Abstract
The power driven tool for cleaning teeth after dental work is a brush (2) connected to a mandrel (1) for rotation by a suitable tool. The bristles of the brush are in helical formation. They are retained between two helically twisted wires (4), and a single length of wire bent over at one end (5) can be used, with the two ends twisted together. USE - For removing residual cedment, dentine and tooth fragments from the spaces between teeth using a washing fluid.
Description
BESCHREIBUNG
DESCRIPTION
The present invention relates to a device for cleaning gaps or cavities in teeth according to the preamble of independent claim 1.
All dental preparations leave an amorphous layer of dirt that adheres to dental surfaces due to electrostatic forces. Such layers can contain microorganisms that can multiply. Particularly in the case of root canals for posts to build up dental crowns, the risk of bacterial infection in the area near the dentin must be kept as low as possible, since the resulting infections can result in loss of retention, corrosion on the post and broken cement closure.
As is well known, rinsing the canal alone cannot provide sufficient cleaning. Dentists therefore tried to dry the canal with paper tips or by blowing it out or by other means. However, mechanical cleaning without changing the channel itself was either very time-consuming or impossible, so there was always a latent danger of later foci of infection.
It is therefore an object of the invention to provide a device with which, in addition to interdental spaces and under bridges, root canals can also be effectively cleaned.
According to the invention this is achieved by the features in the characterizing part of independent claim 1.
An embodiment of the invention is explained below with reference to the drawing. The single figure shows a view of a device according to the invention.
This embodiment consists of a mandrel 1 for attachment to a handpiece and an elongated brush 2 axially attached thereto. This brush consists of bristles 3 which are held between two twisted wires 4. The two wires 4 are connected in one piece and at the free end by the loop 5. In order to be able to clean well also in cavern-like cavities, bristles 4 are also arranged in the loop 5.
Experiments have shown that when the brush 2 is rotated slowly and the handpiece is moved up and down at the same time, cement residues can be removed from the channel walls. After such mechanical cleaning, the brush should be rinsed with water in 5% sodium hypochlorite or 3% hydrogen peroxide and slowly rotated again in the channel. Tissue residues, broken tooth or cement residues and dentin can be scraped out with this. 96% alcohol introduced into the channel with this brush causes it to dry. After such treatment, the channel is completely free of dirt and well prepared for attaching the pen.
