Abstract

可修改的键区及其按钮机械装置
技术领域
本发明大体上涉及用户界面设备,特别地,涉及用于设备中有多种操作模式的键区和按钮。
背景技术
电子设备在世界范围内被广泛使用,便携式电子设备例如蜂窝式无线电话和个人资料管理器的使用频率也在增长。在许多情况下,人们可能有多个用于执行不同任务的这类设备。从用户的角度看,把这些设备集成为一个设备将会方便得多。集成将不必配备各自的配件、电池等等,并且携带一个设备比携带多个不同功能的设备更方便。在考虑集成设备的方法时出现的问题是用户界面的人机工程学。例如,用户已经习惯于蜂窝式无线电话上的数字键盘,以及数字键上可使用的用于文本输入的一些字母。相反地,通常所说的双向寻呼机和掌上电脑的用户习惯于更传统的与计算机键盘和打字机有相似布局的QWERTY键盘。
电子设备制造商通常制造在多个国际市场上销售的设备,因此需要制作有不同语言或字符的键区或按钮以对应于在特定区域广泛使用的语言。这就需要有键区和按钮不同部分的清单,以及配备独立的“工具包”,用于在组装时追踪设备以确保正确的工具包进入预定市场。
在可执行多个功能的集成设备中,如果键区和按钮可以修改并改变它们的外观,以提供对用户来说熟悉的界面,这将是有重大好处的。相似地,如果键区(keypad)或按钮可以改变它的外观,那么相同的键区可被用于不同语言的市场,并可简单显示适当的字符或符号。也就是说,如果键区可以改变,就可使用通用的键区配件,从而排除了开列用于不同语言市场的不同键区部分的清单这一需求。有可能使用传统的显示技术,例如液晶显示,使不同字符或符号显示在不同按键或按钮上,每个键上显示一个。然而由于该方法极其昂贵,LCD显示器又不灵活,因而它们不是使用便携电子设备中通常配备的翻滚开关型键区时的最佳选择。因此,需要有一种可修改的键区,且需要有可用的廉价的、机械灵活的按钮机械装置。

具体实施方式
尽管本说明书包括了解释本发明新颖特征的权利要求书,在考虑了结合已在前述指出的附图标记的下述描述,相信能更好的理解本发明。现有技术的简要描述也是有用的。
本发明提供了一种单独使用的可修改的键区和按钮机械装置,或当同时提供键区和按钮时,提供一种可修改的键区。按钮包含一个允许多个字符或符号显示在按钮上的显示装置。该显示装置是在驱动层和透明导体层之间有一层电激发墨的薄片。驱动层有不同字符形式的导体元件。形成不同字符的多套导体元件重合地放置,在字符或符号重叠处可以使用共同的导体元件。而且,字符或符号可以有不同的方向,以便当在有不同方向的操作模式的设备上使用时,可以在不同方向上显示不同的字符。
现在参见图1,显示了一种可修改的键区组合100的等距分解图。这个可修改键区组合包含一个上面放置一连串开关电路103的印刷电路版(PCB)102,一连串对应于PCB开关电路排列的翻滚圆顶104,以及一层用于保持翻滚圆顶在适当位置的粘合层106。组合进一步包括一层由驱动层108、电激发墨层110和透明导体层112组成的用于提供显示装置的薄片。驱动层108本身是由一层使用诸如聚酯薄膜或者聚酰胺做成的可变形绝缘层组成的薄片。在这层可变形绝缘层上放置着导体元件114,例如铜或者导电墨。这些导体元件形成显示在可修改键区的特定按钮或按键上的字符或符号的片断。还有导电轨迹连接到导电元件,用于提供电压或给导体元件通电。这些轨迹可以与可变形绝缘层在同一侧,也可以在另一侧或者是位于可变形衬底中,并且通过诸如已知的电镀通孔穿过可变形绝缘层。
电激发墨层是电泳材料,并且包含诸如有电极的双-镀铬的微球体,其悬置在允许微球体自由旋转的介质中。在权利人为E-Ink公司的美国专利第6,120,588号中提出了电激发墨的例子。当被施加电压差时,被电极化的微球体开始旋转。在层上的不同点选择性地施加电压差,引起这些点的微球体开始旋转,并且因为被双-镀铬而在该点显示出不同的颜色。电压差经过导体元件和透明导体层112之间。透明导体层是一层,例如,氧化铟。其整层可以设为一个电势,而导体元件被设为一个不同的电势,从而在透明导体层和导体元件之间产生引起双-镀铬的极化微球体在场中旋转的电场。起初所有的双-镀铬的极化微球体方向相同。当导体元件和透明导体层被通电时,它们之间的球体将旋转,引起导体元件和透明导体层之间的电激发墨区域应于导体元件布线图而显示出颜色变化。一旦开始旋转,场可以被除去,并且微球体保持它们的方向。要消除该布线图,施加一个有相反极性的场,引起球体旋转到它们最初的位置。
现在参见图2,显示了由驱动层108的可变形绝缘层上的多套导体元件形成的重合符号的详细俯视图200。图2中所示的是形成重合字符或符号的简单例子。通过重合,意味着字符或符号占用一个公共区域。如图所示,它们可以交错,或者在接近的位置以便显示在同一个按键或按钮上。本例的讲解可以延伸到更复杂的字符和排列,以及延伸到多个重合字符或符号,这对于掌握技术中普通技能的人来说是很明显的。在本例中,第一套导体元件202和204形成了英文字母“I”。第二套导体元件208和210形成了阿拉伯数字“1”(一)。随意地,在字符或符号相交的地方,可以有形成第一和第二符号的共同片断的第三套导体元件206。相似地,第一套导电轨迹212和220连接到第一套导体元件,第二套导电轨迹216和218连接到第二套导体元件,第三套导电轨迹214连接到共同片断。这样,当显示第一字符时,如上所述给第一套导体元件通电。通常,基于操作键区或按钮的模式排它性地给不同的字符集通电。当然,如果一个字符正在显示而又要显示另一个不同字符时,必须擦去当前显示的字符。
在本发明的一个实施例中,如图2所示字符或符号并没有共同的方向。这是预计利用这个可修改键区的设备可用不同的模式来操作,其中键区可以用于“横向”模式作为文本输入键区,而在使用键区的“纵向”模式中,例如,作为电话键区。在第09/560,977号、标题为“自配置多元件便携电子设备”、权利人为本受让人的美国专利申请中可以找到这类设备的例子。当然,当在键区或按钮上使用不同语言的字符时,重合字符或符号可以有共同的方向,在这种情况下允许用户显示首选的字符语言集,其中所有的按键或按钮显示某个特定语言的字符。
现在参见图3,显示的是依照本发明的一种按钮机械装置300的侧面截面图。此处显示的按钮机械装置与图1所示的键区组合一致。这一特定的按钮机械装置实施例采用的是普通的印刷电路板(PCB)302和翻滚开关304设计。PCB是按传统制造的PCB,上面有开关电路,其为电连接到用于检测翻滚开关304与开关电路何时接触的控制电路的导体。翻滚开关是由导电材料制造的圆顶结构。然后挤压翻滚圆顶,使其与开关电路接触而形成一个按传统方法由控制电路检测的回路。与开关装置对应放置的是显示装置,包括驱动层306,电激发墨层308和透明导体层310。电激发墨层放置在驱动层和透明导体层之间。该显示薄片是可变形的,允许挤压翻滚圆顶。按钮机械装置可以只有显示薄片和翻滚开关的功能,但在首选实施例中,按钮机械装置进一步包含一层对应于翻滚开关放置的透明动作构件312,以便显示装置位于翻滚开关和透明动作构件之间。该透明动作构件与显示薄片接触,并由设置了按钮的设备的外壳314固定在适当的位置上。最后,设计透明动作构件有凸起的外表面316来提供放大作用,以及提供与设备外壳在触觉上的差别。
现在参见图4,显示的是依照本发明可选实施例的一种替换按钮机械装置400的侧面截面图。在该实施例中,显示了与标准键盘,例如那些通常在计算机终端中使用的键盘,更一致的替换的开关装置。按钮或按键包含通常由模型塑料制成的体402。显示薄片位于在按钮体顶部形成的凹口之中,并包括驱动层404,电激发墨层406和透明导体层408。在显示薄片的顶部可以放置一层透明罩410以保护显示薄片。弹簧装置412使按钮机械装置体从诸如PCB414处偏移。开关电路416放置在按钮体之下的PCB上。导电构件418放置在按钮体的下部,并对应于开关电路416以便当按钮被挤压时,可以形成一条由控制电路检测的回路。为了驱动显示,使用活动连接器420将控制电路连接到显示薄片的驱动层和透明导体层。从而,可以做成汇集这种按钮机械装置的键盘:每个按钮可以有多个在各自驱动层部分的驱动层上形成的字符,每个字符属于一个不同的语言集。当用户希望键盘显示不同语言字符集时,控制电路可以擦去旧的字符,显示新的所需语言的字符。
因此,本发明解决了提供一种可修改的键区和按钮机械装置这一难题。尽管已经用图画出并描述了本发明的首选实施例,应当清楚的知道本发明并不仅限于此。在不背离由附上的权利要求书所确定的本发明的精髓和范围的情况下,那些熟悉技术的人将会想出大量的修改、改变、变化、替代方案和等价方案。

Claims (6)

1.一种按钮机械装置,其包含:
一个用于操作按钮电路以响应按钮机械装置的动作的开关装置;
对应于所述开关装置放置的显示装置,其包含:
一层驱动层,其有按照将在按钮机械装置上显示的符号的图案配置的导体图案;
一层透明导体层;以及
一层放置在透明导体层和驱动层之间的电激发墨层;
其中所述导体图案包含:
对应于第一符号的第一套导体元件;
对应于第二符号的第二套导体元件;
其中所述第一和第二符号的位置重合在一起;以及
形成第一和第二符号的共同片断的第三套导体元件。
2.如权利要求1中所确定的按钮机械装置,其中所述第一和第二符号方向不同。
3.如权利要求1中所确定的按钮机械装置,其中所述开关装置包含一个翻滚开关。
4.如权利要求3中所确定的按钮机械装置,其进一步包含一个对应于所述翻滚开关放置的透明动作构件,使所述显示装置位于翻滚开关和透明动作构件之间。
5.如权利要求4中所确定的按钮机械装置,其中所述透明动作构件有凸起的外表面。
6.一种可修改的键区,其包含:
多个键,其中每个键包含:
一个用于操作按钮电路以响应按钮机械装置的动作的开关装置;
对应于所述开关装置放置的显示装置,其包含:
一层驱动层,具有按照将在按钮机械装置上显示的符号的图案配置的导体图案;
一层透明导体层;以及
一层放置在透明导体层和驱动层之间的电激发墨层;其中所述每个键的导体图案包含:
对应于第一符号的第一套导体元件;
对应于第二符号的第二套导体元件;
其中所述第一和第二符号的位置重合在一起;以及
形成第一和第二符号的共同片断的第三套导体元件。
