Description

Anwendungsgebiet der ErfindungField of application of the invention

The invention is applicable to the production of high quality specialty carbon black as needed in the rubber, tire, printing ink, battery and other industries.

Charakteristik des bekannten Standes der TechnikCharacteristic of the known state of the art

Processes for carbon black production are known in large numbers. Accordingly, the breadth of the chemical-physical properties and thus the possible use of the carbon blacks is correspondingly different. In particular, the proportion and the orientation of the crystallitic soot zones differ in relation to the amorphous fraction in the carbon black. These are in particular responsible for the suitability or unsuitability of the carbon blacks for a particular application. So it is z. B. known that the degree of crystallinity of a carbon black to a great extent the adsorptive and thus the substitutability, z. B. as Batterieruß influenced. In addition, the nature of the C-C bond in carbon black (aliphatic, cyclic structure, single or multiple bond) is also attributed to influence on the carbon black properties.

So there are very different manufacturing processes that produce carbon blacks for different purposes. Thus, there are a variety of methods that produce by combustion of hydrocarbons and injections of other hydrocarbons in the hot combustion gases soot (DE-OS 2752099, DE-OS 1592853, DE-OS 2944855). Other methods (channel method) are based on that a hydrocarbon (eg natural gas) is burned in an open flame, which is directed to cooled surfaces (eg rotating rollers), wherein the soot is deposited (DE-OS 2405536 , DE-OS 2931907).

Andere Verfahren erzeugen Ruß durch Teilverbrennungen und Pyrolyse (DE-AS 2100792, DE-OS 2123090, DD-PS 258823, DD-PS 248369, DD-PS 207000, DD-PS 108109).Other processes produce soot by partial combustion and pyrolysis (DE-AS 2100792, DE-OS 2123090, DD-PS 258823, DD-PS 248369, DD-PS 207000, DD-PS 108109).

Also known is the use of catalytic soot-producing processes in which active gas soot is to be produced and produced by burning city gas, injecting liquid hydrocarbons into the hot combustion gases and catalytically reacting in the presence of copper or copper compounds. All of these methods work on the basis of energy production in the process by burning fossil fuels. They have the disadvantage that although active carbon blacks can be produced, they do not possess the high quality properties characteristic of acetylene blacks which are the highest quality carbon blacks. In the known acetylene-soot process, with which very high-quality carbon blacks are produced, acetylene is brought to disintegration in an oxygen-free endothermic flame reaction. However, this method has the disadvantage that under considerable technical expenses (use of valuable raw materials, multistage processes, high expenditure of living work, hoho environmental pollution) first a pure, chemically homogeneous starting material (acetylene) must be produced, which ultimately the purity of a second Process to be produced soot guaranteed.

Furthermore, a method is known from DD-PS 100487, which operates on the basis of the pyrolysis of crude hydrocarbons in a plasma. The disadvantage of this method is that the quality of the resulting carbon blacks is not influenced and subject to strong fluctuations and usually strong graphitized shares are present, which make the carbon black inactive.

Folgende Nachteile haften dem Verfahren an:Another method based on a plasma is known from OE-AS 1592856. With this method, it is possible to produce amorphous carbon blacks. The following disadvantages are inherent in the method:

For the procedure, use may be made of plasma gases which do not react with carbon at high temperature, i. H. expensive noble gases.

It is a very high temperature necessary (> 6000 K), which entails both high energy demand and high load on the equipment and equipment.

At high temperatures impurities of the solid carbon feedstock (also inorganic) are converted to the gas phase and contaminate the soot.

For the operation of the process, it is possible to use pure, pure carbon materials (eg inferior carbon blacks) (for example, a carbon content of> 90% is required), which must first be prepared in complex previous processes.

Necessary for the process is also the use of halogens (chlorine, bromine) in the process to achieve the amorphous Strul.tur of carbon blacks by chemical additives in this form. The handling of chlorine or bromine causes difficulties in the operation of the process, material and environmental problems and complex separation stages.

Another disadvantage of this solution is that the carbonaceous raw material must be almost free of water.

Ziel der ErfindungObject of the invention

The object of the invention is therefore a simple process for the production of high quality carbon black having the properties of soot obtained by the autothermal acetylene flame process from cheaper gaseous or liquid hydrocarbons and / or comparatively inferior carbon blacks.

Darlegung des Wesens der ErfindungExplanation of the essence of the invention

The object of the invention is to provide a process for producing high-quality carbon black in a process step which prevents the phenomena which lead to the inactivation of the carbon black, to reduce the adsorptive capacity and to reduce its electrical conductivity, and which ensures that an adsorption capacity of at least 30 ml / 5g carbon black (acetone-water method) is achieved. The object is achieved in that a liquid or gaseous hydrocarbon and / or comparatively inferior carbon black is reacted as starting material in a known manner by means of a plasma to carbon black and hydrogen. The special feature is that db: o feedstock is supplied with a specific enthalpy of at least 3 kWh / kg feedstock and at most 8kWh / kg feedstock, followed by a minimum reaction time of 0.1 to 1.0s in a plasma reactor that is so well thermally insulated in that no substantial quenching takes place in its land zone, and subsequently the plasma is subjected to slow cooling with a cooling rate of at most 500 K / s. In this case, the feed can be passed directly into the arc zone of the plasma generator and used as plasma carrier gas or entered into a plasma jet with argon and / or hydrogen as plasma carrier gas or partially introduced directly into the arc zone of the plasma generator and partly after the arc zone in the plasma jet. However, it may also be advantageous to use a portion of the hydrocarbon together with argon and / or hydrogen as a plasma carrier gas for plasma formation and to introduce the remaining hydrocarbon after the arc zone in the plasma jet. To understand the operation of the method must be assumed that only the knowledge had to be obtained, which physicochemical processes cause that not every soot produced in the plasma has application technology favorable properties and none of the special properties of qualitatively highly estimated carbon black, based on acetone be achieved, although when using z. For example, natural gas as a raw material in principle all the prerequisites exist because the material conversion is the chain methane -> acetylene - * soot in the plasma and thus there is a far-reaching procedural analogy to the conventional acetylene-soot method.

Die geringe Adsorptionsfähigkeit dieser Ruße resultiert also daraus, daß die aktiven (adsorptionsfähigen) Zentren blockiert si.id.In addition to the well-known fact that the degree of crystallinity (ratio of amorphous / crystalline properties) influences the properties of carbon blacks, it has been discovered that the crucial role of property control is attributed to the abundant hydrocarbon fractions and hydrocarbons produced in the plasma from the raw materials in the gas phase in each case prevailing plasma temperatures are adsorbed in situ on the resulting carbon black in the reaction phase hydrocarbon »acetylene. At the usual residence times in the plasma at the pyrolysis ve * at most 10 ~ 3 s, these hydrocarbons and hydrocarbon fragments inside the solid soot particles are chemically no longer changed and are retained. The low adsorption capacity of these carbon blacks therefore results from the fact that the active (adsorptive) centers are blocked si.id.

Furthermore, the electrical conductivity of the carbon blacks deviates from the value of the pure carbon, since different hydrocarbons and hydrocarbon fragments change the conductivity of the basic matrix upwards or downwards.

Based on these findings, the inventive method has been developed, which eliminates the now known, the direct synthesis of high-quality acetylene-adequate carbon blacks counteracting negative phenomena. The hydrocarbon to be used as a raw material (inferior and thus cheaper than acetyl) or inferior soot is first brought to plasma temperature, while a specific enthalpy of at least 3 kWh / kg input material is supplied, which guarantees that at least a portion of the carbon as gaseous carbon ( sublimated). As a result, both the level and the duration of the appearance of intermediate hydrocarbons in the kinetic process are kept very limited and prevented their occurrence in a significant amount over a longer period of time. On the other hand, a limitation of the enthalpy to a maximum of 8kWh / kg is required, because it was found that the soot is lost otherwise in the form of pyrolysis coke for the solution of the problem and hinders the further process.

Die erfindungsgemäß nach dem Aufheizprozeß realisierte, für plasmachemische Pyrolyseprozesse mit Kohlenwasserstoffen sehr lange Verweilzeit von >0,1 s gewährleistet den sicheren Zerfall aller intermediären Kohlenwasserstoffprodukte, auchThe inventively after the heating process realized for plasma-chemical pyrolysis with hydrocarbons very long residence time of> 0.1 s ensures the safe decomposition of all intermediate hydrocarbon products, too

Beispiel 1example 1 In einer 30-kW-Plasmaanlage zur Erzeugung von Ruß werden 7 NmVh Erdgas (trocken) mit folgender ZusammensetzungIn a 30 kW plasma plant for the production of soot 7 NmVh of natural gas (dry) with the following composition

eingesetzt.used.

CH4 CH 4 - 83,33- 83.33 C2 C 2 - 0,84- 0.84 C,C., - 0,25- 0.25 ArAr - 1,67- 1.67 N2 N 2 - 4,08- 4.08 H2 H 2 - 8,87- 8,87 CO2 CO 2 - 0,08- 0.08 NH3 NH 3 - 0,84- 0.84

Based on the net power of the plasmatron η = 80% 5kWh / kg energy are supplied to the feedstock, which leads to a heating of the same to a temperature below 4000 K. This leads to a reaction sequence via the intermediates CH 4 -> CH 3 -> C 2 H 8 -> C 2 H 4 -> C 2 H 2 and ultimately as the final stage of the chain to form carbon black and hydrogen. This process known from acetylene synthesis from methane is characterized in that, according to the enthalpy chosen, a considerable part of the CH 3 radicals does not first lead to strongly known formation of ethane in the initial step, as is always known in the reaction of methane under Plasic acid undergo a strong dehydrogenation CH 3 -> CH 2 -> CH -> C -> H 2 at this stage, which leads to the evolution of the chain CH 4 -> CH 3 -> C 2 H 8 -> C 2 H 4 - > C 2 H 2 interrupts, so that this follow-up process produces only minor concentrations of hydrocarbons. The method is therefore characterized by application of the first method step according to the invention by greatly reduced hydrocarbon formation. In the present example, the reactive plasma now flows through a plasma reactor, which has a diameter of 90 mm and a length of 1000 mm and is lined with thermal insulation with graphite, with another layer between the graphite and the outer steel jacket for thermal insulation. This prevents premature quenching of the reactive plasma and recombination of the radicals present in the degradation to carbon black and hydrogen in the initial step. The residence time in the plasma reactor according to the invention is designed so that traces of hydrocarbons are cracked safely in the gas phase and the forming soot particles are heated to the completion of the process to its center to temperatures above 1500 ° C, resulting in a cleavage of the active carbon centers adsorbed hydrocarbons leads. Following the plasma reactor, the reactive plasma, consisting predominantly of hydrogen, gaseous and desublimed carbon and residual radicals, is cooled relatively slowly in a double tube heat exchanger at a cooling rate of 600 ... 700 K / s. This leads to the decomposition of the remaining radicals present in the gas phase and a slow desublimation of the gaseous carbon components without the formation of hydrocarbons. The carbon black produced in this way according to the invention has an electrical conductivity in the range of 0.70 cm -1 and an adsorption capacity of 30-45 ml / 5 g of carbon black using a 90% strength acetone / water mixture customary for this test With this consistency, the properties of conventional high quality battery and tire blacks such as those obtained from the acetylene flame process by the exothermic reaction of pure acetylene or hydrocarbon mixtures containing predominantly acetylene are obtained.

A resulting from a plasma pyrolysis of methane and other lower hydrocarbons for the production of acetyl forcibly accumulating carbon black, which has no adsorption capacity in studies for the adsorption of a 90% acetone-water mixture (ball method) (0ml / 5g carbon black) and an electrical conductivity far below 0.5 OCm ' 1 is introduced together with a trailing gas in a plasmatron as plasma carrier gas and acted upon by an energy of 4 kWh / kg of soot. Subsequently, a residence time of 0.2 s is realized in an adiabatic reactor and the reactive plasma is slowly cooled after this reaction time in an indirect heat exchanger at 500 K / s. The carbon black recovered from the gas stream by cyclonization and fabric filter deposition has acetylene black properties after this treatment. Thus, the adsorption capacity (a, value) is above 30 ml / (5 g carbon black) acetone-water mixture, the electrical conductivity at 0.7 OCm -1 and the density in the range of the density of typical branded carbon blacks (approx 40 kg / m 3 ).
