Abstract
A watch dial comprising a sheet of glass or a semiprecious stone (34) and a metal dressing (36) is manufactured as follows: the sheet (34) is coated with a thin opaque metal layer (35) by vacuum evaporation. Hour signs in gold may be formed first of all and the whole then coated with a second layer of silver. The sheet (34) is next incorporated in the die (29) for adhesive bonding. The faces of the cavity are coated with a layer of copper (38) and the die is placed in a galvanic bath from which a metal such as nickel or copper is deposited in the cavity and forms the body (36). The latter is machined along the surfaces (37). The die is dissolved away and the usual feet can be welded on the reverse of the body (36). <IMAGE>
