The recess preferably has an end which may be in contact with or close to the opposing panel wall, and as shown in FIGS. Nonetheless, the table top panel 8 and bench panel 10 may include any suitable number of indentations arranged in any pattern or configuration. Additional details regarding the size, shape and configuration of recesses that may be used in table tops are in application serial number 10/409,000, entitled "High Strength, Lightweight Blow Molded Plastic Structures," filed April 2003 Disclosed in U.S. Patent No. 8, and joined together by notes throughout. Of course, how the recess has other suitable shapes, sizes and configurations is determined, for example, by the usage and/or design of the table 4 or the bench 6 . Also, neither the table top panel 8 nor the bench panel 10 need any recesses, this is optional.

It will be appreciated that other suitable materials and processes may be used to make the tabletop panel 8 and bench panel 10 . For example, the tabletop panel 8 and the bench panel 10 can also be made of wood, metal or other suitable materials. Additionally, the tabletop panel 8 and bench panel 10 may be formed by any other suitable method or production process, such as injection molding, vacuum forming, transfer molding, rotational molding, and the like. It will also be appreciated that the tabletop panel 8 and the bench panel 10 need not be made from the same or similar methods, processes or materials. For example, the tabletop panel 8 could be made of blow molded plastic, while the bench panel 10 could be made of vacuum molded or injection molded plastic. Similarly, it will also be appreciated that each bench panel 10 need not be made by the same or similar process.

The table 4 may comprise legs or pairs of legs which are movable relative to the tabletop 8 between an unfolded position and a folded position. When in the unfolded position, the table legs are spread out from the tabletop (as shown in Figure 1); when in the folded position, the table legs are close to the tabletop (as shown in Figures 2 and 3). In particular, as shown in FIG. 3 , the table 4 may include a first pair of legs 12 and 14 and a second pair of legs 16 and 18 located near opposite ends of the tabletop. Furthermore, the first pair of legs 12, 14 and the second pair of legs 16, 18 are offset from one another to enable movement between an unfolded position and a collapsed position. Of course, the legs 12, 14, 16, 18 may be placed in any suitable position in any suitable manner, and the table may include any suitable number of legs.

As shown in Figure 3, the paired table legs can be connected together by some transverse support rods, cross bars and the like. For example, the first pair of legs 12, 14 may be connected together by a first crossbar 20 (which may be located near the first end of the tabletop 8) and a second crossbar 22 (which may be remote from the first end of the tabletop 8). . Similarly, a second pair of legs may be connected together by a first crossbar 24 (which may be located proximate the first end of the tabletop 8) and a second crossbar 26 (which may be remote from the first end of the tabletop 8). It is understood that any suitable number and position of crossbars can be used to connect the legs of the table, for example, determined by the usage and design of the table 4 . It will also be appreciated that the use of crossbars is not required, and that table 4 does not require any particular number or location of crossbars.

The lower surface or bottom portion of the table top 8 may include grooves or grooves sized and configured to accommodate the legs 12, 14, 16, 18 and and/or some of the crossbars 20 , 22 , 2 , 26 . Advantageously, these grooves allow the table legs 12 , 14 , 16 , 18 to contact or close close to the lower surface or bottom portion of the table top 8 . This also allows close proximity to the bottom portion of the tabletop 8 when the table legs are in the folded position. These grooves also facilitate stacking of tables and/or the addition of benches 6 to table tops 8 . However, these grooves are not necessary.

The table 4 may comprise a frame which is preferably attached to the lower surface or bottom portion of the table top 8 . The frame may comprise two longitudinal bars 28 and 30 which may consist of elongated strips substantially the length of the tabletop 8 and which may be placed along the sides of the tabletop 8 . The longitudinal rods 28 and 30 are preferably made of metal, such as steel, and preferably have an "L" shaped cross-section. Nonetheless, the longitudinal rods 28 and 30 may have other suitable sizes and configurations, and may be made of other materials with suitable properties. Advantageously, if desired, the longitudinal rods 28 and 30 can be sized and configured to increase the strength and/or rigidity of the table top 8, and the legs 12, 14, 16, 18 can be rotatably connected to the longitudinal rods. on the pole. Nevertheless, the legs 12, 14, 16, 18 may be attached to the tabletop 8 and frame at any suitable location and may have other suitable sizes and configurations.

As shown in Figure 3, the bottom of the table 4 is a groove or cavity defined by the boundaries of a flange. The flange preferably surrounds the periphery of the tabletop 8, but the flange may also be at a distance inwardly away from the edge of the tabletop. It will be appreciated that the groove need not be bounded by a flange, and that the table top 8 may have one or more grooves. Advantageously, all or part of the table frame can be placed within the recess, which hides the frame from the user from the outside. Thus, visible defects or other blemishes can be concealed. Also, because the frame is invisible, the frame can be left unpainted. Nevertheless, the table 4 need not include a frame, a recess, a downwardly extending flange, nor does the frame need to be placed within the recess.

In the embodiment shown in FIG. 3, either or both of the longitudinal bars 28, 30 may include offset portions that place the legs 12, 14 and 16, 18 in an offset relationship. For example, the longitudinal rod 30 includes a first portion 32 leading from this portion to a first curved portion 34 leading to a second curved portion 36 leading to a second portion 38 . Thus, as shown in FIG. 3 , the first location 32 is offset with respect to the second location 38 . Therefore, the second portion 38 is closer to the first edge of the table top 8 , while the first portion 32 is farther away from the first edge of the table top 8 . Similarly, the first portion 32 is closer to the second edge of the opposing tabletop 8 , while the second portion 38 is farther away from the second edge of the opposing tabletop 8 . It will be appreciated that the first portion 32 may be offset relative to the second portion 38 in any manner. As shown in the figures, the first location 32 is preferably parallel to the second location 38, but any angle or configuration between the first and second locations may be possible, including in-line. It will be appreciated that the longitudinal rod 30 does not require any offset location, which is optional. Those skilled in the art will appreciate that the longitudinal rod 28 may have a similar configuration as described above, if desired.

As shown in FIG. 3 , the table leg 14 is located close to the second portion 38 of the vertical bar, and the table leg 18 is located close to the first portion 32 of the vertical bar. Thus, when the legs are in the folded position, the legs 14 and 18 are positioned in an offset position. Such an offset position allows the legs 14 and 18 to have approximately the long length of the table top 8 . Of course, the lengths of the legs 14 and 18 are adjustable if desired. Additionally, the legs 14, 18 may be located in other suitable locations and may be used in other relevant suitable locations. Also, the legs 14 and 18 need not be offset, this is optional. As shown in the figures, the longitudinal bar 28 and table legs 12 , 16 may have a similar configuration as the longitudinal bar 30 and table legs 14 , 18 . The longitudinal bar 28 and the table legs 12 , 16 may also have other suitable configurations and arrangements, eg determined by the usage and design of the table 4 .

As shown in Figure 3, the legs 12, 14, 16 and 18 may be rotatably connected to the table top and/or frame by brackets. For example, crossbar 20 is rotatably connected to tabletop 8 and/or frame by brackets 40 and 42 , and crossbar 24 is rotatably connected to tabletop and/or frame by brackets 44 and 46 . Those skilled in the art will understand that the legs 12, 14, 16 and 18 may be attached to the table top 8 or frame by other suitable configurations and arrangements.

A slotted support rod can be used to guide the movement of the table legs 12, 14, 16 and 18 between the unfolded and folded positions. Slotted support bars can also be used to secure the table legs in the unfolded and/or folded positions. For example, some or all of table legs 12 , 14 , 16 and 18 may be secured (and guided) by corresponding slotted support bars, such as slotted support bars 48 , 50 , 52 and 54 . The advantage is that the slotted support rods are lightweight, relatively easy to produce, and can be simply attached to the table legs. It will be appreciated that other types of support rods and guide rods may also be used to assist movement of the table legs between the unfolded and collapsed positions. Also, other types of support rods and guides may hold the table legs in either the deployed or the collapsed position, or both. Of course, the support rods are not required to assist the movement of the table legs in any manner or to hold the table legs in a particular position.

Because metal tubes are relatively strong and light, the legs 12, 14, 16 and 18 may be made from hollow metal tubes. Preferably, table legs 12, 14, 16, 18 and crossbars 20, 22, 24, 26 are made of steel, but other materials with suitable properties can also be used to make table legs 12, 14, 16, 18 and Crossbars 20, 22, 24, 26. While the legs 12, 14, 16, 18 preferably have a rectangular or oval cross-section, and the rails 20, 22, 24, 26 preferably have a circular cross-section, it will be appreciated that the legs and rails may There are other suitable shapes and configurations, for example, determined by the type of material used to make the table legs and crossbars and the use or design of the table 4 or other unique factors.

As shown in the figures, the bench 6 may include legs, and the legs are preferably movable relative to the bench panel 10 between an unfolded position and a collapsed position. For example, as shown in FIG. 4 , a bench 6 may include a first pair of legs 56 , 58 and a second pair of legs 60 , 62 that may be attached near opposite ends of the bench panel 10 . Of course, the legs 56, 58, 60, 62 can be arranged in any position and in any way. If desired, the bench 6 may comprise a frame and some of the legs 56, 58, 60, 62 may be attached to the frame. The frame may include longitudinal bars 64 , 66 and the longitudinal bars may be placed along the sides of the bench panel 10 . The longitudinal bars 64 , 66 are preferably made of metal and preferably run the length of the bench panel 10 . Nevertheless, the longitudinal bars 64 , 66 may be made of other materials having suitable properties and may be placed along only a portion of the bench panel 10 . Additionally, the longitudinal bars 64, 66 need not be used on the frame, and the frame may have other suitable configurations and arrangements. In fact, the bench 6 requires neither the longitudinal bars 64, 66 nor the frame. Also, while the legs 56, 58, 60, 62 could be attached to the frame, the legs could be attached to the bench 6 at any suitable location. Optionally, a support rod may be used to secure one or more of the stool legs 56, 58, 60, 62 in the unfolded and/or collapsed positions.

As shown in FIG. 4 , the bottom of the bench 6 may be a groove or cavity which may be defined by the boundaries of a flange extending downwardly from the lower surface of the bench panel 10 . The flange preferably runs around the perimeter of the bench panel 10, but the flange may also be a distance inward from the edge of the table top. It will be appreciated that the groove need not be bounded by a flange, and that the bench panel 10 may have one or more grooves. The bench frame can preferably be placed within the recess, which hides the frame from the user from the outside. Thus, visible defects or other blemishes can be concealed. Also, because the frame is invisible, the frame can be left unpainted.

When the legs 56, 58, 60, 62 are in the folded position, all or part of them may be placed within the grooves. Additionally, all or a portion of the legs 56, 58, 60, 62 may be interposed between the longitudinal bars 64, 66 of the frame when they are in the collapsed position. For example, as shown in FIG. 4, when the legs 56, 58, 60, 62 are in the folded position, one end of the legs may be placed in the recess and between the longitudinal bars 64, 66 of the frame and the other end may be Not in the groove or between the longitudinal bars 64,66. It can be understood that one or more stool legs 56, 58, 60, 62 can be partially or fully placed in the groove, and can also be located outside the groove; It can also be located outside the longitudinal bars 64, 66, for example, determined by the usage scheme of the bench 6.

As shown in FIG. 4 , the bench 6 may include a first pair of legs 56 , 58 spaced from a second pair of legs 60 , 62 which may be attached to the bench panel 10 . The first pair of stool legs 56, 58 or the second pair of stool legs 60, 62 may be connected by cross-bars or connecting rods. For example, the legs 56 , 58 are connected together by a crossbar 68 , and the crossbar 68 may be connected to the frame and/or bench panel 10 . Similarly, the legs 60 , 62 are connected together by a crossbar 70 , and the crossbar 70 may be connected to the frame and/or bench panel 10 . It will be appreciated that the legs 56, 58, 60, 62 may move relative to the bench panel 10 even without the use of crossbars or connecting rods. It is also understood that the legs 56 , 58 , 60 , 62 may have other suitable arrangements and designs, eg, determined by the design and configuration of the bench 6 and/or table 4 . For example, a pair of legs may have a separate support member that may be curved or angled to the legs.

Some supporting parts can be connected to the stool legs 56, 58, 60, 62, such as the stool feet. For example, a first pair of legs 56 , 58 may be connected to the foot portion 72 and a second pair of legs 60 , 62 may be connected to the foot portion 74 . End caps may be attached to each foot portion and, for example, these end caps may be sized and configured to prevent foreign objects from entering the foot portion and/or to provide a non-slip surface. For example, end caps 76 and 78 fit over opposite ends of foot portion 72 , and end caps 80 and 82 fit over opposite ends of foot portion 74 . The end caps 76, 78, 80, 82 are preferably made of plastic and are slidably attached to the ends of the legs. Nevertheless, the legs 56, 58, 60, 62 need not have foot portions.

As shown in FIG. 4 , the first pair of legs of the bench 6 in this embodiment are connected near one end of the bench panel 10 , and the second pair of stool legs are connected near the opposite end of the bench panel 10 . A foot portion 72 is attached to the ends of the first pair of legs 56 , 58 and a foot portion 74 is attached to the ends of the second pair of legs 60 , 62 . In this embodiment, the ends of the foot portions 72 , 74 may extend beyond the longitudinal bars 64 , 66 of the frame, while also extending beyond the outer edge of the bench panel 10 . Thus, in this embodiment, the ends of the foot portions 72, 74 and the end caps 76, 78, 80, 82 are not seated on the bench panel 10 when the legs 56, 58, 60, 62 are in the folded position. Nor will it be placed between the longitudinal bars 64, 66 of the frame within the grooves of the lower surface. Additionally, the ends of the foot portions 72 , 74 and the end caps 76 , 78 , 80 , 82 may partially extend beyond the flange and/or the outer edge of the bench panel 10 . Advantageously, when the legs 56, 58, 60, 62 are in the folded position, the foot portions 72, 74 and the end caps 76, 78, 80, 82 are capable of contacting a portion of the longitudinal bars 64, 66 and/or with The bench panel 10 is in contact with a portion of the ground surface or bottom portion. This helps to minimize the height of the bench when the legs 56, 58, 60, 62 are folded.

The bench 6 may include flanges extending downwardly from the bench panel 10 . For example, the bench 6 includes flanges 84 , 86 at or near the outer edge of the bench panel 10 , but the flanges could be located a distance inward from the outer edge of the bench panel 10 . The flanges 84 , 86 help to form part of the recess in the bottom of the bench panel 10 , and the bottom surfaces of the flanges and the bottom surface of the bench panel 10 are spaced apart by a distance. When the foot portions 72, 74 are in the folded position, the foot ends and/or end caps may contact a portion of the flanges 84, 86.

It will be appreciated that the foot portions 72, 74 and end caps 76, 78, 80, 82 may be partially received in openings, depressions, grooves, grooves, etc. formed in the bench panel 10 and/or frame. This enables the foot portions 72 , 74 and end caps 76 , 78 , 80 , 82 to be proximate to the bottom surface or bottom portion of the bench panel 10 .

The legs 56, 58, 60, 62 and the foot portions 72, 74 may be made of metal, such as a hollow steel tube, and have a circular cross-section. Advantageously, the tubular legs 56, 58, 60, 62 and foot regions 72, 74 are relatively strong and lightweight. The legs 56, 58, 60, 62 and foot portions 72, 74 may also have other suitable shapes and be made of other materials with suitable properties.

The bench 6 is preferably removably attached to the table 4 so that the table and bench can be conveniently stored and transported. For example, as shown in FIG. 2 , the bench 6 is preferably attached to the bottom portion of the table 4 , and the bottom portion of the bench is preferably adjacent to the bottom portion of the table top 8 . Nevertheless, it will be appreciated that the top portion of the bench 6 can be brought closer to the bottom portion of the table top 8 if desired. Ideally, the bench 6 is affixed to the table 4 so that some portion of the bench is in contact with the table, so the thickness of the entire table and bench system can be minimized. Nevertheless, the bench 6 can also be some distance away from the table 4 if desired. In addition, when the benches 6 are attached to the table 4, the top portion of each bench is preferably aligned on a plane. The top portion of the bench 6 can also be parallel to the top portion of the table top 8 . Advantageously, such a configuration facilitates stacking and packing the table and bench system.

The bench 6 may be attached to the table 4 in such a way that it is placed in whole or in part within a recess at the bottom portion of the table top 10 and/or beyond the bottom portion defined by a downwardly extending flange plane. The bench 6 may also be added to the table 4 in such a way that it is placed in whole or in part out of any recess at the bottom of the table top 10 and/or beyond the bottom portion defined by a downwardly extending flange plane. In addition, the bench 6 can also be attached to the table 4 as follows: the bench 6 is placed between the longitudinal bars of the bench frame and/or between the table legs. Of course, the bench 6 can also be added to the table 4 as follows: the bench 6 is placed outside the longitudinal bars of the bench frame and/or between the table legs. The benches 6 can also be attached to the table 4 individually, so that individual benches 6 can be connected and disconnected from the table individually. Of course, the various components of the table and bench system may be placed in any suitable arrangement and configuration.

The bench 6 is preferably connected to the table 4 by some fasteners, locks or pillars, and these connecting parts may be located near the center of the bottom of the table top 8 or other suitable locations. For example, in the embodiment shown in FIG. 3, the table and bench system includes two bracket sections 90,92. As shown in FIG. 6A, the brackets 90, 92 have an "I" shaped cross-section, and each section of the bracket has a suitable size and configuration of accommodating parts designed to facilitate the addition of a bench 6 to the table 4. . In particular, the brackets 90, 92 are preferably of a height such that a section of the slot or groove in the bench panel 10 can securely engage a portion of the bracket receiving area.

The brackets 90, 92 are preferably made of a relatively strong material, such as certain plastics, metal, etc., but other materials with suitable properties are also possible. The brackets 90, 92 may be attached to the tabletop 8 with a snap, friction, interference fit, or other means. Also, the brackets 90, 92 could be attached to the tabletop 8 by some screws, but other types of fasteners, adhesives, etc. could be used. The brackets 90, 92 are preferably arranged along the central axis of the tabletop 10, and close to the center of the tabletop 10, but the brackets 90, 92 can be connected to any suitable part of the table 4, such as by the bench 6 and the table. 4 to determine the size and configuration. Additionally, brackets 90 , 92 may have other shapes and configurations, eg, determined by the size and shape of bench 6 and the intended use of table 4 .

But when the bench 6 is attached to the table 4, the bench can be close to or be in contact with the longitudinal bars 28, 30 of the frame; it can be close to the flange of the table top 10 or be in contact with it; 18 or in contact with it; can be close to or in contact with crossbars 20, 22, 24, 26; and/or can be close to or in contact with other positions of table 4. Thus, when the bench 6 is attached to the table 4, the movement of the folded table or stool legs can advantageously be restricted. Thus, when the bench 6 is attached to the table 4, the table and bench system 2 can be conveniently transported without fear that some of the table or stool legs will easily move from the folded position to the unfolded position.

As shown in FIG. 5 , the bench panel may include grooves or grooves 94 , 96 , 98 , 100 that are suitably configured to engage or cooperate with at least one portion of the brackets 90 , 92 . The bench panel may include recessed locations 102, 104 which may be located at or near the edge of the bench panel. The groove locations 102, 104 may exhibit flat surfaces or other types of surfaces. Of course, recessed locations 102, 104 and/or grooves 94, 96, 98, 100 may be formed at other suitable locations and need not be formed at the same or similar locations. Also, there may be no need for grooves, grooves or recessed areas in the bench panel.

The grooves 94 , 96 , 98 , 100 are preferably sized and configured to facilitate the attachment of the bench 6 to the table 4 . In particular, the grooves 94 , 96 , 98 , 100 are preferably sized and configured to engage or mate with the brackets 90 , 92 . For example, the groove 94 may engage a portion of the first bracket and the groove 96 may engage a portion of the second bracket to assist in attaching one of the benches 6 to the table 4 . Likewise, the groove 98 may engage another portion of the first bracket and the groove 100 may engage another portion of the second bracket to assist in securing another bench 6 to the table 4 . The grooves 94 , 96 , 98 , 100 may have other suitable arrangements and configurations, determined, for example, by the size and location of the brackets 90 , 92 .

Brackets 90, 92 preferably have the same configuration, in particular, preferably have the same configuration as shown in Figure 6A. Thus, while bracket 90 will be described in detail below, bracket 92 preferably has the same configuration. It is understood that the brackets 90 , 92 may have other suitable configurations, eg, determined by the size and design of the table 4 and/or bench 6 .

As shown in FIG. 6A, the bracket 90 includes a central portion with outwardly projecting flanges 106,108 thereon. The central portion and outwardly extending flanges 106, 108 preferably form a "T" configuration with one another, although the bracket 90 may have other suitable configurations. The flanges 106 , 108 may each have a flange or ridge 110 , 112 on their ends, and the flanges are preferably spaced from the center of the bracket 90 . In particular, bracket 90 may include an inner portion 114 between flange 110 and the central portion, and an inner portion 116 between flange 112 and the central portion. The flanges 110, 112 preferably extend along the entire length of the flanges 106, 108, but the flanges may also extend along only a portion of the length of the flanges. As shown in the figures, the bracket 90 preferably has a paired configuration so that a bench can be attached to the table top from each side of the bracket 90 . Nonetheless, bracket 90 may not have a paired structure, for example, if a bench is not intended to be attached to each side of the bracket.

The bracket 90 may include some outwardly extending members, which help to connect the bracket to the table 4 and/or increase the stability of the bracket. In particular, the bracket 90 preferably includes a first outwardly extending member 118 and a second outwardly extending member 120 . A first receiving location is preferably located between the first outwardly extending member 118 and the first flange 106 and a second receiving location is preferably located between the second outwardly extending member 120 and the second flange 108 . As will be described in detail below, when the bench is connected to the table 4, one of its parts may be placed in the first and second receiving parts.

Bracket 90 is preferably made of a relatively strong and sturdy material, such as plastic. The bracket 90 is also preferably made of a material having some elastic or bending properties, which facilitates insertion of a portion on the bench 6 into the first and second receiving portions. Additionally, the bracket 90 is preferably made as a one-piece structure and is attached to the table top 8 by some fasteners and/or snap, friction or interference fit. It can be understood that the bracket 90 can be made of a composite member, and can also be connected to the table top 8 by any suitable method.

Bracket 90 may assist in attaching bench 6 to table 4 as shown in FIG. 6B . In particular, a portion of the bench 6 may be placed in the first or second receiving portion on the bracket 90 to assist in attaching the bench to the table 4 . For example, a portion of the bench 6 that includes a section of groove 122 , similar to grooves 94 , 96 , 98 or 100 , can be placed in the first receiving location on the bracket 90 . Desirably, at least a portion of the flange 112 is seated in the groove 122 to securely connect the bench 6 to the table 4 . The location 124 on the bench panel 10 can also be placed in the second receiving location on the bracket 90 . Thus, some movement of the bench panel 10 relative to the table 4 is restricted when a portion of the bench is placed in a receiving location on the bracket 90 .

The bench 6 can be connected to the table 4 by some fasteners or loops 126 and 128 . For example, as shown in FIG. 3, the fasteners 126 and 128 are preferably located near the sides of the table top 8, but the fasteners may be located in other suitable locations. Although the fasteners 126 and 128 are preferably attached to the tabletop 8, it will be appreciated that these fasteners may also be attached to the table frame or other suitable locations on the table 4, for example, depending on the size and configuration of the table or bench. to decide. Because fasteners 126 and 128 are preferably of identical construction, only fastener 126 will be discussed in detail below. It will be appreciated that fasteners 126 and 128 may be configured differently and may have other suitable shapes, sizes and configurations.

As shown in FIG. 7, one embodiment of the fastener 126 includes an elongated body portion and two outwardly projecting portions. Located between the two outwardly projecting portions is an opening suitably sized and configured to accommodate a portion of the bench 6 . Preferably, this portion of the bench 6 can be selectively inserted into and removed from the opening, such that the bench 6 is detachably attached to the table 4 . Thus, when the bench 6 is attached to the table 4 , a portion of the bench 6 is inserted into the opening on the fastener 126 .

In more detail, the fastener 126 preferably includes an opening 130 between the first receiving location 132 and the second receiving location 134, and the opening is preferably sized and configured to receive a location on the bench 6, Such as the foot portions 72, 74 and/or end caps 76, 78, 80, 82 of a bench. The first and second receiving portions 132, 134 are preferably made of a resilient or bendable material so that the foot portions 72, 74 and/or the end caps 76, 78, 80, 82 can be inserted into the opening 130, after which the first and The second receiving portion returns to the original position due to the elasticity to fix the stool leg and/or the end cap. The bendable first and second receiving portions 132 , 134 can also be deformed such that the foot portions 72 , 74 and/or the end caps 76 , 78 , 80 , 82 move out of the opening 130 . Thus, the fastener 126 can hold a portion of the bench 6 in a fixed position by means of a snap, friction or interference fit.
