Darin zeigen:
Fig. 1 eine schematische Darstellung der gesamten Vorrichtung;
Fig. 2 eine erste Ausführung des Applikationsraums, und
Fig. 3 eine zweite Ausführung des Applikationsraums.
The invention relates to a device for heating liquids by means of microwaves, with an application space and at least one passage for the liquid through the application space, in particular for the continuous synthesis of chemical substances.
The synthesis of various substances in chemistry usually has to be carried out under heat and often also under pressure. To date, such processes are usually heated conventionally, that is, by heat transfer in metal containers, or by hot steam, hot flames or infrared radiation. The known microwave applications for this purpose are usually carried out in batches, in special containers that can be used in microwave ovens. According to a patent of the CSIRO company in Australia, a line is passed through a microwave oven in which the liquid is heated during the process.
These known microwave heaters work inefficiently, are space-consuming and cannot be easily integrated into a system. The task is to design a device of the type mentioned at the outset in such a way that it works efficiently and at the same time can be built very compactly.
This object is achieved by the device defined in the claims. The microwave line itself thus acts as an application room. The microwave energy, which passes through the microwave line in the axial direction, is absorbed along the bushing in the liquid and possibly also in the walls of the bushing and heats it up. The efficiency can be increased by running the microwave twice through the line if it is reflected at the end of the line.
An exemplary embodiment of the invention is explained in more detail below with reference to the drawings.
In it show:
Figure 1 is a schematic representation of the entire device.
Fig. 2 shows a first embodiment of the application room, and
Fig. 3 shows a second embodiment of the application room.
1, the individual components of the device are only shown in block form because, with the exception of the microwave line 1 constructed according to the invention, commercially available components are available which do not require a detailed description.
The microwave line 1 is connected downstream of a microwave transmitter 3. On the one hand, microwave energy is fed through this line 1, while at the same time a liquid feedthrough 2 is provided in order to lead the liquid to be heated through the microwave line 1 and at the end again. The necessary microwave energy is generated in the microwave transmitter 3 and passes through the line 1 in the axial direction. A waveguide or a coaxial line can be provided as line 1. The latter has the advantage that it can be built very compact and miniaturized and can be used regardless of the frequency used. 2 and 3 show corresponding statements.
Since the field density in the coaxial conductor increases towards the inner conductor 4, the liquid feedthrough is guided as far as possible around the inner conductor 4 and thus through the zone of greatest field density, which results in an optimal coupling of the energy to the liquid. The line termination 5 on the side opposite the microwaves transmitter 3 can be designed such that the non-absorbed energy is absorbed at the end of the microwave line.
On the other hand, however, the line end can instead be designed as a short circuit 6, or the line can be short-circuited directly, so that the excess energy is reflected back into the line and returned to the transmitter. As a result, part of the energy is coupled into the liquid again, which increases the efficiency. However, it is necessary that a circulator 7 is switched on at the beginning of the line between the transmitter and the line, which separates the reflected energy that is still not absorbed from the fed-in energy and leads to a line termination 8.
The passage 2 for the liquid through the microwave line 1 can be designed in various ways.
According to the example in FIG. 2, a tube 9 made of microwave-permeable material is arranged between the outer conductor 10 and the inner conductor 4 of the coaxial conductor, preferably close to the inner conductor. The hose is led into or out of the conductor via an inlet or outlet connection 11.
In the example according to FIG. 3, empty support tubes 12 are provided in addition to the tube 9 for the passage of the liquid, which serve as support for the inner conductor 4 in the outer conductor 10. Inert materials, such as fluoroplastics or high-purity ceramics, are suitable as the material for the feedthrough or the hose 9. The hose can also be made from a semi-microwave transparent material, as described in German patent application No. 90 120 947.8. This enables the line to be heated by the microwave, which then releases the heat to the liquid. This is particularly important for the synthesis of liquids that are difficult or impossible to heat using microwaves.
In the case of microwave conductors that contain a dielectric, the feedthrough can be designed as a channel in the dielectric (not shown).
Fig. 1 shows a system constructed according to the principles explained for continuous synthesis under heating and pressure.
The liquid is pumped into the feedthrough 2 with a pump 14 and passed through the microwave line 1 under monitored pressure. The liquid can then be cooled to normal temperature in a downstream cooling device 15. A downstream valve 16 also allows the pressure and the delivery of the liquid to be controlled.
Fiber-optic temperature sensors 17, which are connected to a temperature monitor 18, can be installed in the microwave line. This can be part of a temperature regulation or control, which can take place, for example, via the feed device 19 of the microwave transmitter 3. The whole system, i.e. in particular the pressure control by the pump 14 or the valve 16 and the temperature control by the sensors 17 can be computer-controlled, so that a continuous process sequence is established.
