Claims (10)

1. A commodity safety device adopting contact PIN power supply is characterized by comprising
A display assembly and a base, the display assembly and the base being capable of being joined and separated;
the display assembly is configured to be attachable to the item of merchandise, the display assembly including a first magnetically attractive member and a first electrical contact PIN;
the base is operable to support the merchandise and/or the display assembly, the base includes a first charging interface including a second electrical contact PIN, the base, display assembly, first charging interface and second electrical contact PIN are configured such that upon engagement of the display assembly and the base, the first charging interface is operable to automatically move the second electrical contact PIN from a non-aligned orientation to an aligned orientation to align with and provide electrical communication with the first electrical contact PIN in response to magnetic attraction of a first magnetic member;
the merchandise security device is configured such that when the display assembly and the base are engaged, the base is capable of transmitting power to the display assembly.
2. The contact PIN powered merchandise security device of claim 1, wherein the second electrical contact PIN is configured to be resilient.
3. The contact PIN powered merchandise security device of claim 1, wherein the first charging interface is movable within the confines of the base.
4. The contact PIN powered merchandise security device of claim 1, wherein the first charging interface comprises a second magnetically attractive member configured to attract the first magnetically attractive member.
5. The merchandise security device of claim 1, wherein the first electrical contact PIN is configured to draw power from the base for powering the display assembly and/or the merchandise.
6. The contact PIN powered merchandise security device of claim 1, wherein the display member and the base are configured to communicate via wireless signals to communicate security signals.
7. A contact PIN powered merchandise security device according to claim 1, wherein the display member and/or base comprises an alert means configured to issue a security signal or alarm in response to a merchandise security event.
8. The merchandise security device of claim 1, wherein the display assembly comprises a battery.
9. The contact PIN powered merchandise security device of claim 1, wherein the base is configured to be connected to a remote power source for obtaining operating power.
10. The contact PIN powered merchandise security device of claim 7, including a first communication interface for said alarm means to disarm in response to an alarm disarm signal.
