Abstract
The closure of a plastic container has a lid with a part which engages the top of the container and has a U-section, includes a sealing ring, and has a circumferential groove with reinforcing ribs; the top of the container sides is thicker and the lid has an inner rib which engages this. At least the radius of curvature of the top edge of the closure part is smaller than that of its inside edge, and the outside of the top of the closure is tapered down towards its top. ADVANTAGE - The design enables the container with a 30 kg filling to drop from a height of 1.20 metres at an angle of 45 degrees on to its closure without fracture. It is no heavier or dearer than the existing design which only withstands a drop of 80 cm.
Description
BESCHREIBUNG
Fig. 3 zeigt eine Ausschnittsvergrösserung von Fig. 1.
DESCRIPTION
The present invention relates to a closure on a plastic container, with a lid with a U-shaped design, containing two walls and encompassing the upper end of the container wall, with an inserted seal and a circumferential groove adjoining the closure part with therein arranged reinforcing ribs, the upper end of the container wall a thickening and the lid one of these
Has thickening rib behind engaging.
Such a closure is known from EP-B-0 052 172 and has proven itself very well. In this plastic container, the polygonal flange is particularly important, since it is particularly suitable for transport by train or truck and because of its reclosability after removal of the goods, such as paint, can be used again. For certain goods and in some countries, the regulations are stricter than those that this known container can meet. So is in some
Countries regulation for approval that the container with
30 kg of content is dropped at an incline of 45 "from a drop height of 1.2 m, so that the container lid must not open and the lid and container should not be permanently deformed.
The known one
Container was designed for a drop height of 80 cm and it is therefore an object of the present invention to provide a plastic container that with a content of 30 kg egg nem impact from a drop height of 1.20 m and at an inclination angle of 45 "on that In addition, the manufacture should not become more difficult and therefore more expensive than the previously known closure part. This task is solved with a closure part defined in the patent claims.
The invention is explained in more detail below with reference to a drawing of exemplary embodiments:
Fig. 1 shows in section a part of the inventive
Closure part on a container,
Fig. 2 shows the part of Fig. 1 in plan view, and
FIG. 3 shows an enlarged detail from FIG. 1.
One can see in FIG. 3 the lid 1 with the closure part 2, which extends around the outer wall 3 of the container
Wall 4, a wall 5 reaching into the container wall and an adjoining wall 6, the walls 5 and 6 forming a circumferential groove 7. The wall 6 merges into a circumferential bead 8, which serves for reinforcement. The container wall 3 has a polygonal flange 9 from bottom to top, on which in a known manner
Way (see EP-B-052 172) groups of ribs may be angeord net, which serve as locking means. The container wall
3 also has a circumferential, outwardly angled rib 10 forming a cutting edge 1 and at the top a thickened end 12.
The two walls 4 and 5 of the closure part 2 encompassing the container wall form an interior space 13 at the top for receiving a seal 14 and the outer wall has a circumferential rib 15 which has the thickened end
12 engages behind the container wall. This can thicken
End 12, as shown in Fig. 3, be formed barb-shaped. The cams 16 serve for better hold and compression of the seal 14.
It has now been found that the resistance to impacts, measured by means of an impact from a certain height, for example 1.2 m, the container being filled with a mass of 30 kg and under one
An angle of 45 "is dropped on a steel plate, which can be increased significantly by making the outer surface
17 of the top part of the outer wall 4 with respect to the
Tapered towards the container wall to a beveled
Form area, and that the radius of the upper outer edge 18 must be smaller than the radius 19 of the corresponding inner edge. It is also advantageous if the
Radius of the outer edge 20 of the inner wall 5 is smaller than the corresponding radius of the inner edge 21.
By chamfering the outer surface 17 and
Using a small radius for the outer edge 18 and the edge 20, it was surprisingly found that the resistance to a crack on the lid had increased to a very considerable extent. A further improvement was achieved by choosing a sealing ring with a diameter D that is narrower in the radial direction than the corresponding diameter of the inner space 13, since this makes the upper part of the sealing part, and in particular the beveled area, resilient with the outer edge without a shock the seal is passed directly to the inner part of the cover, so that the momentum is damped.
A further increase in resilience, or
further means for shock absorption and shock distribution are shown in FIG. 2. It can be seen that reinforcing ribs 22 are arranged in the circumferential groove and, as can be seen from FIG. 2, are arranged non-radially. The non-radial reinforcing ribs 22 are also curved, running away from the center of the cover. The same non-radial ribs can also be arranged on the bottom of the container. It is also possible to arrange rectilinear, non-radial ribs both on the lid and on the bottom. In Fig. 3 it can be seen that the reinforcing ribs 22 have a shoulder 23 which, as shown in Fig. 1, serves as the centering for a container to be stacked over it. This ensures good stackability.
A tear-off tape 24 adjoins the outer wall 4 of the closure part, the perforations 25 being located between the tape and the container wall opposite the cutting edge 11 of the circumferential rib 10. As can be seen from FIG. 2, an eyelet 26 pointing downward and a wider handle 27 also pointing downward are attached to the tear-off tape. There is a weakening point 28 on each side of the handle 27 in order to open the tear-off tape without the use of tools. As can also be seen from FIG. 2, the tear-off band spans the entire circumference of the cover except for the point at which the handle 27 is fastened. After the tear-off tape has been torn open and torn away, the lid can be easily opened using the handle 27. In addition to the function of securing the cover, the tear-off tape also has the task of helping to distribute the forces that arise in the event of a fall.
Therefore, it must also be dimensioned accordingly and not burst in the event of an impact. The thickness of the tear-off tape depends on the material, which of course also applies to the entire plastic container. This is usually made from a thermoplastic.
As in the known example, the plastic container can have holding cams distributed around the circumference at the upper edge and the lid corresponding openings 29 and a centering groove below each opening, these grooves snap into place when the lid is placed by turning on the holding cams, after which the lid can be pressed down.
It is also possible to provide a spout on the lid, which can be made of metal, for example, or can be made of a soft plastic and extendable.
From the above description it is apparent that both the lid and the container can each be made in one piece from injection molding. In the description and in the drawing, a preferred exemplary embodiment of a closure having a tear-off tape which is fastened and produced in one piece on the outer wall has been described. However, the measures to increase the resistance are not primarily linked to this version with the tear-off tape and can of course also develop their full effectiveness on a closure without a tear-off tape.
