Description

等离子体显示装置及其驱动方法 
技术领域
本发明涉及等离子体显示装置及其驱动方法。 
背景技术
等离子体显示装置是一种使用等离子体显示面板(PDP)的显示装置,该等离子体显示面板用于通过经由气体放电所产生的等离子体来显示字符或图像。 
通过将一帧划分为多个子场来驱动等离子体显示装置,多个子场中的每一个都具有亮度权重值,并且,该等离子体显示装置通过子场的权重值的组合来显示灰度级。因此,通过使用多个子场的组合执行显示操作。在每一个子场的寻址时段期间,扫描脉冲被顺序地施加到多个扫描电极,以及当扫描脉冲被施加到扫描电极时,寻址脉冲被选择性地施加到多个寻址电极,以便选择发光单元或不发光单元。寻址放电发生在与施以扫描脉冲的扫描电极和施以寻址脉冲的寻址电极相对应的单元中。 
当随着扫描脉冲被施加到一个扫描电极而选择大量的发光单元时,寻址脉冲被施加到与发光单元相对应的多个寻址电极。从而,放电电流增加,并产生较多的电磁干扰(EMI)。因此,为了分散放电电流并减少EMI,在不同时间点将寻址脉冲施加到与发光单元相对应的寻址电极。但是,在稍后及时施加寻址脉冲的单元中,可能发生低放电。具体来说,在壁电荷(wallcharge)未充分形成的低灰度级的子场中发生低放电的可能性增加。

发明内容
本发明的示范性实施例提供一种等离子体显示装置及其驱动方法。当将寻址脉冲在不同的时间点施加到发光单元的寻址电极时,该等离子体显示装 置能够减少低放电。 
本发明的一个示范性实施例公开了一种通过将一帧划分为多个子场来驱动等离子体显示装置的方法。该等离子体显示装置包括多个扫描电极和与该多个扫描电极交叉的多个寻址电极。根据该方法,在多个子场的第一子场中,将第一扫描脉冲施加到多个扫描电极中的一个扫描电极;当在第一子场中正在将第一扫描脉冲施加到第一扫描电极的同时,在将第一寻址脉冲施加到多个寻址电极的第一寻址电极之后将第二寻址脉冲施加到多个寻址电极中的第二寻址电极;在多个子场的第二子场中,将第二扫描脉冲施加到扫描电极,第二子场的权重值低于第一子场的权重值;当在第二子场中正在将第二扫描脉冲施加到扫描电极的同时,分别将第三和第四寻址脉冲同时施加到第一和第二寻址电极,其中,所述第一寻址脉冲的结束点与所述第二寻址脉冲的结束点相同,以及所述第三寻址脉冲的结束点与所述第四寻址脉冲的结束点相同。

如图1中所示,根据本发明的示范性实施例的等离子显示装置包括等离子体显示面板100、控制器200、寻址电极驱动器300、维持电极驱动器400和扫描电极驱动器500。 
等离子体显示面板100包括多个沿列方向延伸的寻址电极A1~Am(此后,称为“A电极”)以及多个沿行方向延伸的成对的维持电极X1~Xn(此后,称为“X电极”)和扫描电极Y1~Yn(此后,称为“Y电极”)。通常,X电极X1~Xn与各个Y电极Y1~Yn相对应地形成,并且X电极X1~Xn和Y电极Y1~Yn在维持时段期间执行操作,以便显示图像。Y电极Y1~Yn和X电极X1~Xn布置为与A电极A1~Am交叉。多个扫描线由在寻址时段施以扫描脉冲的Y电极Y1~Yn来限定,以及寻址线由施以寻址脉冲的A电极A1~Am来限定。此外,存在于A电极A1~Am以及X和Y电极X1~Xn和Y1~Yn的交叉区域的放电位置形成放电单元110。PDP 100的结构示出一个示范性PDP,以及可施以这里所描述的驱动波形的具有不同结构的面板也可以应用于本发明中。

如图2中所示,在寻址时段期间,为了在每一个子场中从多个放电单元中选择发光单元和非发光单元,维持电极驱动器400将X电极的电压维持在电压Ve,以及扫描电极驱动器500和寻址电极驱动器300将具有电压VscL的扫描脉冲和具有电压Va的寻址脉冲分别施加到Y电极和A电极。此外,扫描电极驱动器500将高于电压VscL的电压VscH施加到未选中Y电极,以及寻址电极驱动器300将地电压施加到非发光单元的A电极。

再参照图3,根据权重值将多个子场划分为两个子场组。当在具有低权 重值的第一子场组的每一个寻址时段将扫描脉冲施加到扫描电极Y1的同时,寻址电极驱动器300将寻址脉冲同时施加到A电极A1~A3。另外,当在具有高权重值(例如,比第一子场组的权重值高的权重值)的第二子场组的每一个寻址时段将扫描脉冲施加到扫描电极Y1时,寻址电极驱动器300在不同时间将寻址脉冲施加到A电极A1~A3。 
具体地,在第二子场组的每一个寻址时段,当将扫描脉冲施加到Y电极Y1时,寻址电极驱动器300将A电极A1的电压从电压0V变化到电压Va,并且在时间间隔t1(例如,预定的时间间隔)之后,将A电极A2的电压从电压0V变化到电压Va,该时间间隔从将Y电极Y1的电压从电压VscH变化到电压VscL的起始点处开始。此外,在时间间隔t2(例如,预定的时间间隔)之后,寻址电极驱动器300将A电极A3的电压从电压0V变化到电压Va,该时间间隔从将Y电极Y1的电压从电压VscH变化到电压VscL的起始点处开始。另外,寻址电极驱动器300将A电极A1~A3的电压同时从电压Va变化到电压0V。 
通常,由于在第一子场组的每一个子场中的维持脉冲的数量小于在第二子场组的每一个子场中的维持脉冲的数量,因而在单元中未充分形成壁电荷。因此,当在不同时间将寻址脉冲施加到A电极A1~A3时,在扫描电极Y1和A电极A3之间会发生低放电,其中寻址脉冲被施加到A电极A3晚于A电极A1和A2。 
然而,由于施加到具有高权重值的第二子场组的每一子场中的维持脉冲的数量大于施加到第一子场组的每一个子场中的维持脉冲的数量,因而在单元中充分地形成壁电荷。因此,即使当寻址脉冲在不同时间施加到A电极A1~A3,也存在降低将要发生在扫描电极Y1和A电极A3之间的低放电的可能性,该A电极A3在第二子场组的每一个子场的每一个寻址时段被施加以延迟的寻址脉冲。 
另外,当在第二子场组的每个子场的每一寻址时段中将寻址脉冲同时施加到A电极A1~A3时,在单元中形成壁电荷,并且大的放电电流会产生大量的EMI。然而,即使在第一子场的每个子场的每一寻址时段中将寻址脉冲同时施加到A电极A1~A3,也会不产生EMI。 
因此,根据本发明的示范性实施例,在具有低权重值的第一子场组的每个子场的每一寻址时段中将寻址脉冲同时施加到A电极A1~A3,以及在具 有高权重值的第二子场的每个子场的每一寻址时段中将寻址脉冲在不同时间施加到A电极A1~A3。于是,可以解决或减少EMI和低放电问题。 
如图4中所示,寻址电极驱动器300包括多个寻址驱动集成电路310a和310b,以及多个寻址驱动集成电路310a和310b分别具有多个输出端。寻址驱动集成电路310a和310b的多个输出端分别连接到与输出端的数量相对应的A电极A1~Am。例如,寻址驱动集成电路310a的输出端可以分别与A电极A1~A256相耦接,以及寻址驱动集成电路310b的输出端可以分别与A电极A257~A512相耦接。 
寻址驱动集成电路310a和310b将延迟的寻址脉冲顺序施加于耦接到多个输出端的多个寻址电极A1~Am。在图4所示的实施例中,寻址驱动集成电路310a的多个输出端分别与A电极A1~A256相耦接,以及寻址驱动集成电路310b的多个输出端分别与A电极A257~A512相耦接。依照以下将寻址脉冲施加到A电极A1~A512:寻址驱动集成电路310a和310b开始将寻址脉冲施加到A电极A1和A257;在时间间隔T1(例如,预定的时间间隔)之后,开始将寻址脉冲施加到A电极A2和A258;以及在时间间隔T2(例如,预定的时间间隔)之后,开始将寻址脉冲施加到A电极A3和A259。 
这个顺序继续贯穿其余的寻址电极A4至A255以及A260至A511,直到在时间间隔Tn(例如,预定的时间间隔)之后,寻址驱动电路310a和310b开始将寻址脉冲施加到A电极A256和A512。 
虽然已经结合当前被视为是实用的示范性实施例描述了本发明,但是应该理解,本发明并不限制于本公开的实施例,而是相反地,本发明旨在覆盖包含在所附权利要求和它们的等价物的精神和范围之内的各种修改和等价布置。 

Claims (7)

1.一种通过将一帧划分为多个子场来驱动等离子体显示装置的方法,所述等离子体显示装置包括多个扫描电极和与该多个扫描电极相交叉的多个寻址电极,所述方法包括:
在所述多个子场的第一子场中,将第一扫描脉冲施加到所述多个扫描电极中的一个扫描电极;
在所述第一子场中正在将所述第一扫描脉冲施加到所述扫描电极的同时,在将第一寻址脉冲施加到所述多个寻址电极中的第一寻址电极之后将第二寻址脉冲施加到所述多个寻址电极中的第二寻址电极;
在所述多个子场的第二子场中,将第二扫描脉冲施加到所述扫描电极,所述第二子场的权重值小于所述第一子场的权重值;以及
当在所述第二子场中正在将所述第二扫描电极施加到所述扫描电极的同时,分别将第三寻址脉冲和第四寻址脉冲同时施加到所述第一寻址电极和第二寻址电极,
其中,所述第一寻址脉冲的结束点与所述第二寻址脉冲的结束点相同,以及所述第三寻址脉冲的结束点与所述第四寻址脉冲的结束点相同。
2.根据权利要求1所述的方法,其中,所述第二寻址脉冲的起始点晚于所述第一寻址脉冲的起始点,以及所述第三寻址脉冲的起始点与所述第四寻址脉冲的起始点相同。
3.根据权利要求1所述的方法,其中,所述第一和第二寻址脉冲各自具有高电平电压和低电平电压,以及在所述第一子场中施加所述第二寻址脉冲包括:
在将所述第一寻址电极的电压从所述低电平电压变化到所述高电平电压之后,将所述第二寻址电极的电压从所述低电平电压变化到所述高电平电压;
将所述第一和第二寻址电极的电压维持在所述高电平电压;以及
将所述第一和第二寻址电极的电压同时从所述高电平电压变化到所述低电平电压。
4.一种驱动等离子体显示装置的方法,该等离子体显示装置包括位于多条扫描线和多个寻址电极之间的交叉区域的多个单元,所述方法包括:
在第一子场中,将第一扫描脉冲施加到所述多条扫描线中的一条扫描线;
当正在将所述第一扫描脉冲施加到所述扫描线的同时,将多个顺序延迟的寻址脉冲施加到所述多个单元;
在第二子场中,将第二扫描脉冲施加到所述扫描线,所述第二子场的权重值低于所述第一子场的权重值;以及
当正在将所述第二扫描脉冲施加到所述扫描线的同时,将多个寻址脉冲同时施加到所述多个单元,
其中,在所述第一子场中,所述多个顺序延迟的寻址脉冲的结束点相同。
5.根据权利要求4所述的方法,其中,在所述第一子场中,所述多个顺序延迟的寻址脉冲在由寻址驱动电路延迟后输出的,该寻址驱动电路输出所述多个顺序延迟的寻址脉冲。
6.一种等离子体显示装置,包括:
多个扫描电极;
多个寻址电极,其与所述多个扫描电极相交叉;
第一驱动器,用于将扫描脉冲施加到所述多个扫描电极中的一个扫描电极;
第二驱动器,当正在将所述扫描脉冲施加到所述扫描电极的同时,其将多个寻址脉冲施加到多个寻址电极;以及
控制器,用于将所述多个寻址脉冲的起始点设置为在包含于一帧中的多个子场中第一组的每一子场中是不同的,以及用于将所述多个寻址脉冲的起始点设置为在所述多个子场中第二组的每一个子场中是相同的,所述第二组具有的权重值小于所述第一组的权重值,
其中,所述控制器将所述多个寻址脉冲的结束点设置为在所述第一和第二组的每一个子场中是相同的。
7.根据权利要求6所述的等离子显示装置,其中,所述第二驱动器包括寻址驱动集成电路,该寻址驱动集成电路具有多个与所述多个寻址电极相耦接的输出端,所述寻址驱动集成电路由所述控制器来控制,
其中,所述寻址驱动集成电路被配置为在所述第一组的每一个子场中以延迟逐渐增加的开始时间的次序来输出寻址脉冲,以及在所述第二组的每一个子场中同时输出所述多个寻址脉冲。
