Description

Sound damper gasket, for internal pipes. The object of the invention is a sound absorber joint for internal pipes, having a damping member arranged to damp both the transmission of longitudinal vibrations and of lateral vibrations from one to the other of the pipes that the joint connects.

The accompanying drawing shows, by way of example, an embodiment of the invention, in axial section.

a and b are the two pipes of the canali zation which it is a question of joining together by the damping joint of either.

The pipe a carries a connector c, the part c 'of which forms, with either screw cover e, a kind of gland, in which is housed a gasket of elastic material (preferably rubber) d having two on conical faces d1 and d2 resting, one on a corresponding conical surface of the connector c, the other against the inner conical surface of a metal ring ci pressed downwards by the screw cover e.

It follows from the assembly of this device that, by screwing the cover e on the connection c, the gasket d is compressed both in the direction of its length and in the direction of its diameter, against the screwed tubing b1 on the pipe b.

This effect could also be obtained using a lining similar to d, of which either the surface d 'or the surface d2 would be replaced by a bearing surface forming a plane perpendicular to the axis of the pipes or by a bearing surface of curved profile (for example in an arc of a circle). The elastic lining d dampens the propagation of transverse vibrations as well as longitudinal vibrations of the connected pipes, the sounds of which would otherwise hit each other over the entire route of the pipe.

In addition to the vibrations which occur in the pipes as a result of shocks given to any part of them, there is often an internal noise in water pipes, probably due to air bubbles which appear. 'accumulate over time in enlargements such as c2, in pipe joints.

It has been established experimentally that this drawback can be overcome by supplementing the seal described above with an interior seal b2 log @ _ '@ _ in the tubing bi. In the form of execution shown,

this gasket is fornu'e of a rubber sleeve whose profile faith me a progressive and decreasing constriction for the liquid circulating in the pipe. It has also been found experimentally that the same effect can be obtained by using a wire wound in spirals, either in the form of a rod or in the form of a conical spur.
