Description

The present invention relates to a light and / or Air and / or water hermetically sealed electronic Circuit made in particular of organic material, a process ren for their manufacture as well as their use as Tag, Sen sor or the like.

Radio frequency ident tags (RFID) are currently with metalli coils and a silicon chip. you will be for example for logistic purposes, access controls or used similar.

A simple encapsulation of an organic field is known Effect transistor from DE 100 40 442.1.

Because of their relatively high production costs, they are for Mass applications, such as electronic barcodes, for the plagi Protection or as a single-use item is not economical. RFID Tags should be as passive as possible. H. without battery, work. They get their energy from a coil that comes from a Le is controlled in resonance. In this case, a Memory activated in an electronics chip of the day and at for example a stored information such as sender and Addressee for logistics applications, read out.

The range between the reader and the tag is determined by the Power of the radiation from the reader is determined, that is agreed frequency ranges, such as 125 kHz or 13.56 MHz, as well as the size and quality of the coil or antenna ne of the day. This range is typical for passive tags usually less than 60 cm. The structure of the coil hangs there at strongly dependent on the carrier frequency used, for example wise is a wound at a frequency of 125 kHz  Coil with usually several hundred turns used while at a frequency of 13.56 MHz a flat coil of about ten turns are used.

Organic electronic circuits can be very expensive produce cheap. They are therefore suitable for the construction of Tags, therefore, for mass markets and as single-use products can be used. One also thinks of electronics tickets, theft protection, baggage control or for example electronic stamps, electronic what logo and much more.

Electronic circuits made in particular of organic mate rial, however, have two major disadvantages. On the one hand are the organic materials against environmental influences, like light, air and water, very sensitive and age under this influence relatively quickly. The other are in polymer technology or antennas manufactured at all in printing technology significantly worse than metallic antennas. You own a higher electrical resistance and a lower Gü te. This leads to those on organic materials based electronic components and tags only a minor Have lifespan and only for a very short range are suitable.

This aging problem is reasonably comparable at or ganic light emitting diodes, so-called OLEDs. Currently being here Glass used as a substrate and also a glass plate over the Components glued so that a fairly good hermetic encapsulation selection is guaranteed. However, glass is in the frame intended application of this invention from mechani and cost reasons not possible. Conventional organi substrates are permeable to light, air and water and therefore also not suitable. Metallized substrates, such as in the food packaging sector or in the airtight packaging of sensitive materials used, are particularly evident with RFID tags  also out of the question since the metal layer in the Substrate prevents the coil from being coupled to the reader changed. A Faraday cage or a metallic one is created shielding.

The object of the present invention is therefore to create a structure for an electronic circuit made in particular from organic Specify material at which the electronic circuit is hermetically shielded from light, air and water and thus the aging problem does not occur. simultaneously the electronic circuit should be simple and inexpensive be producible so that tags made from it for masses markets and can be used as disposable products and can be combined in particular with coils, antennas, without metallic shielding.

The present invention relates to an electronic circuit comprising electronic components made in particular from organic material, the component (s) being / are arranged between at least two layers ( 2 , 2 ') forming a barrier and being protected against the influence of light and / or air and / or a liquid such as water are protected.

This hermetic seal or encapsulation achieved that materials are used that are possible The greatest possible barrier against environmental influences such as light and air and form water. On such a layer, the scarf tion in a conventional manner, preferably by printing technology ken, arranged or built. Another identical or Effectively similar layer is through over the circuit Gluing or laminating arranged so that the organic Circuit is similarly well encapsulated as for the OLEDs above is described. You just have to make sure that from the circuit electrical contact points freely accessible are.

The barrier layer preferably comprises at least one Layer of plastic film, such as polyethylene (PE), polyethylene lenterephthalate (PET), polyimide (PI) and the like. This Plastic film can either be used as a barrier layer, through appropriate doping or networking or is with a shielding barrier layer. This separate barrier layer can, for example be a metallic layer, which is on the base film is steamed or laminated. Suitable metals are here for aluminum, copper or chrome. The plastic film shows usually a thickness between 10 and 100 microns, preferably 30-60 µm. An applied metal layer is more common as between 5 and 100 microns, preferably between 5 and 50 microns thick.

On the other hand, the barrier can also be provided by a non-metallic cal layer. This non-metallic mate rial should be selected so that there is light and / or water and / or traps or absorbs oxygen. suitable non-metallic coatings to form a barrier re against light, air and / or water are therefore examples se layers of largely dense particles, if possible are arranged overlapping. Form suitable materials graphite or inorganic oxides with platelet structure.

The barrier layer used for encapsulation can be in an advantageous embodiment of the present invention Include barrier layers of the same or different types. In other words, the layer (s) forming the barrier can, for example, a metallic barrier layering and a non-metallic barrier coating combine. In general, the layer forming the barrier can so be a multilayer system. A suitable structure consists for example of a polyethylene terephthalate Foil, which is coated with aluminum, whereby on the Alu minium coating again a polyethylene terephthalate film is laminated on.

The film substrate can be transparent but also completely un be transparent. An opaque film even has that Advantage that harmful effects of light in the organi electronics in an optimal way.

The electronic circuit designed according to the invention can thus include all components essential for a circuit. But mainly the active components are preferred encapsulated. These are mostly the integrated circuit, Transistors, diodes and especially rectifier diodes or similar active components.

Passive components such as resistors, capacitors, Coils can of the electronic scarf according to the invention tung be included. Only the sensitive can do just as well Components such as the organic integrated circuit itself hold his and other parts, such as an equal richterdiode, which is then still in the conventional silicon Technology can be made can be outside.

The electronic encapsulated circuit according to the invention is not only usable for tags but everywhere where a metallized substrate is not an obstacle to use, for example also with sensors or other electronics components that are realized with organic electronics can be.

A particular advantage arises in the event that Foil substrates Layer systems or foil systems with metal layers can be used. In this case, the metal layers also integrated into the corresponding circuit be, for example by a suitable structuring as electrical conductors or as passive components such as condensers sensors, coils, resistors.

The invention accordingly also relates to a method for producing an electronic circuit, comprising electronic components made in particular of organic material, with the following steps:
Building a barrier-forming layer,
Arranging electronic components to form an electronic circuit on the barrier layer,
Creation of electrical conductor tracks for electrical contacts,

The electronic circuit can be as simple as Tag or sensor are trained and the fiction Appropriate procedures can be used.

Im Folgenden wird die Erfindung anhand der anhängenden Zeich nungen näher erläutert, worin:In the following the invention with reference to the attached drawing in which:

Fig. 4 ein bevorzugtes Ausführungsbeispiel der Kombination einer erfindungsgemäßen elektronischen Schaltung mit einer Spule ist; und Fig. 4 is a preferred embodiment of the combination of an electronic circuit according to the invention with a coil; and

. Figure 5 is a further preferred embodiment of such a combination.

In Fig. 1 an inventive electronic circuit 1 is shown, which electronic components contains 3. These electronic components 3 can be constructed entirely or partially from organic materials, that is to say conductive, semiconducting or non-conductive polymeric plastics. The electronic components 3 are arranged on a barrier forming the layer 2 , which is multi-layered in the embodiment shown. As such, the electronic components 3 or chips can be glued to the layer 2 or held stationary thereon in some other way. You can also be trained directly on it by suitable printing processes.

The layer 2 itself is made up of three layers 4 , 5 and 6 in the embodiment shown. The bottom layer 4 is a plastic film suitable for the purposes of use, such as polyethylene, polyethylene terephthalate, polyimide or the same flexible materials. The second layer 5 is designed as the actual barrier layer. This is preferably a metallic layer made of aluminum, copper or chrome, which is either laminated onto the layer 4 as a film or has been evaporated onto it. As already mentioned, the barrier layer can also consist of a non-metallic substrate. Another layer 6 in the form of a plastic film is glued or laminated over the barrier layer 5 .

Electrical contacts 8 are formed or arranged on this layer 2 in addition to the electronic components 3 . They serve to later connect the electronic circuit 1 to, for example, a coil or antenna, that is to say to set up, for example, an RFID tag. The contacts 8 can consist of organic, conductive materials and, for example, can be applied to the film substrate in the printing process. Of course, metallic contacts, for example made of copper, can also be used. These contacts 8 are electrically conductively connected to predetermined ones of the electronic components 3 by lines 7 .

A further barrier 2 ', which has the same structure as the first layer 2 , is arranged hermetically sealed above the electronic components 3 and thus in part the lines 7 . In the embodiment shown, it is again a multi-layer system consisting of two layers 4 , 6 made of plastic film, between which a barrier layer 5 is arranged. The materials for these layers can be selected from the same ones that can be used for the further layer 2 . For the manufacturing process, it is advantageous to either glue or laminate this second upper and covering or encapsulating barrier layer as such. It is evident that the individual electronic components are completely enclosed by the layers 2 and 2 'and are therefore optimally shielded against environmental influences.

Fig. 2 shows the structure of the electronic circuit 1 only in a plan view, from which especially the electrical connection with the contacts 8 located outside the encapsulation is shown.

With reference to the following Fig. 3 will now be described how it is possible despite possible metallized encapsulation of the electronic circuit 1 to achieve a greater range of an antenna, which is required for the construction of an RFID tag, for example, than with a complete one Integration of organic electronics with the coil.

Der ganze Aufbau ergibt so einen funktionierenden Tag.The electronics constructed according to the invention is such that it can be attached as a kind of sticker with the exposed electrical contacts on a corresponding coil or antenna 9 , 10 . The respective ends of the coil ( Fig. 3a) and 3b)) or a rod-shaped antenna ( Fig. 3c)) can be connected to the encapsulated electronics by simply gluing. The whole set-up results in a functioning day.

With this construction, the electronics are separated from the coil. You can therefore use a conventional metal antenna as a coil use a correspondingly high quality for a possible has a very long range. Also very large numbers be connected without the economic disadvantage, that the more complex technology for the production of the organi circuit for only a small part of the area is done.

A further step in the manufacture is saved, which is generally necessary in the case of flat coils, namely the connection of the corresponding coil ends 14 , 15 in a further plane. There is an application here that antennas can be printed on the packaging by inexpensive printing processes, for example in the packaging industry, and in a last step the stickers corresponding to the electronics described above can be stuck on.

It is advantageous here that the corresponding electrical Pad areas are quite large for easy adjustment to allow. If the connections are standardized, the opening bring also happen at a later stage. in the Retailers could use this to label their own company ben. With this construction there is even a metallized surface of the entire electronics for the RF connection of the antenna annoying, since this lies over the coil turns and not in the area enclosed by the coil.

An essential aspect here is that the "transponder circuit" is applied directly to the substrate of the antenna 9 , 10 . As a barrier layer 2 then a homogeneously metalized plastic film 4, 5, for example, again made of polyethylene, polyethylene terephthalate or polyimide is used with up dampftem aluminum. By a structuring method, a coil is generated on the metal layer 5 . At places where the actual circuit 3 is arranged, one leaves a metal layer, which then serves as a barrier or encapsulation. It is of course also conceivable to incorporate this metal layer directly into the circuit by appropriate structuring, for example as conductor tracks or as passive components. A multi-layer system would then be advantageous, in which one layer for encapsulation and one for use in the circuit can be used.

The advantage of this construction is that the whole Ident Tag can be manufactured as an integrated system which in particular reduces costs.

In Fig. 4 is on a barrier layer 2 , which can be formed as described above, an antenna 9 , 10 forms, which consists for example of a metal or a conductive polymer. Inside the antenna guide there is an electronic circuit 1 , for example a silicon chip or a polymer chip, which is connected to both ends 14 , 15 of the antenna 9 , 10 , who is supposed to be connected electronically. For this purpose, the corner 13 of the layer 2 provided by a dotted line is folded over in such a way that the end 14 of the antenna comes to rest on the contact surface 12 . After folding, the electrical circuit 3 is connected to the antenna 9 , 10 via the conductor tracks 7 . In order to prevent a short circuit of the folded conductor track 7 with the antenna 9 , 10 , an insulating layer must be applied to the windings of the antenna 9 , 10 before the folding. This insulation layer can also serve as an adhesive in order to permanently fix the folded corner 13 . This type of connection can save the previously usual method step, namely the additional application of a structured conductor track.

FIG. 5 is located on the layer 2, an antenna 9, 10 as shown in Fig. 4. An electronic circuit 3 is outside of the antenna 9, 10 is in a corner 13 of the layer 2 is assigned. This corner 13 is now folded over so that the contact surface 8 comes to rest on the contact surface 12 of the antenna 9 , 10 . In order to prevent a short circuit of the folded conductor track 7 with the antenna 9 , 10 , an insulation layer must be applied to the windings of the antenna 9 , 10 before the folding. This insulation layer can also serve as an adhesive in order to permanently fix the folded corner 13 .

The special feature of this embodiment is that the electronic circuit is determined by the Umklappvorgang to a 3 connected to the antenna 9, 10 and on the other hand is encapsulated electro African circuit 3, namely stratmaterial by the sub must be the suitable selected.
