The invention relates to a wheel hub assembly according to claim 1 for cars or trucks, with a hub and a brake disc.
In previously known constructions, the brake disk is connected to the hub on the vehicle side. A vehicle wheel is attached using wheel bolts which engage in corresponding threaded bores in the hub.
In view of these circumstances, the inventor has set himself the task of creating a wheel hub arrangement of the type mentioned at the outset, in which the brake disc can be assembled and disassembled in a few simple steps without opening the wheel bearing. In addition, a simple and inexpensive modular construction from a few individual parts is intended to enable a range of wheel hub arrangements. The combination of a suitable design and a suitable choice of materials result in a comparatively light construction.
In order to achieve the object according to the invention, the brake disc is arranged as a component separate from the hub between a wheel flange for fastening a vehicle wheel and the hub and is detachably fixed to the hub by screwing the wheel flange to it.
In addition to simple assembly and disassembly of the brake disc, the three-part construction of a wheel hub arrangement according to the invention also enables the provision of different types by assembling different individual parts. In addition, different materials can be combined with little effort, which is only possible with one-piece casting with composite casting.
In an expedient embodiment of the wheel hub arrangement according to the invention, the brake disc rests with a flange ring on the end face of the hub and, in a preferred variant, is connected to the flange ring via a tubular intermediate piece which preferably overlaps the hub.
The wheel flange preferably also rests with a disk-shaped flange part on the flange ring of the brake disk. In a preferred embodiment of the wheel hub arrangement according to the invention, the wheel flange engages over the flange ring with an annular bead to form a snug fit.
The wheel flange and the brake disc can be fixed to the hub in a known manner by means of screws which engage in corresponding threaded bores in the hub. The materials used to manufacture the usually cast individual parts depend on the required mechanical properties and the field of application of the wheel hub arrangement. Suitable materials are, for example, spheroidal graphite cast iron or aluminum alloys.
Further advantages, features and details of the invention emerge from the following description of a preferred exemplary embodiment and with reference to the drawing; this shows schematically in its single figure a cross section through a wheel hub arrangement according to the invention.
A wheel hub assembly 10 has three main components, hub 12, brake disc 14 and wheel flange 16.
The hub 12 can be made of steel, ductile cast iron or aluminum or light metal and comprises two bearings 18 with rolling elements 20 each between an outer ring 22 and an inner ring 24. The bearing 18 can be made of different chrome or case-hardened steels with the material coordinated heat treatments exist. The bearing 18 is operated under prestress in the predominant area of its employment, which results in a rigid arrangement which tends to tilt little.
The inner rings 24 of the bearing 18 are braced during assembly on the journal (not shown) by a nut, also not shown, the end faces of the inner rings touching or being able to touch.
The left bearing 18 is made smaller in diameter than the right bearing, the ratio d / D being 0.7 to 0.95. These two bearings are braced against each other, whereby a high load capacity is achieved.
The retaining ring 47 is suitable for connecting the wheel hub assembly 10, which consists of all parts, to the bearing 18 to form a captive unit, both during transport and during assembly or disassembly on or from the axle journal (not shown).
If necessary, the retaining ring 47 can be designed as a protection against escaping lubricant. The retaining ring 47 is shown lying in the bore of the inner rings 24. Alternatively, the retaining ring 47 can also be designed on the outer diameter of the inner rings 24.
The wheel flange 16 can also be made of steel, ductile cast iron or light metal.
The brake disc 14 has a cylindrical intermediate piece 28 which opens into a flange ring 26. The flange ring 26 bears against the end face 13 of the hub 12 and the tubular intermediate piece 28, which is concentric with the hub axis x, engages over the hub 12 in a force-fitting manner.
The wheel flange 16 lies against the flange ring 26 with a disk-shaped flange part 30 and overlaps it with an annular bead 32 to form a snug fit.
The assembly of the three main components to form the wheel hub arrangement 10 takes place via corresponding bores 34, 36 in the flange ring 26, each of which is penetrated by a screw 40 inserted into a corresponding threaded bore 38.
An annular flange 42, which forms the outer circumference of the wheel flange 16, is provided with holes 44 for fastening a vehicle wheel. The central area of the wheel flange 16 is shaped into a curved cap 46, which forms a cover for a bearing screw connection of the hub 12, not shown in the drawing.
The central region 46 of the wheel flange 16 can alternatively be designed as a cover.
