En même temps, des cristaux de sel pren nent naissance dans la masse en ébullition. Sous l'effet de son poids, chaque cristal naissant a tendance à gagner le fond du vaporisateur, mais par suite de la forme conique de la partie 2, la vitesse de circu lation verticale de bas en haut subie par le liquide est maximum dans la partie cylin drique 3 et va en décroissant clans les couches supérieures;
Evaporator-crystallizer for obtaining large crystals. The object of the present invention is an evaporative apparatus intended for the concentration of saline solutions which, during their boiling, allow crystals to be deposited, such as, for example, solutions of sea salt, of salty electrolytic soda, etc.
It is known that, in order to achieve good heat transmission in evaporators, it is necessary to give the evaporating liquid a high circulation speed in contact with the heating surfaces. On the other hand, it is also known that the salt which forms by evaporation in moving saline solutions is always very fine salt in the form of fine dust. in which the crystals are very difficult to separate from the surrounding water and to leach either by simple filtration or by dewatering.
The only process currently employed to obtain the salt in coarse crystals by evaporation consists in carrying out a slow evaporation in a still and boiling liquid. process which necessarily results in a very poor efficiency of the heating surface.
The apparatus according to the present invention makes it possible, on the contrary, to obtain the salt in well-formed crystals while at the same time giving the liquid to be evaporated at a high speed of circulation in contact with the heating surface. arrangement making it possible to obtain both a high efficiency of the heating surface and. at the same time, the formation of crystals large enough to be easily separated from their mother liquor and easy to leach.
A device conforming to. the invention is shown, by way of example, in the appended drawing: FIG. 1 is a vertical section: FIG. 2 is a plan with a cover removed.
In this apparatus, 1 is a cylindrical container or vaporizer with a vertical axis connected by a cone 2 to a cylindrical part 3 of diameter smaller than the diameter of the container 1. The cylindrical part 3 is connected to a cylindrical-conical part 4 forms a reservoir for the crystals produced in the upper parts, which can be extracted through valve 5. In the interior of the vessel. 1, a vertical nut 6 reigns over a certain height. It is arranged so as to leave a free passage 8 on its side and bottom faces and, for this purpose, is suspended by a number of legs or ears \ i which fix it to. cylinder wall 1.
At 9 there is a tubular reheater or superheater, the tubes of which are heated externally by steam admitted through the pipe 10, the condensing water of this vapor being discharged through the pipe 11.
The upper part of this heater is in communication, through the oblique pipe 12, with the interior of the vaporizer l., Towards the center of which it is directed; then passing through the screen 6, it opens into the chamber 13, between the screen 6 and the wall of the vaporizer 1. This pipe ends with a cylindrical = conical bell with horizontal axis, the opening of which is at a ceria ine distance from the wall of the vaporizer 1, and in the center of which moves a propeller with horizontal axis 14, the shaft of which is controlled from the outside by an electric motor 15, or in any other way .
The lower part of the heater 9 is joined by an elbow pipe 16 to the lower part 4 of the appliance; this pipe passes through the wall of the cylindrical container 4 and continues inside the latter by an elbow 17 which rises in the general axis of the vaporizer.
The operation of the apparatus shown is as follows: The assembly being filled with a liquid to be concentrated up to level 18 located a little above the upper part of the screen 6, the propeller propeller 14; this sucks the liquid contained in the chamber 13, causing a call in the rest of the vaporizer and mainly in the upper regions as indicated by the arrows, pushes it back into the inclined pipe 12, forces it to pass through the tubes heater 9, and then, through the elbow pipe 17, launches it vertically from bottom to top in the center of the cylindrical part at the same time, the steam is admitted into the chamber of the heater through the tube. lure 10.
The propeller thus imparts to the whole of the liquid contained in the apparatus a continuous movement from top to bottom in the reheater, and from bottom to top in the vaporizer. As a result of the great difference in level existing between the heater and the surface 18 of the liquid in the vaporiser apparatus, and also as a result of the excess pressure given by the helix, the total pressure to which is subjected this liquid as it passes through the tubes of the heater 9 allows it to heat up without boiling, to a temperature above that at which it would boil under the pressure prevailing above the free level of the liquid 18. On the other hand, when the liquid thus overheated coming out of the heater comes.
lead into. the vaporizer by the elbow 17, and that it goes up in the pipe 3. it starts to boil under the effect of the decrease in hydrostatic pressure.
The degree of superheating given by the superheater is set so that the boiling begins in the lower parts of cone 2. The vapor produced by the boiling liquid is released at the surface of the liquid and is discharged at the upper part. vaporizer 1.
At the same time, salt crystals arise in the boiling mass. Under the effect of its weight, each nascent crystal tends to reach the bottom of the vaporizer, but due to the conical shape of part 2, the speed of vertical circulation from bottom to top undergone by the liquid is maximum in the cylindrical part 3 and decreases in the upper layers;
this speed is opposed to the descent of the fine crystals which have not yet acquired a certain weight, so that these are kept in suspension in the boiling mass where they are forced to feed and grow up to When, their weight outweighing the dynamic thrust to which the ascending flow of the liquid subjects them, they can wind through the cylindrical part 3 and reach the deposition chamber 4.
L The ascending current plays in the vaporizer and mainly in the cylindrical part 3, the role of classifier opposing the entry of the crystals into the deposit chamber l +, as long as they have not reached a sufficient size, size which also depends on the speed given to the liquid in the cylindrical part 3.
A certain part of the fine crystals can be entrained by the liquid which enters the propulsion pump, but the construction of the latter, which is reduced to a simple propeller rotating in a circular box, is opposed to obstructions by crystals, and, on the other hand, as this pump is entirely immersed in the boiling liquid, that it does not have a suction pipe, and that its discharge pipe is also submerged in the boiling liquid on the greater part of its length, it lies perfectly ca lorifuge.
In this way, deposits of salts are avoided which, as a result of cooling, still attach to the walls of the pipes and circulation pumps and prevent them from functioning when these are placed outside the devices.
