Abstract

An electronic stop watch contains a time-counting circuit (26), which commences counting due to a start signal, and a digital display device (33) having double-digit display compartments (32a, 32b) for the purpose of displaying the time measured by the time-counting circuit (26). A detector (44) is provided for scanning whether a counter reading of the time-counting circuit (26) has reached a specific value which can be displayed by the display device (33). An output signal from the detector (44) serves as a command signal for switching the display in order to control the counting signals transmitted by the time-counting circuit (26) to the display device (33), with the result that the display device (33) can display the time, in accordance with the counter reading of the time-counting circuit in large time units, e.g. in hours and minutes, instead of in small time units, e.g. in minutes and seconds, after a scanning signal has been transmitted by the detector (44). <IMAGE>
