Abstract

A filter for tobacco smoke, in particular a cigarette filter, contains a tetrapyrrole pigment containing complexed iron such as haemoglobin or chlorocruorin, and optionally also a metal or a metal salt or oxide capable of fixing CO or of converting it to CO2. [lacuna] harmful gaseous constituents of the smoke, namely CO, HCN and nitrogen oxides.
