essentially defined by a body, which is composed of several vehicle structural parts, such as the vehicle pillars and the roof frame. In this case, the rigid vehicle structural parts are generally designed such that a cavity is formed within the vehicle structural parts. In new generation vehicles, the rigid structural parts of the vehicle are much narrower; h., These have a much smaller cross-section than the previous models. Of these, in particular the vehicle pillars, such as the A-pillar, and the lateral roof frame parts are affected, which has the advantage that on the one hand the view of the vehicle occupant less restricted by said vehicle structural parts and on the other hand, the entry and exit into the or is facilitated from the motor vehicle. In addition, such narrow executed vehicle structural parts allow that the freedom of movement within the vehicle interior for the vehicle occupant is less limited. However, it has proven to be disadvantageous that because of the smaller cross section, the vehicle structural parts mentioned also have lower strength or stability, which leads to an increased risk of injury to the vehicle occupant in the event of a crash. Thus, the vehicle structural parts, such as the roof frame or a vehicle pillar, can be pushed by a vehicle impact far in the direction of the vehicle interior and thus in the direction of the vehicle occupant, where they can lead to life-threatening injuries.
It is therefore an object of the present invention to provide a safety device for a motor vehicle with a rigid vehicle structural part, which on the one hand enables the use of a space-saving vehicle structural part and on the other hand reduces the risk of injury to the vehicle occupant in the event of a crash.
This object is achieved by the features specified in claim 1. Advantageous embodiments of the invention are the subject of the dependent claims.
The safety device according to the invention for a motor vehicle has a rigid vehicle structural part, which may be, for example, a vehicle pillar or a roof frame of the motor vehicle. It is preferred if the rigid vehicle structural part is formed as part of the body of the motor vehicle. A cavity is provided inside the vehicle structure part, so that the vehicle structure part can be tubular, for example. According to the invention, a gas generator for inflating the vehicle structure part is provided by enlarging the cavity in the event of a crash.
While in conventional safety devices for motor vehicles, the rigid vehicle structure part is exposed to the external stresses in the event of a crash and only other security measures, such as the deployment of a gas bag, are taken, the shape of the vehicle structure part is changed in the safety device according to the invention by the vehicle structural part under magnification of the internal cavity is inflated by a gas generator. In this way, during normal operation of the motor vehicle, a vehicle structural part with a relatively small cross-sectional area and thus relatively low strength can be used. This initially has the advantage that both the view and the freedom of movement of the vehicle occupant is less restricted by the said vehicle structure part. In the event of a crash, however, the vehicle structure part is inflated by enlarging the hollow space or enlarging the cross section through the gas generator, so that the vehicle structural part has a higher strength. The inflated vehicle structure part is therefore suitable to withstand greater external loads, so that the risk of injury to the vehicle occupant is substantially reduced.
In a preferred embodiment of the safety device according to the invention, the vehicle structural part can be inflated by increasing the area moment of inertia of the cross section of the vehicle structural part. As already mentioned, this reduces the risk of injury to the vehicle occupant in the event of a crash, especially since the inflated vehicle structure part with the higher area moment of inertia is better suited to withstand the external loads that occur.
According to a further preferred embodiment of the safety device according to the invention, the vehicle structural part consists essentially of metal. As already mentioned, the vehicle structural part can be, for example, a section or a part of the vehicle body. In any case, the metal is plastically deformed by inflating the vehicle structural part. Even today, gas generators generate a corresponding pressure which is suitable for plastically deforming said rigid vehicle structural part made of metal.
In a particularly preferred embodiment of the safety device according to the invention, the vehicle structural part has a wall surrounding the cavity, which is formed at least partially folded in the deflated state of the vehicle structural part. If the vehicle structural part is inflated by the gas generator, the initially folded wall can unfold due to the gas pressure. The folded wall or the folded wall section of the vehicle structure part ensures that the deflated vehicle structure part is made relatively slender, while the inflated vehicle structure part can have a relatively large cross section, which ultimately leads to an increase in the strength or area moment of inertia of the vehicle structure part in the event of a crash ,
In an advantageous embodiment of the safety device according to the invention, the vehicle structural part is a vehicle pillar, preferably the A pillar, and / or a roof frame of the motor vehicle. As already mentioned above, this embodiment is advantageous in that a particularly slim running vehicle pillar or a particularly slim running roof frame restricts the freedom of movement and the view of the vehicle occupant less.
In conventional airbag devices, the gas generator is often connected via a filling tube with the associated, folded and flexible gas bag. This has the disadvantage that, on the one hand, an additional component, namely the filling tube, is required and, on the other hand, the airbag device has a relatively long response time, ie. h., The time to fill the airbag is significantly higher. To overcome these disadvantages in the safety device according to the invention, in which the vehicle structural part is inflated, the gas generator is arranged in a further advantageous embodiment of the safety device according to the invention at least partially within the cavity in the vehicle structure part. In this way, eliminates an additional filling tube and the response time of the safety device is significantly reduced.
If the gas generator, as described with reference to the preceding embodiment, at least partially disposed within the cavity in the vehicle structure part, so the cavity must be formed so large that the inclusion of the gas generator is possible. However, if the gas generator has a particularly large cross section, this inevitably leads to a larger cross section of the rigid vehicle structural part. As a result, the advantages mentioned at the beginning, namely the improved visibility and the greater freedom of movement of the vehicle occupant, would be reduced or even nullified. To counteract this, the gas generator is formed in a particularly advantageous embodiment of the safety device according to the invention as Schnurgasgenerator. Schnurgas generators have in contrast to conventional gas generators a much smaller cross-section, so that the vehicle structure part, in the cavity of the Schnurgasgenerator is arranged, may have a correspondingly small cross section, which restricts neither the freedom of movement nor the view of the vehicle occupants.
In a further advantageous embodiment of the safety device according to the invention, the diameter of the cordgas generator is preferably not greater than 9 mm in order to achieve the aforementioned advantages.
According to a further advantageous embodiment of the safety device according to the invention, the cordgas generator has a tubular outer casing, which has gas outlet openings and in which an elongated fuel strand is arranged. In this case, the tubular outer sheath is preferably designed to be flexible in order to be able to adapt the cordgas generator to the course within the motor vehicle by means of corresponding deflections.
In a further advantageous embodiment of the safety device according to the invention, the aforementioned fuel strand is surrounded by a tubular, preferably flexible, inner sheath or / and produced by extrusion. Here, the tubular inner casing causes the fuel train is not readily accessible via the gas outlet openings in the tubular outer casing, whereby a protection of the fuel strand from the weather or the like is effected. The tubular inner sheath causes mutatis mutandis closing the gas outlet openings until the time in which the fuel line is ignited.
In a further preferred embodiment of the safety device according to the invention, at least one elongated, preferably continuously formed, hollow space is provided between the fuel strand and the inner sheath. Due to the elongated cavity, the ignition behavior or the burning behavior of the fuel strand is substantially improved. In this embodiment, it is advantageous if the cross section of the fuel strand for this purpose has an outer contour deviating from the inner contour of the cross section of the inner casing. Thus, the cross section of the fuel strand may be formed, for example, cross-shaped, triangular or rectangular, ie, one of Have a circle deviating outer contour, while the inner contour of the cross section is circular. If the fuel rod is designed to be cross-shaped, then it has also proven to be advantageous if the free ends of the cross-shaped cross section faces the gas outlet openings in the tubular outer casing of the cord gas generator.
In a further particularly preferred embodiment of the safety device according to the invention, a folded, flexible airbag is furthermore provided outside the cavity formed in the vehicle structural part, which is likewise inflatable by the cordgas generator. In the event of a crash, both the rigid vehicle structure part and the folded, flexible gas bag are thus inflated by the one Schnurgasgenerator, which on the one hand eliminates a further gas generator for inflating the gas bag and on the other hand, a substantially simultaneous inflation of gas bag and vehicle structure part is possible, the latter to a larger Safety for the vehicle occupants leads. Also, in this case, only one ignition device is required, which interacts with a corresponding crash sensor within the motor vehicle.
In a further preferred embodiment of the safety device according to the invention, which is based on the embodiment described above, the cordgas generator protrudes from the cavity. This means that the cordgas generator is arranged partly within the hollow space in the vehicle structural part and partly outside of said hollow space in order to reach the gas bag. In this embodiment, it is important to ensure that the cavity in the region of the transition of the Schnurgas generator from the cavity to the outside in a suitable gas-tight manner, to ensure that the emerging from the Schnurgasgenerator in the cavity gas does not or only slightly escape, and thus can serve the inflation of the vehicle structure part. In this embodiment, it is further particularly preferred if the section of the cordgas generator protruding from the cavity extends into the gas bag. In this way, the response time of the gas bag or the filling time thereof is substantially reduced, and it can be dispensed with an additional component in the form of a filling tube between the Schnurgasgenerator and the gas bag.
In a further advantageous embodiment of the safety device according to the invention, the gas bag, preferably also a part of the cord gas generator, is arranged on a roof frame, which is preferably a lateral roof frame part, while the vehicle structure part of a vehicle pillar, preferably the A pillar of the motor vehicle, is formed.
According to a further advantageous embodiment of the safety device according to the invention, the gas bag forms a side airbag, which preferably can be unfolded downwards in the manner of a curtain in the vertical direction.
As already described above with reference to an embodiment, the vehicle structural part and the gas bag are inflated by the same Schnur gas generator when it comes to a crash of the motor vehicle. In this case, the inflating of the vehicle structure part on the one hand and the inflation of the gas bag on the other hand, due to the effect of time delay. However, in order to keep the risk of injury to the vehicle occupant particularly low in the event of a crash, the vehicle structural part and the gas bag can in a further preferred embodiment of the safety device according to the invention be inflated substantially simultaneously by the cordgas generator.
In a further preferred embodiment of the safety device according to the invention, a triggerable ignition device for igniting the gas generator or the fuel train is provided. In this case, the ignition device can be activated or activated, for example, by a corresponding crash sensor within the motor vehicle. In order to be able to use a vehicle structure part which has a particularly small cross-section, the ignition device in this embodiment is preferably arranged outside the cavity formed in the vehicle structure part.
