nella fig. 1 una vista laterale ingrandita in esploso di un esempio realizzativo dell'insieme secondo l'invenzione; nella fig. 2 una vista laterale dell'insieme della fig. 1 nella situazione in cui utensile e mandrino portautensile sono fra loro assemblati;
nella fig. 3 la vista prospettica parziale del gambo dell'utensile delle fig. 1 e 2 sezionato in corrispondenza della sua sezione trasverale minima, resa tale per l'esecuzione di un taglio che lo divide in due parti specularmente simmetriche;
nella fig. 4 un diagramma in cui si vede orientativamente il rapporto fra il diametro del gambo di un utensile dell'insieme secondo l'invenzione e la velocità di rotazione prevista durante le lavorazioni;
- si riduce convenientemente l'area resistente della detta sezione Sm;
- non si diminuisce in modo sensibile la massa di ciascuna delle dette due parti 24 e 25, che influenza il valore delle forze centrifughe agenti su di esse;
The present invention relates to the technological field of machine tools which carry out machining operations by removal of shavings by means of the rotation of tools and tool-holding spindles made mutually integral by locking.
More specifically, the invention relates to an assembly consisting of a tool and tool holder spindle for processes such as drilling, reaming, threading, tapping and the like, which is particularly suitable in cases where said processes require to be performed with high working speeds by means of a also a very large number of heads or work stations which involve the existence and simultaneous operation of numerous groups, or sets of tools and tool holder spindles.
In the case of such processes, according to the current state of the art, the tooling time of a multiple work unit of the type mentioned above is very high, and the time required for the replacement or replacement of the tools is also high, in how much their locking and unlocking with respect to the relative spindles is usually carried out by screwing and unscrewing ring nuts which compress the end part (also called pliers) of the spindle which is elastically yielding in that it is obtained by means of flexible parts separated from each other by cuts.
The inventor of the present invention has provided a solution which makes the tooling and similar operations already mentioned much shorter, since the locking between the tool and the tool holder spindle is carried out and maintained by the centrifugal force which acts on the tool during the different processing.
This has been achieved by the inventor by making the tool shank elastically expandable, by operating one or more diametral cuts on it in ways that will be described in greater detail in the rest of the present discussion which divide it into several shelf-shaped parts which bend towards the external in the radial direction due to the centrifugal force, generating on the internal walls of the spindle cavity in which the said shank is housed, sufficient friction forces to keep the tool reliably locked at any time of the machining, winning both the moment due to the 'tool inertia during any acceleration and deceleration phases, both the forces and the moments of axial and tangential reactions of the piece that is being machined.
The object of the present invention consists in fact of a set of tool and tool holder mandrel as described in the preamble of the attached claim 1, characterized by the characterizing part of the same claim.
To better illustrate the invention and the advantages that can be achieved with it, a more detailed description of some of its preferred embodiments will now be carried out, also referring for greater clarity to the attached drawings, which represent:
in fig. 1 an enlarged exploded side view of an embodiment of the assembly according to the invention; in fig. 2 a side view of the assembly of fig. 1 in the situation in which the tool and the tool holder spindle are assembled together;
in fig. 3 is a partial perspective view of the tool shank of fig. 1 and 2 sectioned at its minimum transversal section, made such for the execution of a cut that divides it into two specularly symmetrical parts;
in fig. 4 shows a diagram showing roughly the relationship between the diameter of the shank of a tool of the assembly according to the invention and the rotation speed expected during the machining operations;
in fig. 5 is an exploded side view of another embodiment of an assembly according to the invention, in which the tool holder mandrel is of the "clamp" type.
In figs. 1 and 2 represent, as mentioned, an embodiment of the invention preferred by the inventor for its practicality and for its cost-effectiveness: the assembly 10 is constituted by a tool-holder mandrel 4, not shaped like a pliers, but simply having a cavity cylindrical 4c, and by a tool 1 comprising a tip 2 (designed in a generic way) provided with a shank 3 complementary to the said cavity 4c of the mandrel 4.
The terminal portion 3t of the free end of said stem 3 is divided into two specularly symmetrical parts 24, 25 of length L by means of a diametrical cut 7, which lies on a plane passing through the longitudinal axis xx of the tool 1.
During the working rotation at high angular speed of the assembly 10, and therefore also of the tool 1, due to the centrifugal acceleration, radial forces develop which tend to radially bend the two said parts 24, 25 outwards, which they behave like brackets constrained on their minimum attachment section Sm to the remaining part of tool 1.
Given the entity of the rotation speed which (it can reach or exceed 120 000 revolutions per minute) even parts 24, 25 of limited mass exert on the internal wall 6 of said cavity 4c some significant forces, which generate frictional forces in any case sufficient to keep the tool 1 rigidly locked within the cavity 4c at any stage of the processing.
In particular, the parts making up the shank 3 of the tool 1 must be sized so that the aforementioned radial centrifugal forces give rise to a resulting frictional force FA exerted on the tool 1 (see fig. 3) which can be broken down into a first component. F1, parallel to the xx axis of the assembly 10, capable of compensating the axial reaction force Fr exerted on the tool 1 by the piece (not shown) while it is being worked, and in a second component F2, perpendicular to the first, suitable for form a friction moment MA with respect to the xx axis of the opposite direction and able to compensate at any instant the sum Mi + r of the moment Mr due to the tangential reaction force exerted on tool 1 by the piece being machined plus the moment Mi due to the inertia of the tool 1 itself during any variations in its angular speed.
It should be noted that, naturally, for the same mass and length of the parts 24, 25 of the stem 3, the lower their minimum attachment section Sm, the greater the elastic yielding arrow towards the outside of the parts 24, 25 themselves, and consequently the force exerted by them against the internal wall 6 of the cavity 4c which houses them is also much greater.
A diametrical cut 7 of considerable thickness would therefore seem at first sight to be advantageous in order to increase the friction forces: in reality the inventor has instead found that it is much more advantageous to obtain the cut 7, without oversizing its thickness s, with a section longitudinal "T" with the shorter side 7c facing the tip 2 of the tool 1 perpendicular to its xx axis and the longer side 71 facing the free end of the shank 3 parallel to said axis.
By operating in this direction, the following favorable results are obtained simultaneously:
- the resistant area of said section Sm is conveniently reduced;
- the mass of each of said two parts 24 and 25 is not significantly decreased, which influences the value of the centrifugal forces acting on them;
- a limited quantity of material must be removed to make the cut 7 on the stem 3.
In the start-up phases, phases in which the rotation speed is low, as well as in the stand-by phases with stationary, i.e. non-rotating tools, a tool 1, in a set according to the invention, is solidly held locked in the spindle 4 for effect of the pressure exerted radially on it by an elastic sealing ring 9 (of the O-ring type) contained in an annular housing 8 obtained in said cavity 4c of the mandrel 4.
As an indication, it is provided in fig. 4 shows a diagram showing how convenient it is to vary the external diameter of the shank 3 of a tool 1 in a set according to the invention according to the variation of the rotation speed foreseen.
As can be seen in fig. 5, to make another type of assembly 11 according to the invention, it is also possible to use a collet mandrel 14 of a known type.
In this case, at zero or low rotation speeds, the fixing of the tool 1 in the cavity 14c which houses it can be carried out by exploiting the elasticity of the gripper itself.
A tool 1 suitable for an assembly 10, 11 should preferably be made of tungsten steel and its shank 3 should be reinforced by means of a coating consisting of an external layer of abrasion-resistant steel, possibly of the stainless type due to the high friction coefficient connected to the latter.
It is evident that an assembly according to the invention can also be made with shapes and dimensions of the components other than those indicated in the embodiments so far considered, which are particularly suitable for micro-drilling cases with multiple heads at high rotation speeds, as in the case drilling of packs of printed circuit boards of the multilayer type.
Other embodiments of the whole of the invention which a person skilled in the art can obtain on the basis of what is expressed in the attached claim 1 will however be included in the scope of the protection conferred by the present patent application. For example, the terminal part 3t of the shank 3 of a tool 1 can also be divided, by means of several planes containing its x-x axis, into more than two parts, symmetrical or not, in the case of particular design requirements that require it.
