Abstract

Η παρούσα εφεύρεση αφορά κάποιο in vitro σύστημα δροσόφιλας (Drosophila) το οποίο χρησιμοποιήθηκε για να αποδειχθεί ότι dsRΝΑ έχει μετατραπεί σε τμήματα RΝΑ μήκους 21-23 νουκλεοτιδίων (nt). The use of these fragments (or chemically synthesized oligonucleotides of the same or similar nature) allows targeting of specific mRNAs intended for degradation in mammalian cells, where the use of long dsRNAs to release RNAs is usually not practical because of response to interferon. This specific targeting of a particular gene function is useful in therapeutic applications and functions of the genome.
