Timepiece in which the escapement is driven by a constant driving force. The present invention relates to a timepiece in which the escapement is mii by a constant driving force.
The accompanying drawing represents, by way of example, an embodiment of the object of the invention.
Fig. 1 is a partial plan view; fig. 2 is a section through A-B-C of fig. 1, and the. fig. 3 a section through D-E of fig. 1; figs. 4 and 5 illustrate its operation.
a is a wheel, from .field to pinion a ,. which engages the usual middle wheel of the cog, which is not shown and which is connected to the motor barrel. The wheel a con ducted the pinion b, fixed on the axis of the return gear b which, in turn, drives the pinion cl on the axis of which the whip c is fixed. The axis of the wheel turns in two stones fixed to the bridges of the cage, crosses the dial i and carries the seconds hand g.
Below the wheel a is arranged a second field wheel d, fixed to a cannon, which rotates in a stone housed in the base plate and itself carries, inside it, another stone in which can rotate the axis of the wheel a. The wheels a and b are connected by a secondary spring h fixed, on the one hand, to a piston hl integral @de the axis of the wheel a and, on the other hand, to a ferrule h2 fixed to the barrel of the wheel d.
The latter, barrel also crosses the dial and carries the hand gl intended to mark the fifths of a second. e is the escape wheel, with 15 teeth, of an anchor escapement, the other parts of which are not shown. This wheel is moved by means of .de the field wheel d which grates on the pinion e, fixed to the shaft of the wheel e. The star wheel f is also attached to the latter.
The operation is as follows: The secondary spring la is placed up in the movement so that the motive force which it deploys actuates, by means of the field wheel d and the pinion cl , the wheel -exhaust e. Suppose the balance wheel performs five oscillations per second. At each of these oscillations, the escapement wheel e is released and advances, by one step, that is to say @ half the distance between two of its consecutive teeth, dragging in its movement the star wheel f.
The whip c is supported, by the action of the barrel spring acting on it via the gear train and the return b, against the tooth f i. of the star f. At each step of the escape wheel e, this tooth f1 advances by '@ 3o of a revolution and the whip follows it in its movement. At the fifth oscillation of the balance, the. tooth f 1 takes its fifth step forward which brings it into the position shown in FIG. 5.
The whip c is then released and, under the action of the driving force of the mainspring, executes, in a very short time, a complete turn on itself then comes back to rest against the tooth f :: of the star wheel. At the end of this turn, the notch k of the roll k, fixed on the whip came to stand in front of the tooth fr, allowing it to move in front of the axis of the whip. The cog, which was held at rest by the whip. performs a movement during the. aforementioned rotation of it. This movement produces an instantaneous displacement of the seconds hand g which thus advances once per second and consequently beats the dead second.
In addition, the wheel AC, while turning, wound up the secondary spring h which had relaxed slightly in communication with the. driving force at the escapement wheel during the first four steps thereof. We therefore see that the spring la, which ricts the. escape wheel, has a practically constant driving force and this is due to the degree of development -du barrel spring which is only used. re fit the spring h.
In addition, when the res out of the barrel is completely relaxed, the whole mechanism stops before the res by sub-spell h has had time to relax itself. Indeed, the notch k practiced on the roller k1 will not come. not be placed in front of: the corresponding tooth of the star wheel f since, the spring: of the barrel being relaxed, the cog, and consequently the whip, are immobile. The star wheel will therefore be stopped as well as the exhaust wheel.
Each of the teeth of the star wheel f presents: - feels a notch f2, the goal of which is and follows: It can happen that the whip, under the effect, of an accidental cause (for example if the the indicator needles are moved in the opposite direction to their normal direction), rotates in the opposite direction to its normal direction shown by the arrow at fi-. 5. It then engages the notch f @ of the tooth fr (fig. 4) which stops it at the start of its rotational movement.
If this notch did not exist, the whip, continuing to turn, would push back the tooth of the star wheel which, after being erased in front of it, could pass before the axis of the whip and the latter could effect kill its movement without the said whip having executed its. normal rotation during which the winding of the spring is carried out. It follows that the latter would not have been reassembled in due time and, if this phenomenon occurs several times, the spring h can relax a lot, which compromises the proper functioning of the mechanism.
The escape wheel e controls the guille g1 via the pinion e, and the wheel d. This hand therefore marks the '/ 5-seconds.
