Abstract

发明的背景
1.技术领域
本发明涉及电子邮件系统,尤其涉及用于诸如个人数字助理(PDA)和蜂窝电话的移动设备的电子邮件系统,其使得电子邮件消息能够通过媒体播放器被作为话音消息来回放。
2.背景技术
许多电子邮件系统具有将电子邮件消息转换以回放为话音消息的能力。在题为“Email Text-to Speech Conversion in Sender’s Voice(电子邮件文本到发送者话音的语音转换)”的公开号为US 2007/0174396A1的美国专利申请公开了这样的系统的一个示例。除了将电子邮件消息转换为话音消息之外,在‘396公开文本中公开的系统也能够以发送者的话音来回放消息。如同在‘396公开文本中所图示和描述的,在其中所公开的系统包括统一的消息系统和包括文本到语音引擎的用户设备。由于诸如个人数字助理(PDA)和蜂窝电话的移动设备通常不具有用于操纵文本到语音引擎的处理能力,这样的配置排除了在这样的移动设备上使用电子邮件消息到话音消息的功能。而且,如上所述,在‘396公开文本中公开的系统需要统一消息系统来运行。因此,该系统在不包括统一消息系统的系统中的应用中是不可用的。

发明内容
简言之,本发明涉及用于诸如PDA和蜂窝电话的移动设备的电子邮件系统,其允许在用户的移动设备收到电子邮件消息时识别所述电子邮件消息并接着将所述电子邮件消息发送到服务器以转换到可听格式并进而将所述消息发送回用户的移动设备;将所述电子邮件消息通知用户并接着通过媒体播放器向用户按需回放所述消息。因此,根据本发明的系统为PDA和蜂窝电话提供了增强的功能性,同时该系统与已知的文本到语音电子邮件回放系统相比要不复杂得多,因而更为低廉。

具体实施方式
本发明涉及用于诸如蜂窝电话和PDA的移动设备的电子邮件系统,其允许由电子邮件客户端发送的电子邮件消息在移动设备上通过媒体播放器被作为话音消息按需回放,而不需要统一消息系统。如以下将详细描述的,移动设备以已知的方式接收电子邮件消息。根据本发明的一个重要的方面,电子邮件消息在其被接收到时被移动设备识别。在消息被识别后,移动设备将文本格式的电子邮件消息发送到服务器以转换到语音或话音格式。在消息被转换到语音格式后,服务器将消息作为音频文件发送回用户的移动设备,或替选地将消息存储在服务器处。在这两个实施例中,服务器将电子邮件消息通知用户并接着通过常规的媒体播放器向用户按需回放相应的话音消息。
如图1所示,被概括地识别为附图标记20的根据本发明的系统包括移动设备20和服务器22。电子邮件客户端23被示出为正在发起电子邮件。电子邮件客户端23并不构成本发明的一部分。客户端侧软件组件驻留在诸如蜂窝电话或类似的移动无线设备的移动设备22上。服务器侧软件组件驻留在服务器24上。移动设备22和服务器24包括收发器(未示出),其使得设备能够通过无线通信链路25进行双向通信。
客户端侧软件组件
客户端侧组件能够以客户端侧的硬件能支持的语言来编写,诸如C++、Symbian、Java、Linux等。客户端侧组件包括应用接口,所述应用接口可以包括各种用户可配置功能,诸如启用和禁用系统的能力。这允许用户对于应用程序在何时监听电子邮件消息是可选择的。另外的用户可配置功能可以包括音频回放的音量、以及诸如用于回放的话音(例如:男声或女声)、带有或不带有地方方言、或要播放的数据(例如发件人和主题;所有域;主题和正文等)等功能。系统还可以包括语言功能以使得用户能够将消息转换到另一个语言以及男声或女声的话音。这些功能的实现完全在本领域的普通技术范围中。客户端侧配置系统还可以被配置为自动将数据发送回签约或计费应用(subscription and billing application),所述签约或计费应用可以被包括为模块套件的一部分,所述模块套件形成服务器软件组件以管理活动的签约。
除了配置工具之外,客户端侧软件组件以等待进入消息的监听器应用或服务的形式运行后台进程。当监听器接收到关于诸如SMS、PIN电子邮件或标准电子邮件的消息的通知时,监听器打开该消息,并提取该消息的报头信息以获得发件人信息、主题行以及该消息的正文。监听器应用将该数据与特定于设备的识别符(例如客户端设备的电话号码)相组合。该信息接着被自动发送到服务器22。
移动设备22中的客户端侧软件组件确定数据是否已经被正确地发送到服务器24。如果是,移动设备22则等待告知其去拾取特定于设备的格式的语音数据的响应。当服务器侧组件告知客户端侧软件组件语音数据可以获得时,客户端侧软件组件从服务器24提取数据。替选地,服务器软件组件将语音数据自动地发送回移动设备22。在任一种情况下,在从服务器接收到转换后的消息时移动设备22可以可选地添附通知音。如果需要,通过例如外部扬声器、内部的手机扬声器或经由耦接到移动设备22的蓝牙或有线耳机来回放该消息。
客户端侧软件组件另外可以提供转换后的电子邮件的可视通知。例如,客户端侧应用可以包括按需功能,其中用户从菜单项中选择电子邮件用于回放。替选地,移动设备用户可以选择仅将选定的电子邮件转换到语音。在这样的实施例中,电子邮件被作为文本消息由移动设备以常规的方式接收。在本实施例中,所有的电子邮件没有被自动地转换到语音。更确切地,系统被配置为使得用户能够选择个体消息用于转换到语音。例如,可以提供“朗读该消息(Narrate this Message)”菜单项,并且当其被选择时,客户端侧组件遵循以上与客户端侧监听器应用相关联地一起被描述的相同的过程,并且发送该消息用于回放。
服务器侧软件组件
服务器侧软件组件被概括地示出在虚线框26中(图2)。服务器侧软件组件包括数据监听器应用26、上下文引擎28、文本到语音引擎30和存储介质32。
数据监听器应用26从如上所述的客户端侧应用接收电子邮件文本数据。数据监听器应用26将电子邮件文本数据从移动设备22客户端侧应用转发到上下文引擎用于过滤,如以下所述。数据监听器应用26也可以负责管理签约以及验证用户和用户请求,如以上所述。
上下文引擎28将从移动设备22接收的电子邮件中的数据“规范化”。例如,上下文引擎28可以被用来将电子邮件地址和转发文本和先前的答复电子邮件文本转换到省去数据的规范化的可听数据。此外,上下文引擎28可以包括各种过滤器,用于过滤各种类型的文本。例如,可以提供过滤器来移除不能被转换到对应的语音成分的字符,诸如破折号、星号、标点符号、非标准的字符和用于答复细节的线条。上下文引擎28还可以被配置为过滤与用户不相关的电子邮件信息,例如:缩写,诸如Re,转发(FWD),附件信息等。以及经审查的内容。在本领域中文本过滤器是公知的,例如在公布号为US 2007/0233861 A1的美国专利申请中所概括地描述的,其在此以引用的方式并入。
一旦上下文引擎28已经完成了对包括在来自移动设备22的电子邮件中的文本数据的规范化后,经规范化的文本数据被传递到文本到语音(“TTS”)引擎30。这样的TTS引擎在本领域中是公知的。接着TTS引擎30能够被指令来选择特定的TTS话音,例如,男声或女声话音,或几乎是包括如上所述的话音的任何话音,以将该文本转换到该特定的TTS话音,如以上所述用户所选择的,并且将其传递到服务器侧软件组件以用于该目的。服务器侧软件组件还能够被指令来在使该数据通过TTS引擎之前将文本从一种语言转换到另一种语言。这允许个体电子邮件被翻译为用户的本族语,即使该电子邮件来自说不同的语言的用户。
应用示例
在图2中图示了一个应用示例,其是根据本发明的示例性数据流图。该示例并非意在以任何方式来另外限制本发明的范围。参照图2,电子邮件被发送到移动设备用户。文本形式的电子邮件最初由服务器24以常规形式接收并例如通过无线通信链路34自动地转发到移动设备22上的监听应用。如上所提及的,在移动设备22上的监听应用打开该电子邮件并提取报头信息,并将某些报头信息与诸如移动设备22的电话号码的用于移动设备22的特定于设备的识别符相组合,并且自动地将该信息返回到服务器24。服务器24上的监听器应用26执行对连接、连接数据和被转送的用户信息的验证。一旦数据被验证后,所述数据被转递到上下文引擎28用于规范化。在所述文本数据被规范化后,其被导引至TTS引擎30,在该处其被转换为语音数据并转换成常规的音频文件格式,诸如WAV、MP3或其它音频文件格式。一旦数据被转换成音频文件,其被载入到文件夹32,所述文件夹32位于服务器24处或可选地位于移动设备22处。服务器24还通知移动设备22该音频文件可用于回放了。用户接着能够通过移动设备22中的常规的媒体播放器经耦接到移动设备22的扬声器、耳机单元或蓝牙设备来收听该音频文件。
显然,基于以上教导,本发明的许多修改和变化都是可能的。因此,应当理解,在所附的权利要求的范围内,可以用与以上具体描述所不同的其它方式来实现本发明。
所要求保护并期待由专利证书确保的范围是权利要求书所限定的范围。
Claims (3)
1.一种电子邮件系统,用于使得电子邮件消息能够被移动设备作为话音消息回放,所述系统包括:
服务器,所述服务器被配置为接收文本格式的电子邮件并将所述文本格式转换为音频文件;以及
移动设备,所述移动设备包括媒体播放器,所述移动设备被配置为接收所述音频文件并且通过所述媒体播放器能选择地回放所述音频文件。
2.如权利要求1所述的电子邮件系统,其中,所述移动设备是蜂窝电话。
3.如权利要求1所述的电子邮件系统,其中,所述移动设备是个人数字助理。
