Abstract

Description

形成充气物品的设备和方法
技术领域
本发明涉及充气物品且更具体说来,涉及用于生产包装用充气垫的简化并改进的设备和方法。
背景技术
用于形成充气垫、枕垫或其它充气物品的各种设备和方法是已知的。充气垫用于通将产品包到气垫中并将所包好的产品置于装运箱中或简单地一或多个充气垫与将要装运的产品一起放置到装运箱内而对产品进行包装。气垫通过吸收在运输过程中原本可能完全传到所包装的产品上的冲击来保护所包装的产品以及限制所包装的产品在装运箱内的运动来进一步减小损坏产品的可能性。
用于形成充气垫的常规机器倾向于较大、较为昂贵而且很复杂。虽然近来已经发展了较小较便宜的吹袋机,但是这种机器生产气垫的速率低于原本期望的速率而且一般需要具有预成型容器的膜幅(film web)。即,这种较小、较不复杂的吹袋机的相对简单通常依靠使用可充气膜幅,其中很多容器生产操作已在放置到该机器上之前进行,因此吹袋机简单地使预成型的容器充气并且将其密封。虽然这种方法是有效的,但是预先转变的膜幅的生产和储存成本较高。此外,制造预成型容器过程中的变化可造成充气机/密封机中的对准和跟踪问题,导致充气不良及/或密封不良的气垫,这种气垫可能过早放气或由于其它原因不能保护所包装的产品。
因此,在此项技术中存在对于用于生产充气包装垫的更简单和更便宜的设备的需要,而且这种设备还以相对较高的速率生产气垫并且不需要具有预成型容器的膜幅。
发明内容
通过本发明来满足这些需要,本发明在一个方面提供用具有两个并列薄膜层的膜幅制造充气物品的设备,所述设备包括;
a.第一旋转密封装置,其用于产生将薄膜层结合在一起的横向密封;
b.充气组件,其用于在薄膜层之间引导气体;以及
c.第二旋转密封装置,其用于在薄膜层之间产生纵向密封。该纵向密封与该等横向密封相交使得在纵向密封、横向密封以及薄膜层之间封入气体从而形成充气物品。
本发明的另一方面涉及用具有两个并列薄膜层的膜幅制造充气物品的设备,所述设备包括:
a.第一密封装置,其用于产生将薄膜层结合在一起的横向密封;
b.充气组件,其用于在薄膜层之间引导气体;
c.传感器,其用于检测在薄膜层之间是否已引导预定最小量的气体;以及
d.第二密封装置,其用于在薄膜层之间产生纵向密封,所述纵向密封与横向密封相交从而封入气体。
本发明的另一方面针对于用具有两个并列薄膜层的膜幅制造充气物品的方法,所述方法包括:
a.利用第一旋转密封装置产生横向密封,该等横向密封将薄膜层结合在一起;
b.在薄膜层之间引导气体;以及
c.利用第二旋转密封装置在薄膜层之间产生纵向密封,所述纵向密封与横向密封相交从而封入气体。

具体实施方式
现一起参看图1至图3,其显示用具有两个并列薄膜层16和18的膜幅14制造充气物品12的设备10。充气物品12可用作气垫以(例如)在装运和储存期间包装并保护产品。也可以想象充气物品的其它用途,例如,用作漂浮装置或装饰性物品。
设备10包括第一旋转密封装置20、充气组件22以及第二旋转密封装置24。
第一旋转密封装置20产生将并列薄膜层16、18结合在一起的横向密封26。如图所示,容器28可限定于一对横向密封26之间。为了便于参考,每一容器的‘下游’横向密封表示为26a而‘上游’密封表示为26b。
如图所示,充气组件22在薄膜层16、18之间引导气体(由箭头30表示)并引导到容器28内。
第二旋转密封装置24在薄膜层16、18之间产生纵向密封32。如图所示,纵向密封32与横向密封26对26a、26b相交以在容器28内封入气体30。以此方式,容器28转变成充气物品12。
在本发明的许多实施例中,设备10产生一系列的两个或两个以上容器28并将其转变为一系列的两个或两个以上的充气物品12(如图所示)。有利地,由于第一密封装置20和第二密封装置24的旋转性质,在生产充气物品12系列时,设备10能够持续且不间断地移动膜幅14。这与间歇性方法相反,在间歇性方法中,必须开始膜幅且在进行密封时停止膜幅,这发生于(例如)使用往复式密封装置的方法中。使用根据本发明的旋转密封装置导致充气物品更快的生产,因为无需停止膜幅以便进行密封。
如图1至图3所示,第一旋转密封装置20可包括密封辊34和承压辊36。密封辊34与承压辊36彼此相抵进行旋转以在其间形成‘辊隙’或切向接触区,其向膜幅14施加旋转压缩力。因此,密封辊34与承压辊36可用于在该等辊在旋转箭头所示的方向中旋转时传送膜幅经过设备10,这从而可在线性箭头所示的前进方向中驱动膜幅。因此,辊34、36中的一者或二者的旋转可由适当驱动机构(例如,发动机37,其在图3中示意显示)提供动力。
一般而言,膜幅14可沿按照以下顺序与下列部件相遇的行程路径被传送经过设备10:第一旋转密封装置20,导辊38,充气组件22、第二旋转密封装置24。前述顺序决不具有限制意义,而且只是进行陈述用于说明目的。多种其它配置也是可能的,这些可能配置中的某些配置在下文中展开描述。
导辊38用于与充气组件22对准放置膜幅14,这可适用于当第一旋转密封装置20定位于与充气组件不同高度处时。举例说来,在本发明的某些实施例中,将第一旋转密封装置20设于比充气组件22和导辊38更高的高度处可以是有利的。这种设置提供第一旋转密封装置20与充气组件22之间较长的行程路径而不需要不适当地延长容纳设备10的这些部件的外壳。较长的行程路径向横向密封26提供在容器28在充气组件22处被充气时横向密封26经受张力之前的额外的冷却/固化时间。也可以根据需要包括各种额外的常规薄膜引导装置和薄膜驱动装置。膜幅14可由(例如)供应辊(未图示)供应,所述供应辊位于(例如)在图1至图3中所描绘的部件下方但安装于(例如)设备10的其它部件所安装的同一框架或外壳上。
如上文所述,第一旋转密封装置20产生横向密封26。这种密封一般在与膜幅14沿其行程路径经过设备10的运动方向大体上成横向(即,成一定角度)的方向中定向。横向密封26可为将两个薄膜层结合在一起的任何类型的密封,诸如热封、胶封、粘封等,其中热封是优选的。当使薄膜层16、18彼此接触并且在一或多个预定段向一个薄膜或两个薄膜施加足够的热使得每一被加热的薄膜段的至少一部分变得与其它被加热的段熔融并混合时可以形成热封或热熔焊接。在冷却时,两个薄膜层的被加热的段变得结合在一起。
因此,如图4至图5所示,密封辊34可包括可旋转支撑圆筒40,所述可旋转支撑圆筒40具有外环向表面42和该圆筒旋转所绕的轴线44。此外,加热元件46可与轴线44大体上对准地附加到外表面42上。以此方式,当使密封辊34与薄膜层16或18中的一个薄膜层旋转接触且将加热元件46加热到足以造成薄膜层密封在一起的密封温度时第一旋转密封装置20可形成横向密封26。
举例说来,加热元件46可包括一对密封构件48a、48b,每一次使密封构件48a、48b与膜幅14接触时,例如,随着圆筒40的每一次旋转,所述密封构件对48a、48b产生横向密封26对26a、26b。即,随着圆筒40的每一次旋转,密封构件48a、48b产生相应的横向密封26a、26b,其中密封26b属于下游容器28且密封26a属于邻近上游容器(参看图3)。或者,如果两个加热元件46排列于圆筒40的表面42上,那么随着圆筒40的每一次旋转将形成两对26a、26b横向密封26。同样,随着每一次旋转,在圆筒40上的三个加热元件46产生三对26a、26b密封26,等等。
密封构件48a、48b可以是电阻元件,当向其供电(电源未图示)时,其产生热,且其可具有任何想要的形状或配置。如图所示,构件48a、48b为大体上平行电线的形式,(例如)随着圆筒40的每一次旋转,当其与膜幅12接触时其在膜幅12中产生一对大体上平行的热封26a、26b。
除了在附图中所描绘的大体上线性的密封26之外,还可以形成其它形状和图案,诸如大体上非线性的密封,例如,产生互连气泡图案的波状密封,具有线性和非线性段组合的密封(在下文中描述),‘z字形’密封图案等。
若必要或需要,传热介质可置于密封构件48a、48b与膜幅14之间,诸如PTEE涂层,例如,TEFLON带、聚酯,或能够耐受来自密封构件的热并将能够以足以形成密封26的量将热传递热到膜幅的其它材料。若以此方式采用,任何这种传热介质可以是加热元件46的组成部分。
在完成个别的充气物品12之后,可通过在邻近物品之间包括最小强度线50而便于充气物品12与彼此及/或与膜幅14分开(参见图2至图3)。因此,设备10可有利地包括用于产生这种最小强度线的装置。这可通过使第一旋转密封装置20适于在容器28之间(例如,每一容器之间(如图所示)或者两个或两个以上容器组之间(若需要))产生最小强度线50而实现。例如,用于形成最小强度线50的装置可在其外表面40上并入到(例如,附加到)第一旋转密封装置20内或第一旋转密封装置20上。
用于形成最小强度线50的适当装置为穿孔刀片52,其产生孔线型最小强度线。如图4至图5所示,穿孔刀片52可作为加热元件46的部件包括在内。刀片52可以是锯齿状的(如图所示)以在膜幅14中产生一行孔线,所述孔线在膜幅14中形成最小强度线50以允许容易地通过最小强度线50撕开。
在某些实施例中,如图所示,穿孔刀片52(或其它类型的穿孔装置)可置于密封构件48a、48b之间。这种定位方便地帮助在邻近容器28的横向密封26a、26b之间放置最小强度线50。此外,最小强度线50以此方式的形成与密封26a、26b的形成同时发生。然而,最小强度线50也可利用(例如)穿孔装置在独立的步骤中形成,若需要,所述穿孔装置与第一旋转密封装置20单独地定位并独立地操作。
图1至图3显示了由最小强度线50分开的每一容器28/充气物品12。然而,若需要,可以采用更少数目的最小强度线50使得并非每一容器通过最小强度线与邻近容器分开。举例说来,穿孔刀片可独立地操作及/或单独定位以在任何所要数目的容器(例如,每两个容器之间,每三个容器之间,每十个容器之间等)之间形成最小强度线。当制造含有两个或两个以上充气物品组的复杂气垫时,这可以是需要的。
仍参看图4至图5,加热元件46可以作为集成单元可拆除地附加到支撑圆筒40上。因此,当密封构件48a、48b及/或穿孔刀片52变得用坏时,整个加热元件46可作为一个单元拆除并替换而无需替换加热元件的个别部件。因此,支撑圆筒42可在其外部表面42中包括凹陷54,其中加热元件46的主体56可包括在内,使得当主体56定位于凹陷54内时主体56的外表面58大体上与外表面42齐平(参看图5)。加热元件46可通过任何适当方式附接到圆筒40上,诸如在加热元件46上的一对止动销60,其(例如)通过摩擦配合保持在圆筒40的凹陷54中的相应插座62中以提供加热元件至圆筒的机械附接(图5)。一对突起(即,旋钮)64可包括于加热元件46的外表面58上以提供抓握面来使加热元件的手动拆除和替换更为容易。
当密封构件48为电线或可以通过向流经其的电流流动提供电阻而产生热的其它装置时,止动销60可电连接到密封构件48a、48b并且因此提供电源(未图示)与密封构件之问的电气通信(electricalcommunication)。在这点上,适当类型的销子被称作“香蕉插头”。因此,例如,炭刷换向器和滑环可用于从静态电源(例如,来自壁上插座的电线)输电至旋转密封构件48,其中炭刷是固定的并且传输电源到滑环,所述滑环附接到圆筒48并与圆筒40一起旋转。而滑环与插座62电气通信。因此,当“香蕉插头”或其它导电止动销60插入到插座62内时,可使电流流过并因此加热密封构件48。
如上文所述,第二旋转密封装置24在薄膜层16、18之间产生纵向密封32,所述纵向密封32与横向密封26对26a、26b相交以在容器28内封入气体30。以此方式,容器28转变为充气物品12。这实质上完成制造充气容器的过程。
如图1至图3所示,第二旋转密封装置24可包括密封辊66和承压辊68。如同第一旋转密封装置20,装置24的密封辊66和承压辊68彼此相抵旋转以在其之间形成‘辊隙’或切向接触区,其在膜幅14上施加旋转压缩力。因此,当密封辊66与承压辊68在旋转箭头所示的方向中旋转时,密封辊66与承压辊68可有助于传送膜幅经过设备10,这从而在线性箭头所示的前向方向驱动膜幅。因此,辊66、68中的一者或二者的旋转可由适当驱动机构(例如,发动机70,其在图3中示意显示)来提供动力。
纵向密封32可以是将两个薄膜层结合在一起的任何类型的密封,诸如热封、胶封、粘封等,其中热封是优选的。纵向密封32通常在与膜幅14沿其行程路径经过设备10移动的方向大体上平行的方向中定向。如图2至图3所示,密封32可以是连续的纵向密封,即,大体上线性完整的密封,其仅在使第二旋转密封装置24停止进行密封时中断。因此,密封辊66可以任何适当方式加热以产生连续的纵向密封32(如图所示)。
作为图2至图3所示连续纵向密封32的替代,第二旋转密封装置24可适于产生不连续的纵向密封72系列(如在图8中所示)。当采用这个实施例时,第一旋转密封装置20与第二旋转密封装置24是同步的使得每一纵向密封72与横向密封26对26a、26b相交以在容器28内封入气体30。
当使用密封辊166(如在图6至图7中所描绘)来代替在设备10中的密封辊66时(即,作为第二旋转密封装置24中的替代密封辊)将产生不连续的纵向密封72系列。如在图6至图7中所示,密封辊166可包括具有外环向表面80的可旋转支撑圆筒78和置于该外表面80的至少一部分附近的加热元件82。加热元件82可固定到圆筒78上使得加热元件与圆筒一起旋转。
加热元件82以及密封构件48a、48b可包括由另一导电材料制成的一或多根电线;一或多条金属带;印刷电路塑料带(circuit-printedplastic ribbon),例如,在包括聚对苯二甲酸乙二醇酯(PET)的塑料基板上印刷的金属;以及其它适当导电装置。适当金属材料的实例包括(例如)镍铬铁合金、钢等。当加热元件82或密封构件48a、48b为电线或带子的形式时,其可具有任何所要的横截面形状,包括圆形、正方形、椭圆形、矩形等。加热元件82和密封构件48a、48b可通过任何常规方法制成。发现适用的一种方法为化学蚀刻所要厚度的金属板(例如,316不锈钢)为所要图案。使用这种方法,加热元件82以及成对密封构件48a、48b可各由连续单件金属形成。
支撑圆筒78可由能够耐受由加热元件82所产生的温度的任何材料形成。这种材料包括金属,例如铝(优选地为电绝缘的);耐高温聚合物,例如,聚酰亚胺;陶瓷等。可在外表面80中提供凹槽以容纳加热元件82并且保持加热元件处于圆筒78的外表面上的适当位置。
若需要或必要,可将传热介质固定于外表面80上使得其位于加热元件82与膜幅14之间,诸如PTHE涂层,例如,TEFLON带、聚酯或能够耐受来自加热元件的热量并且以足够形成纵向密封32、72的量将热传递到膜幅的其它材料。这种传热介质可在某些应用中需要以防止加热元件将膜幅烧穿。
如图6至图7所示,加热元件82可具有置于圆筒78的外表面80上的第一端84,和置于外表面80上的第二端86。如图所示,第一端84与第二端86彼此间隔使得加热元件82在圆筒78上形成螺旋图案。这种螺旋图案导致在图8中所显示的纵向密封72的成角度的图案。同时,螺旋图案允许加热元件82在表面80上膨胀与收缩而不破裂或变松。由于加热元件中的温度变化,在其被加热时,例如,在闲置之后的升温期间,或者当其被冷却时,例如,在设备10在使用一段时间后关闭之后,发生加热元件82的膨胀与收缩。
可在加热元件82的个别端84、86包括弹簧88a、88b而进一步调节加热元件82的膨胀/收缩。弹簧可以是加热元件82的组成部分,或简单地连接到其端部84、86,且可如图所示通过紧固件90a、90b固定到圆筒78。弹簧88a、88b可有利地在加热元件82上施加张力,且因此无论加热元件处于膨胀状态或收缩状态保持其在表面80上拉紧。弹簧88a、88b可包括于圆筒78的侧面94a、94b的凹槽92a、92b内(凹槽92a未图示)。可包括狭槽96a、96b以在凹槽92a、92b与表面80之间向加热元件82提供静态(稳态温度)与动态(变化的温度)通道。
同样,加热元件46可在密封构件48a、48b的一端(或在两端)包括可弯曲接头49,其允许密封构件48a、48b随着温度变化独立地膨胀与收缩。
因此,当使装置的圆筒78与薄膜层16、18旋转接触并将加热元件82加热到足以造成薄膜层密封在一起的密封温度时第二旋转密封装置24形成纵向密封72。尽管圆筒78的轴线被显示为大体上垂直于膜幅14的纵向行程路径,但是其可采取任何所要角度来便于密封形成纵向密封72。举例说来,在某些应用中,该角度可在与充气组件22垂直成0度与10度之间变化(例如,5度)以调节膜幅14的行程路径中的任何变化,这有时在容器28被充气时发生。
在某些实施例中,第二旋转密封装置24的圆筒78与加热元件82可以作为集成单元被拆除并替换。以此方式,当加热元件82变得用坏时,整个密封辊166可被手动拆除并用新的密封辊166替换而无需拆除用坏的加热元件82并在圆筒78上安装新的加热元件。因此,对于最终用户来说,这个特征有助于设备10的适用性。
密封辊166可以任何适当方式可拆除地附接到设备10上。举例说来,密封辊可通过在密封辊166上的止动销100来附接到可旋转轮轴98上,所述止动销100(例如)通过摩擦配合保持在轮轴98中的相应插座102中以提供密封辊到轮轴的机械附接。可旋转轮轴98可为设备10的永久固定装置。可通过包括齿圈104便于轮轴的旋转,所述齿圈104可通过直接齿轮传动或间接地(例如)通过传动皮带或传动链而连接到发动机70。
当加热元件82为电线或通过向流经其的电流的流动提供电阻而产生热的其它装置时,止动销100可以电连接到加热元件82,且因此在电源与加热元件之间提供电气通信。如上文所述,在这点上,适当类型的销子被称作“香蕉插头”。因此,例如,炭刷换向器/滑环组合106可用于从静态电源(例如,来自壁上插座的电线108或其它电源)输电到旋转轮轴98和密封辊166。因此,在换向器106中的炭刷可保持固定(即,非旋转的)并且传输电流到滑环,所述滑环附接到齿圈104、轮轴98和密封辊166并且与其一起旋转。而滑环通过(例如)在轮轴98内的内部布线与插座102电气通信。因此,当“香蕉插头”或其它导电止动销100插入到插座102内时,可使电流流过并因此将加热元件82加热。
如上文所述,当如图8所示产生不连续的纵向密封72系列时,第一旋转密封装置20与第二旋转密封装置24同步使得每一纵向密封72与横向密封26对26a、26b相交以在容器28内封入气体30。例如,通过使密封辊34和166具有相同的直径,使两个辊皆在相同的旋转速度操作并且使每一辊34、166的相对旋转位置对准而实现第一旋转密封装置20与第二旋转密封装置24之间的同步使得每一纵向密封72的先导段74与‘下游’横向密封26a相交且尾段76与‘上游’横向密封26b相交(在图8所示)。即,设定密封辊166的初始旋转位置使得(例如)加热元件82的末端86刚好在横向密封26a的下游形成密封72的先导段74,且末端84刚好在尾段76在横向密封26b的上游完成密封段72。
可用于第二旋转密封装置24的替代密封装置为一种被称作“阻力密封器(drag sealer)”的装置,其包括置于一对旋转轧辊之间并与一对移动薄膜层直接接触的固定加热元件以形成连续的纵向密封。这种装置公开于(例如)美国专利第6,550,229号与第6,472,638号中,所述专利的公开内容以参考的方式结合在本文中。可用于第二旋转密封装置24的另一替代密封装置为一种被称作“带式密封器”的装置,其包括可绕多个导辊彼此相抵反向旋转的一对封条(sealingband),其中加热元件与一个或两个封条的内圈(inner track)接触。一对薄膜层在这些封条之间移动并且被这些封条密封在一起。这种装置被公开于(例如)申请于2004年11月2日的美国专利第10/979,583号中,该专利的公开内容以参考的方式结合在本文中。
承压辊36和68可皆由韧性材料(诸如,橡胶或RTV硅树脂)形成。还可以根据需要使用具有滚花表面的其它材料(例如,金属)辊。
膜幅14一般可包括可由设备10操纵以如本文所述封入气体的任何柔性材料,包括各种热塑性材料,例如,聚乙烯均聚物或共聚物,聚丙烯均聚物或共聚物等。适当热塑性聚合物的非限制性实例包括聚乙烯均聚物,诸如低密度聚乙烯(LDPE)和高密度聚乙烯(HDPE)和聚乙烯共聚物,诸如,离聚物,EVA、EMA,非均相(Zeigler-Natta催化)乙烯/α-烯烃共聚物和均相(茂金属,单点催化)乙烯/α-烯烃共聚物。乙烯/α-烯烃共聚物为乙烯与选自C3至C20α-烯烃(诸如,1-丁烯、1-戊烯、1-己烯、1-辛烯、甲基戊烯和其类似物)的一或多个共聚单体的共聚物,其中聚合物分子包括带有比较少侧链分支的长链,包括线性低密度聚乙烯(LLDPE)、线性中密度聚乙烯(LMDPE)、极低密度聚乙烯(VLDPE)以及超低密度聚乙烯(ULDPE)。还可使用各种其它聚合材料,诸如,聚丙烯均聚物或聚丙烯共聚物(例如,聚丙烯/乙烯共聚物)、聚酯、聚苯乙烯、聚酰胺、聚碳酸酯等。薄膜可以为单层或多层的且可以通过使组分聚合物熔融并且通过一或多个扁模具或环形模具将其挤压、共挤压或挤压涂层而通过任何已知挤压过程而制造。
再次参看图1至图3,膜幅14的许多配置是可能的。举例说来,膜幅14可具有封闭的纵向边缘110和相对的开口的纵向边缘112。开口纵向边缘112提供进入容器28内的开口,可引导气体30进入该开口内。封闭纵向边缘110通过在边缘110‘中心折叠’膜幅14使得薄膜层16、18中的每一薄膜层具有大体上相同的尺寸而形成。适当中心折叠装置和方法是此项技术中已知的。中心折叠可在任何所要的时间执行,例如,在薄膜生产之后不久及/或在卷绕到供应辊(未图示)上(以便随后用于设备10)之前不久。或者,中心折叠装置可在供应辊下游的某些点添加到设备10上或与设备10一起使用。
作为另一替代,单独的薄膜层16、18可并列并(例如)通过热密封沿邻近纵向侧边密封在一起以形成封闭的纵向边缘110。作为另一替代,膜幅14可以是平坦管,即,具有两个相对折叠/封闭的纵向边缘,其中纵向边缘中的一个在充气组件22‘上游’的某个点被分切以形成开口边缘112。
由于设备10从其一边使膜幅14充气,可通过该设备来调节多种膜幅宽度,从而制造范围在(例如)4英寸到20英寸的多种宽度的充气物品。同样,取决于密封辊34的直径,密封辊34上加热元件46的数目和间隔等,充气物品可具有任何想要的长度。
如上文所述,由第一旋转密封装置20所生产的横向密封26优选地包括一对横向间隔的密封26a和26b,其与膜幅14的封闭纵向边缘110一起限定容器28中的每一个容器。如图所示,横向密封26a、26b可从封闭纵向边缘110延伸且止于距开口纵向边缘112预定距离处使得并列薄膜层14、16中的每一个薄膜层在并不结合在一起的开口纵向边缘处有凸缘114。如图所示,这种凸缘114沿开口纵向边缘112延伸。因此,凸缘114为延伸超过密封26的末端116的薄膜层14、16的纵向延伸边缘部分,且因此其并不结合(即,通过密封26或任何其它装置)在一起。这种凸缘的目的即将在下文中解释说明。然而,应注意本发明并不限于具有这种未结合凸缘的膜幅,因为许多其它配置也是可能的,例如,边缘112可为封闭边缘,从而形成在末端116与这种封闭边缘之间纵向延伸的充气通道。
如上文所解释说明,设备10另外包括充气组件22用于使容器28充气。充气组件22通过引导气体流(由箭头30表示)进入在开口纵向边缘112的每一容器的开口内而使容器28充气。充气组件22包括喷嘴118和气体30源120(参看图1至图3),其中气流30从该喷嘴118从充气组件排出。气体30可以是(例如)空气、氮气、二氧化碳等。气体源120可(例如)从一或多个储罐或从向整个设备供应压缩空气的中央压缩机(有时被称作“工厂用压缩空气”)提供压缩气体。
如所说明,气体源120是较小的空气压缩机或鼓风机,其可以是设备10的部件并由发送机122提供动力(如图所示)。可操作鼓风机120使得其传递稳定的空气流30或若需要,以脉动模式使得其可传递快速空气脉冲到容器38内。如果薄膜层16、18粘附在一起(这可发生于热塑性薄膜中,尤其在升温操作条件下),这可以是有利的。当这种情况发生时,脉冲调制来自鼓风机120的空气30可以帮助分离薄膜层并且使容器28充气而不向横向密封和纵向密封施加不当压力。
若需要,设备10可另外包括传感器以检测在薄膜层16、18之间是否已引入预定最小量的气体。传感器可产生信号,所述信号视在薄膜层之间是否已引入预定最小量的气体而变化。另外,充气组件22可适于接收信号并且以可变的速率在薄膜层之间引导气体,所述可变的速率取决于从传感器所接收的信号。与检测到这些预定量的气体时相比,当并未检测到预定量的气体时,充气组件的操作速率可有利地更快。
举例说来,可采用光学传感器121来检测被充气容器28是否到达所要的充气程度,例如,基于容器从平坦的未被充气的容器变成膨胀的充气的容器时容器所达到的最小高度,其通过增加容器内的气压使上薄膜层16向上提升(或向外伸展,如果使用垂直行程路径)。可使鼓风机120在相对较高的速率操作,在喷嘴118外产生相对较高的气流速度及/或高气压直到传感器121“注意到”薄膜层16到达特定高度。一旦传感器121检测到薄膜层16在预定最小高度(例如,在图1中所示的高度)时,其可发送信号123到发动机122(或者到控制发动机的适当控制装置,例如,发动机122的电源)以减小鼓风机120的操作速度。在这个较低速度操作模式中,现被充气的容器28维持在所要的充气程度同时完成该容器的纵向密封32、72,从而由于在容器内较低的充气压力减小了施加在新形成的纵向密封(和横向密封)上的张应力。当下一容器28移动到将被充气的位置时,即,在充气组件22前面,传感器121将不再“注意”薄膜层16,且至发动机122的信号123可以改变使得鼓风机120的操作速度再次增加。以此方式,在更大程度上确保了容器28将被完全及/或一致地充气。换言之,较大百分比的容器将被完全及/或一致地充气,且同时,减小了在新形成的纵向密封和横向密封上的应力而且也节约了能量。
如图1至图2所示,喷嘴118可突出到开口纵向边缘112内以实现容器28的充气。当膜幅14如上文所述含有凸缘114时,喷嘴118的至少一部分可定位于凸缘114之间使得在膜幅14沿其行程路径传送经过设备10时,喷嘴在凸缘之间纵向移动。或者,如果边缘112为封闭边缘,那么分切机可以定位于喷嘴118的上游以分切该边缘并因此允许喷嘴保持定位于薄膜层16、18之间(如图所示)。在两种情况下,当膜幅14持续移动越过喷嘴时,喷嘴118可保持在固定的位置。
如图4至图5所示,用于第一旋转密封装置20的加热元件46包括一对大体上线性密封构件48a、48b。或者,密封装置20可采用与支撑圆筒40上的加热元件46类似的加热元件,但是其包括如图9所示的密封构件124a、124b来代替密封构件48a、48b。如图所示,每一密封构件124a、124b包括大体上线性区域126与非线性区域128。使用密封构件124a、124b来代替在第一旋转密封装置20中的密封构件48a、48b得到图10所示的气垫130,其包括充气物品132。充气物品132由具有图10所示的相同密封图案的容器得到,其中这种容器通过充气组件22充气且通过第二旋转密封装置24密封封闭以产生纵向密封32(或若需要,密封72)。如在下文更详细地描述,充气物品132与充气物品12的不同在于充气物品132各沿其横向宽度具有纵向尺寸的至少一个变化。
一对密封134a、134b可由密封构件124a、124b同时制成,其中密封134a对应于密封构件124a且密封134b对应于密封构件124b。这种横向密封134将薄膜层16、18结合在一起以形成具有预定横向宽度“W”的充气物品132。充气物品132沿其横向宽度W也具有至少一个纵向尺寸变化。
因此,例如,如图所示,充气物品132可以具有两个不同的纵向尺寸L1与L2,其中沿每一容器的横向宽度W在这两个尺寸之间发生交替变化。尺寸L1对应于在其大体上线性区域126密封构件124a、124b之间的空间,而较小的尺寸L2对应于密封元件124a、124b的非线性区域128之间的较小的空间。在使用中,具有较大尺寸L1的充气物品的部分提供缓冲而具有较小尺寸L2的部分提供弹性,例如,以允许其在较小尺寸部分处弯曲或折叠以绕将要被包装的物体的轮廓包裹且更密切地遵从着将要被包装的物体的轮廓。
尽管非线性区域128被说明为具有弯曲的半圆形状,但是非线性区域可具有偏离密封元件124a、124b的原本线性形状的任何形状以形成沿其横向宽度W在纵向尺寸中具有至少一个变化的充气物品。
若需要,每一容器/充气物品132可如图所示通过最小强度线50分开,其可如上文所述形成(例如,利用定位于密封构件124a、124b之间的穿孔刀片52)。或者,两个或两个以上这种充气物品组可通过最小强度线分开,即,并非每一个容器/充气物品132需要通过最小强度线分开。
图11为本发明的替代实施例,其中相同的附图标记表示与上文所讨论的相同的部件。设备10′类似于设备10,除了1)用于进行纵向密封的第二旋转密封装置位于用于进行横向密封的第一旋转密封装置的上游,和2)充气组件包括延伸的歧管以靠近膜幅的中心定位喷嘴。
图11为设备10′的平面图,其包括框架或外壳138,设备10′的所有部件可安装到所述框架或外壳138上,其中膜幅14从源(例如,供应辊或供应箱(未图示))拉出,所述源位于图11所示部件下方。举例说来,膜幅14的供应辊可附接到外壳138上,使得膜幅在向上的方向中拉出,且接着在越过导辊140后采取水平路径。充气组件22′包括歧管144和充气喷嘴146。歧管144和喷嘴146定位于薄膜层16、18之间。选择歧管144的长度以将喷嘴146定位在膜幅14内的任何所要位置,例如,靠近横向中心(如图所示)。歧管144可在大体上横向延伸穿过开口纵向边缘112,其中喷嘴146在靠近膜幅的中心具有纵向方位(如图所示)。来自气体源(未图示)的气体148流经歧管44且在膜幅14内(即,在薄膜层16、18之间)从喷嘴146出来。
用于制造纵向密封段72的第二旋转密封装置24′位于设备10′中歧管144的下游,且大体上如上文所述进行操作,除了其在通过第一旋转密封装置20′形成横向密封26之前(即,在其上游)形成纵向密封段72。同样,如上文大体上描述,可通过换向器(例如,如图所示的换向器149)向加热元件82供电,所述换向器149包括换向器环150和接触电刷152。换向器环150与密封辊166电气通信且也(例如)通过轮轴156一起旋转,其中两个部件皆附加到轮轴156上。环150与密封辊166的旋转可通过与也附加到轮轴156上的齿圈154的适当机械啮合而实现,使得所有三个部件以联动(linked)的方式一起旋转。通过电线158向接触电刷152供电。换向器环150与接触电刷152相抵旋转,所述接触电刷152保持固定并且通过换向器环向密封辊166供电。
第一旋转密封装置20′位于第二旋转密封装置24′的下游,且如上文所述进行操作,除了支撑圆筒(表示为40′)可在其内包括径向凹槽160以允许气体148流过并且在圆筒的下游收集直到进行最后的上游横向密封26b以在纵向密封72、薄膜层16与18和横向密封26a、26b之间封入气体148,从而形成充气物品。可通过换向器162向加热元件46供电,所述换向器可与上文刚刚描述的换向器149相同,包括换向器环164、接触电刷168和电线170。可提供齿圈172和轮轴174以便于圆筒40旋转。可使用单一发动机(未图示)(例如)通过皮带传动或链传动来驱动两个齿圈154和172的旋转。
参看图12,现将描述本发明的另一替代实施例,其中包括至少一个第三旋转密封装置以产生至少一个第二纵向密封来将充气物品分成离散的隔间。举例说来,设备10″类似于上文刚刚描述的设备10′,除了第二旋转密封装置24″包括多个密封辊166来形成一或多个额外纵向密封(即,作为纵向密封72的补充)以将充气物品分成离散的充气隔间176。因此,如图12所示,第二旋转密封装置24″可(例如)额外地包括用于产生纵向密封178的第二密封装置166a,用于产生纵向密封180的第三密封装置166b和用于产生纵向密封182的第三密封装置166c以将所得充气容器128分成四行离散隔间176a至176d。密封辊166和166a至166c可与承压辊68′相抵旋转。
充气组件22″可包括带有多个喷嘴146a至146d的歧管144′(如图所示)以如图所示在薄膜层16、18之间引导气体184。在第一旋转密封装置20″的圆筒40″中包括凹槽160a至160d可有助于这种气体引导。如图所示,第一旋转密封装置20″可另外包括一对加热元件46a与46b,其在圆筒40″上彼此相对定位,从而产生为仅具有一个加热元件46的第一旋转密封装置20所产生的横向密封26两倍多的横向密封。而且,当加热元件46a在密封构件之间含有穿孔刀片(被遮住,看不到)以在所得的横向密封26′对之间形成最小强度线50时,加热元件46b不含穿孔刀片。因此,在所得横向密封26″之间并不形成最小强度线。如图所示,圆筒40″可与承压辊36″相抵旋转。
如上文所述,换向器149和162可分别用于向密封辊166/166a-166c和加热元件46a/46b供电。
提供本发明的优选实施例的前文描述仅用于说明和描述目的。其并非详尽的或者并不限制本发明为所公开的精确形式,根据上文的教导可能做出修改和变化或者可在本发明的实践中习得本发明的修改与变化。

Claims (23)

1.一种用具有两个并列薄膜层的膜幅来制造充气物品的设备,其包括:
a.第一旋转密封装置,其用于产生将所述薄膜层结合在一起的横向密封;
b.充气组件,其用于在所述薄膜层之间引导气体;以及
c.第二旋转密封装置,其用于在所述薄膜层之间产生纵向密封,所述纵向密封与所述横向密封相交,
其中,气体被封入于所述纵向密封、横向密封和薄膜层之间从而形成充气物品。
2.根据权利要求1所述的设备,其中所述设备产生一系列的两个或两个以上充气物品。
3.根据权利要求2所述的设备,其中在生产所述系列充气物品时,所述设备持续且不中断地移动所述膜幅。
4.根据权利要求1所述的设备,其中所述第二旋转密封装置包括:
a.具有外环向表面的可旋转支撑圆筒;以及
b.加热元件,其被置于所述圆筒的所述外表面的至少一部分附近并被固定到所述圆筒使得所述加热元件与所述圆筒一起旋转,
其中,当使所述装置与所述薄膜层旋转接触并加热所述加热元件到足以造成所述薄膜层密封在一起的密封温度时,所述第二旋转密封装置形成所述纵向密封。
5.根据权利要求4所述的设备,其中
所述第二旋转密封装置产生纵向密封的不连续系列;以及
所述第一旋转密密封装置与第二旋转密封装置是同步的,使得每一纵向密封与一对所述横向密封相交以在所述充气物品内封入所述气体。
6.根据权利要求5所述的设备,其中:
所述加热元件具有置于所述圆筒的所述外表面上的第一端和置于所述圆筒的所述外表面上的第二端;以及
所述第一端与第二端彼此间隔使得所述加热元件在所述圆筒上形成螺旋图案。
7.根据权利要求4所述的设备,其中所述圆筒与所述加热元件可作为集成单元拆除并替换。
8.根据权利要求2所述的设备,其中所述第一旋转密封装置在所述充气物品之间产生最小强度线。
9.根据权利要求1所述的设备,其中所述第一旋转密封装置包括:
a.可旋转支撑圆筒,其具有外环向表面和所述圆筒旋转所围绕的轴线;以及
b.加热元件,其附加到所述圆筒的所述外表面上并与所述轴线大体上对准,
其中,当使所述装置与所述薄膜层旋转接触且加热所述加热元件到足以使所述薄膜层密封在一起的密封温度时,所述第一旋转密封装置形成所述横向密封。
10.根据权利要求9所述的设备,其中所述加热元件包括一对密封构件,所述密封构件对产生一对所述横向密封。
11.根据权利要求10所述的设备,其中所述加热元件另外包括置于所述密封构件对之间的穿孔装置。
12.根据权利要求9所述的设备,其中所述加热元件可拆除地附加到所述圆筒。
13.根据权利要求11所述的设备,其中所述加热元件作为集成单元可拆除地附加到所述圆筒并且可在其上进行替换。
14.根据权利要求1所述的设备,其中所述第一旋转密封装置大体上进行线性密封。
15.根据权利要求1所述的设备,其中所述第一旋转密封装置大体上进行非线性密封。
16.根据权利要求1所述的设备,其中所述充气物品具有预定的横向宽度和沿其横向宽度在纵向尺寸中的至少一个变化。
17.根据权利要求16所述的设备,其中所述第一旋转密封装置包括具有线性区域与非线性区域的密封构件。
18.根据权利要求1所述的设备,其另外包括第三旋转密封装置用于产生第二纵向密封以将所述充气物品分成离散的隔间。
19.根据权利要求1所述的设备,其另外包括传感器以检测在所述薄膜层之间是否已引入预定最小量的气体。
20.根据权利要求19所述的设备,其中:
所述传感器产生信号,所述信号视在所述薄膜层之间是否已引入所述预定最小量的气体而变化;以及
所述充气组件适合于接收所述信号并且以可变的速率在所述薄膜层之间引导气体,所述可变的速率取决于从所述传感器所接收的信号。
21.根据权利要求20所述的设备,其中与当检测到所述预定量的气体时相比,当未检测到所述预定量的气体时,所述速率更快。
22.一种用具有两个并列薄膜层的膜幅制造充气物品的设备,其包括:
a.第一密封装置,其用于产生将所述薄膜层结合在一起的横向密封;
b.充气组件,其用于在所述薄膜层之间引导气体;
c.传感器,其用于检测在所述薄膜层之间是否已引导预定最小量的气体;以及
d.第二密封装置,其用于在所述薄膜层之间产生纵向密封,所述纵向密封与所述横向密封相交,
其中,气体被封入于所述纵向密封、横向密封和薄膜层之间从而形成充气物品。
23.一种用具有两个并列薄膜层的膜幅制造充气物品的方法,其包括:
a.利用第一旋转密封装置产生横向密封,所述横向密封将所述薄膜层结合在一起;
b.在所述薄膜层之间引导气体;以及
c.利用第二旋转密封装置在所述薄膜层之间产生纵向密封,所述纵向密封与所述横向密封相交,
其中,气体被封入于所述纵向密封、横向密封和薄膜层之间从而形成充气物品。
