Dosud jsou známy dva způsoby přípravy fotografií s efektem olejomalby. Při prvním z nich se používá rastrů se vzorem plátna, které jsou při zvětšování spojeny s negativem nebo s fotografickým papírem či s velkoplošným diapozitivním materiálem. Postupem podle vynálezu se dají zhotovit černobílé i barevné fotografie či velkoplošné černobílé nebo barevné diapozitivy z běžných černobílých nebo z běžných barevných negativů.
