Description

Hintergrund der ErfindungBackground of the Invention 1. Gebiet der Erfindung1. Field of the Invention

The present invention relates to a screen display system and a screen display method, and particularly an image display system and a display method that are applicable to display devices which it the user enable the orientation of the screen around its Rotation axis according to the position on the screen showed images changing, with the axis of rotation in the right Angle to the screen is arranged.

2. Beschreibung des verwandten Stands der Technik2. Description of the Related Art

For displaying or creating an additional image or additional information on one screen with a main picture or main information became picture screen display systems widely used in practice by ver different display systems, such as B. in plasma screen directions, liquid crystal display devices and Cathode ray tubes used. Usually in An display devices built-in display systems.

This on the screen with the help of Bilschirman display system or the additional information (which in the following as the screen image or the (Figure is labeled) has an on-screen display menu on that for adjusting and / or adjusting the built-in functions of the display device is determined further a set of signal input information to represent the  The type of signal input present in the display device, and / or a set of warning information to warn the user user before a malfunction, which is in the display device tion has occurred. The additional information of this kind is displayed on the screen with the help of characters, e.g. B. letters and numbers, symbols, such as. B. + and -, symbols such. B. iconic characters, and / or images (or characters), such as B. Lines, bars and frames.

Thin, flat displays have become available in recent years conditions (which can be called flat panel displays), such as B. plasma screen devices, popularly used. Some of these flat displays are capable of Change the orientation of the rectangular screen. With in other words, the user can align the image screen between the portrait and landscape type representations choose. In the "portrait" type representation (which also as the "portrait" setting can be referred to) is the rectangular screen arranged so that its shorter side is up. On the other hand, the "landscape" type- Presentation (which is also called the "landscape setting" can be drawn) the rectangular screen with its longer side arranged above. The display devices the This type is often referred to as a "two-way display".

To enable a change in the screen orientation, must have the video input input to the display device signal according to the orientation of the image umbrella (i.e. the portrait or landscape attitude). For example, if the display device connected to a PC, the video input signal the display device is supplied by the computer. In this In this case, the video input signal must correspond to the computer changed after changing the orientation of the screen become. If so, the user can view the picture ter the displayed image on the screen in the correct  or consider proper alignment.

On the other hand, if the user rotates the screen axis of the screen by 90 ° between the portrait and country shafts settings, the additional information using the on-screen display system with the screen rotated 90 ° while the desired main image remains untwisted on the same screen. To this Way, the user must use the conventional screen display This type of system operates this manually to ensure that the speci display on-screen menu, and to then change its orientation in the menu so that this with the screen orientation changed in this way matches every time he or she turns off the screen changes direction.

Accordingly, there arises a problem that the user cannot use the has to perform impractical and annoying operation every time if he or she changes the screen orientation, causing the operability of the dual orientation display is reduced. This is contrary to the recently standing tendency to improve or improve the operability promote.

A prior art method related to the invention nik is in the Japanese unexamined patent publication chung No. 7-287623, which was published in 1995 is. The above and others not specifically mentioned are given to professionals in engineering from the follow up the description can be seen.

According to a first form of the present invention, a screen display system is provided which is intended for displaying a screen image on a screen of a display device, the system being integrated into a display device for installation. The system has the following:

  • a) einen Neigungswinkelsensor für das Erfassen eines Nei gungswinkels des Bildschirms der Anzeigevorrichtung im Hin blick auf eine Bezugsorientierung;
    wobei der Neigungswinkelsensor ein Neigungswinkelsignal ent sprechend dem Neigungswinkel des Bildschirms erzeugt;
    a) a tilt angle sensor for detecting a tilt angle of the screen of the display device in view of a reference orientation;
    wherein the tilt angle sensor generates a tilt angle signal corresponding to the tilt angle of the screen;
  • b) einen Drehwinkel-Datenerzeuger für das Erzeugen von Dreh winkeldaten des Bildschirms basierend auf dem Neigungswinkel signal vom Neigungswinkelsensor;
    wobei die Drehwinkeldaten die Lage des Bildschirms bestimmen;
    b) a rotation angle data generator for generating rotation angle data of the screen based on the inclination angle signal from the inclination angle sensor;
    the angle of rotation data determining the position of the screen;
  • c) eine Bildschirmanzeige-Datensteuereinheit zur Erzeugung gedrehter Bildschirmanzeigedaten entsprechend der Lage des Bildschirms, welche durch die Drehwinkeldaten vom Drehwinkel- Datenerzeuger bestimmt wird;c) an on-screen display data controller for generation rotated display data according to the location of the Screen, which is determined by the angle of rotation data from the angle of rotation Data producer is determined;
  • d) ein Bildschirmanzeige-Bilddatensteuereinheit zur Erzeu gung gedrehter Bildschirmanzeige-Bilddaten basierend auf den Bildschirmanzeigedaten von der Bildschirmanzeige-Datensteuer einheit; und d) a display image image control unit for generation rotated screen image data based on the Display data from the display data control unit; and
  • e) einen Mischer für das Mischen der gedrehten Bildschirman zeige-Bilddaten von der Bildschirmanzeige-Bilddatensteuerein heit mit gedrehten Haupt-Bilddaten, welche von einer Steuer einheit der Anzeigevorrichtung geliefert werden, woraus die Erzeugung der Bilddaten resultiert, die sowohl ein gedrehtes Bildschirmbild als auch ein gedrehtes Hauptbild darstellen.e) a mixer for mixing the rotated screens display image data from the on-screen image data control unit with rotated main image data, which is from a tax Unit of the display device are supplied, from which the Generation of image data results, which is both a rotated Display the screen image as well as a rotated main image.

In the screen display system according to the first form In the present invention, the tilt angle sensor detects the Tilt angle of the screen of the display device in the rear look at the reference orientation. According to the thus captured The screen's tilt angle creates the tilt angle sensor the tilt angle signal.

The angle of rotation data generator also generates the angle of rotation data of the screen, which is the location of the screen from the Nei Determine the angle signal. According to the location of the picture screen, which is determined using the angle of rotation data, the on-screen data controller generates the rotated ones Display data. On-screen data control unit generates the rotated screen image image data rend on the rotated screen display thus obtained Data.

Finally the mixer mixes the rotated screen display image data with the rotated main image data, from which the image data resulting from the rotated screen show picture and show the rotated main picture.

Accordingly, the orientation of the on-screen display image or image on the screen of the display device is automatically adjusted according to the change in orientation of the screen. This means that the operability of the display device 40 , which is able to change its screen orientation, is improved.

According to a second aspect of the present invention, a screen display method for displaying a screen image on a screen of a display device is provided. This procedure has the following steps:

  • a) Erfassung eines Neigungswinkels des Bildschirms der An zeigevorrichtung im Hinblick auf eine Bezugsorientierung;
    wobei der Neigungswinkelsensor ein Neigungswinkelsignal ent sprechend dem Neigungswinkel des Bildschirms erzeugt;
    a) detection of an angle of inclination of the screen of the display device with respect to a reference orientation;
    wherein the tilt angle sensor generates a tilt angle signal corresponding to the tilt angle of the screen;
  • b) die Erzeugung von Drehwinkeldaten des Bildschirms basie rend auf dem in Schritt (a) erzeugten Neigungswinkelsignal;

A screen display system 10 according to a first embodiment of the invention has an arrangement shown in FIGS. 1 and 2. As shown in FIG. 3, the system 10 is built into a flat panel display device 40 .

As shown in FIG. 3, the display device 40 comprises an approximately rectangular plasma display panel 41 , the screen display system 10 , a housing 42 with a flat and approximately rectangular shape for accommodating the panel 41 and the system 10 , and one Foot 43 for supporting the housing 42 including the field 41 and the system 10 . Before device 40 is usually arranged on the flat surface of a table (not shown) or the like in such a way that the entire device 40 is statically supported or held by means of foot 43 on the table, as shown in Fig. 3 .

The field 41 has a rectangular screen 41 a, which is exposed on the housing 42 on the front. For example, a main image 51 is displayed on the screen 41 a, as shown in FIGS. 7 and 8, and at the same time an additional screen display image or an image 52 is displayed on the same screen 41 a, this being from the actual main image 51 is overlapped. An example of a screen display image 52 is shown in FIG. 9, which is a control menu for adjusting the setting of the display device 40 itself.

The housing 42 is constructed so that it is rotatable about the specific axis of rotation of the display device 40 along the arrow B shown in FIG. 3, wherein the axis is arranged at the center A of the rectangular screen 41 a and a right angle to the screen 41st a has. When the user of the display device 40 rotates the housing 42 about the axis by a certain angle, the display panel 41 and the screen display system 10 are also rotated about the same axis together with the housing 42 .

As shown in FIG. 1, the screen display system 10 includes a gravity or tilt angle sensor 1 , a rotation angle data generator 2 , a screen display font control circuit 3 , a screen display screen generator circuit 4, and a screen display signal mixer circuit 5 .

The gravity or inclination angle sensor 1 is placed at a suitable location in the housing 42 of the display device 41 , so that it is in the vicinity of a corner of the field 41 , as shown in FIG. 3. The sensor 1 detects continuously the angle of inclination of the shorter side 42a of the Ge häuses 42 (that is, of the screen 41 a) with respect to the direction of gravity G, whereby continuously a Neigungswin is output angle signal S1 proportional to the value of the inclination angle of the rotation angle data generating circuit. 2 The angle of inclination is measured counterclockwise with respect to the direction of gravity G. The direction G is typically perpendicular to the table (not shown) on which the display device 40 is arranged. Any sensor can be used as the sensor 1 if it is able to measure the angle of inclination of the housing 42 and to be installed in the housing 42 together with the field 41 .

The angle of rotation data generator circuit 2 receives the inclination angle signal S1 from the gravity sensor 1 and then recognizes the angle of inclination of the screen 41 a (ie the housing 42 ) with respect to the direction of gravity G from the signal S1. If the value of the inclination angle thus recognized is un dangerously equal to one of the predetermined angles of 0 °, 90 °, 180 ° or 270 °, the circuit 2 outputs a rotation angle data signal S2 to the on-screen display font control circuit 3 in accordance with the value of the inclination angle .

Hier empfängt der Speicher 11 das Signal S3.The screen display font control circuit 3 , as shown in Fig. 2, has a comparison font data memory 11 and a font data generator circuit 12 . The circuit 3 receives a font-determining signal S3 that is sent from outside the display device 10 (e.g., from the display device 40 ). Here the memory 11 receives the signal S3.

The comparison font data memory 11 of the on-screen display font control circuit 3 supplies sets of the comparison font data (e.g. in the form of imaged bit data) in advance. The comparison font data is data not only for displaying letters, but also characters, symbols, images (or figures), etc., which are necessary to generate specific screen display images or images. One of the sets of the comparison font data in the memory 11 is selectively read out and supplied to the font data generating circuit 12 with the aid of a font data signal S11 in accordance with the received signal S3 determining the font.

The font data generating circuit 12 of the screen display Schiftsteuerschaltkreises 3 generates a set of illustra th Bitddaten which on the surface of the screen 41 a to the specific angle of 0 °, 90 °, 180 ° or 270 ° accordingly the font data signal S11 and the Font determining signal S3 have been rotated. The set of the mapped bit data rotated in this manner is referred to as the "rotated on-screen font data". The rotated on-screen display font data generated in this manner is then supplied to the on-screen display image data generating circuit 4 by means of an on-screen display font data signal S4.

The screen display image data generator circuit 4 receives the rotated screen display font data provided by the font data generator circuit 12 of the screen display font control circuit 3 , and then generates rotated screen display image data. The rotated screen display image data thus generated is supplied to the screen display signal mixer circuit 5 by means of a screen display image data signal S6.

The on-screen signal mixer circuit 5 receives the rotated on-screen image data generated by the circuit 4 using the on-screen image data signal S6 while receiving the rotated main image data on a video input signal S5. The video input signal S5 is delivered by the display device 40 (e.g. from the display field 41 ) itself using a known method. The rotation angle of the rotated main image data supplied by the signal S5 is equal to the rotation angle of the rotated screen display image data. Then the circuit 5 mixes the rotated screen image data with the rotated main image data, resulting in image data that are displayed on the screen 41 a. The resulting image data is data which form a result image which contains both the main image and the screen image on the screen 41a . The result image data generated in this way are forwarded to the outside of the screen display system 10 (for example to the display field 41 ) with the aid of a video output signal S7.

Next, the operation of the screen display system 10 with the arrangement described above will be explained below with reference to the flowchart shown in FIG. 4.

It is believed that the plasma display device 40 is initially placed on the surface of the table (not shown) in such a way that the housing 42 is provided with its longer side at the top (ie will hold in landscape setting) as shown in FIG is shown in FIGS. 3 and 7. In this situation, it is further assumed that a screen display image 52 is displayed on the screen 41 a, this being overlapped by an actual main image 51 on the screen 41 a, as shown in FIG. 7.

If the user of the display device 40 rotates the housing counterclockwise to the left through 90 ° about the axis of rotation along the arrow B, both the display panel 41 and the screen display system 10 mounted in the housing 42 are also rotated. At this time, the inclination angle of the shorter side 42a of the housing 40 with respect to the direction of gravity G (ie, the vertical direction) detected by the gravity sensor 1 of the screen display system 10 increases continuously from 0 ° to 90 °. In this way, the amplitude or level of the inclination angle signal S1 output from the sensor 1 gradually increases with the increasing value of the inclination angle thus detected (step 101 ).

As soon as the rotation angle data generating circuit 2 receives the inclination angle signal S1 thus supplied, it judges whether the value of the inclination angle of the screen 41 a is equal to one of the predetermined values 0 °, 90 °, 180 ° or 270 ° on the basis of the received in this way Signal is S1 or not. If the value of the inclination angle approaches a specific value of approximately 90 °, the circuit 2 supplies the rotation angle data corresponding to the specific angle of 90 ° to the on-screen display font control circuit 3 using the rotation angle data signal S2 (step 102 ).

Anschließend liefert der Schaltkreis 3 die somit erzeugten, um 90° gedrehten Bildschirmanzeige- Schriftdaten an den Bildschirmanzeige-Bilddatenerzeugerschalt kreis 4 mit Hilfe des Bildschirmanzeige-Schriftdatensignals S4 (Schrift 103).The screen display font control circuit 3 generates, upon receipt of the rotation angle data signal S2 a set of abgebil Deten bit data (ie, the 90 ° rotated-screen display font data), which have been a rotated on the surface of the screen 41 at the angle of 90 ° by the comparison font data from the comparison font data memory 11 and the font S3 determining signal used by the display device 40 . Subsequently, the circuit 3 supplies the thus generated, rotated by 90 ° screen display font data to the screen display image data generating circuit 4 using the screen display font data signal S4 (font 103 ).

In order to completely generate the data for a rotated screen display image 52, the above-described font data generation process of the screen display font control circuit 3 can be performed once or, if necessary, repeated several times.

Then, the circuit 4 supplies the display image signal S6 (step 104 ) generated in this way to 90 ° rotated display image data to the display signal mixer circuit 5 .

In addition, the on-screen signal mixer circuit 5 receives the rotated on-screen image data generated by the circuit 4 using the signal S6, and at the same time receives the rotated main image data on the video input signal S5 from the control unit (not shown) of the field 41 , thereby merging the two data (step 105 ). In this way, the circuit 5 generates the result image data to be displayed on the screen 41 a, the video output signal S7 rotated by 90 ° being generated (step 106 ).

The generated in this way with the help of the above-described process steps 101 to 106 , 90 ° rotated video output signal S7 is then forwarded to the control unit of the display panel 41 , whereby the 90 ° rotated screen display image 52 'together with the 90 ° rotated main image 51 'on the 90 ° rotated screen 41 a in the portrait alignment, as shown in Fig. 8, is displayed. The content of the screen display image 52 'rotated by 90 ° is identical to that of the original screen display image 52 . The content of the main image 51 'rotated by 90 ° is essentially identical to that of the original main image 51 .

The same process as described above for the angle of rotation of 90 ° takes place if the angle of rotation is approximately equal to 180 ° or 270 °. If the user rotates the screen axis 41 a to the right in the clockwise direction about the pivot, the same operation is carried out as above, except that the rotation angle to 0 °, -90 °. -180 ° or -270 ° is set.

In the screen display system 10 according to the first embodiment, the gravity sensor 1 detects the inclination angle of the case 42 (ie, the screen 41 a), and then the rotation angle data generating circuit 2 generates the rotation angle data required. The on-screen display font control circuit 3 generates the rotated on-screen display font data according to the required rotation angle data generated by the circuit 2 . The on-screen display data generating circuit 4 generates the rotated on-screen display image data from the rotated on-screen display font data. The on-screen signal mixer circuit 5 mixes the rotated on-screen image data with the rotated main image data, thereby generating the rotated result image data including the rotated on-screen image data and the main image data.

Accordingly, the orientation of the screen display image 52 on the screen 41 a of the display panel 41 is automatically adjusted in accordance with the change in orientation of the housing 42 (ie the screen 41 a) of the display device 40 . This means that the operability of the display device 40 capable of changing its screen orientation is improved ver.

FIGS. 5 and 6 show a screen display system 10 A according to the second embodiment of the invention, which has the same arrangement as the display system 10 according to the first embodiment, che except Tatsa that the display font control circuit 3 in the system 10 by the screen display Control unit 23 is replaced. For this reason, the explanation of the same arrangement is omitted here for the sake of simplifying the description, the same reference numerals being used in the arrangement as in the system 10 for the same components in FIG. 5.

As shown in FIG. 6, the screen display control unit 23 has a font data memory 31 and a font data selector 32 . The font data selector receives the font-determining signal S3 that is sent from outside the screen display device 10 (e.g., from the controller of the display device 40 ).

The font data memory 31 stores four sets of font data (ie, the mapped bit data) for the non-rotated (ie, rotated 0 °), 90 ° rotated, 180 ° rotated, and 270 ° rotated positions in Ahead. The memory 31 supplies one of the four sets of the font data for the positions rotated by 0 °, rotated by 90 °, rotated by 180 ° and rotated by 270 ° according to the font data selection signal S32 supplied by the font data selector 32 . The selected set of font data is forwarded to the selector 32 using the font data signal S31.

The font data selector 32 sends the font data selection signal S32 to the memory 31 based on the rotation angle signal S2 from the rotation angle data generating circuit 2 and the font data selection signal S3 from outside the system 10 A. As soon as the selector 32 the selected set of font data from the memory 31 , the selector 32 supplies the font data to the on-screen pattern generation circuit 4 using the on-screen display data signal S4.

The operation of the gravity or tilt angle sensor 1 , the rotation angle data generator 2 , the on-screen font control circuit 3 , the on-screen image data control circuit 4 and the on-screen signal mixer circuit 5 (ie, steps 101 to 103 in Fig. 4) is the same Operation described above in the first embodiment. For this reason, only the operation of the screen display control unit 23 will be described here.

As soon as the on-screen display control unit 23 receives the rotation angle sigal S2 and the signal S3 determining the font, the control unit 23 selectively outputs one of the four sets of font data for the rotated 0 °, rotated 90 °, rotated 180 ° and 270 ° rotated position, which are stored in the memory 31 in accordance with the signals S2 and S3, on the screen display data generator 4 . For example, if the housing 42 is rotated by 90 °, as has already been shown in the first embodiment, the control unit 23 selects the set of font data for the position rotated by 90 ° and outputs the same.

Then, the on-screen display image data generating circuit 4 generates the 90 ° rotated on-screen display image data by using the thus selected set of the font data, and then supplies the data thus generated to the on-screen display mixer circuit 5 using the on-screen display Image data signal S6 (step 104 ).

The following steps 105 to 106 are identical to those in the first embodiment.

The result video output signal S7 thus generated by the process steps 101 to 106 described above is then supplied to the control unit of the display panel 41 , as a result of which the 90 ° rotated screen display image 52 ′ together with the rotated 90 ° main 51 'is on the ge 90 ° turned screen 41a displayed in the portrait orientation as it has been illustrated in Fig. 8.
