Abstract

Paper folding machine for producing set pattern has feeler mechanism for sheet width controlling feed and deflector between folding units

Description

Fig. 2 eine entsprechende Zweifachfaltung,
Fig. 3 eine analoge Doppel-Zweifachfaltung und

The present invention relates to a paper folding machine, in particular for folding technical drawings and geographical plans to a predetermined landscape format.

The folding of large-sized sheets of paper on a predetermined, for storage z. B. in a folder suitable format, for example A4, with automatic mechanical means places high demands on the folding machines to be used. In particular, the transverse folding of sheets of paper that have already been folded and folded in the longitudinal direction is difficult.

Up to now, no machine is known by means of which longitudinally folded paper sheets of any width within certain limits are automatically and correctly folded transversely so that at least the sheet on top of the finished folded paper has exactly the predetermined format. Such transverse folding has so far only been carried out by hand, although in large industrial plants, planning and architecture offices there are often tons of plans and technical drawings whose format is larger than the one in which they or their copies are ultimately to be stored.

The present invention is therefore based on the object of proposing a paper folding machine by means of which sheets of paper that have already been folded and collapsed in the longitudinal direction can be folded and put together in the transverse direction to a predetermined format. This machine should in particular also meet the following conditions. At least the top sheet of the folded sheet of paper should be given the desired landscape format. All underlying leaf layers should either have the same or a smaller landscape format. The machine should be able to fold all paper formats fed into it to the predetermined landscape format, the total width of which is between the predetermined width and four times the same.

In the paper folding machine according to the invention, this object is achieved in that it has scanning means for determining the approximate total width of the sheet of paper to be transversely folded and a feed unit controlled depending on the measurement result of this scanning means for correct positioning of the material to be folded before the folding process is triggered, as well as two folding units and one between these folding units has lying, depending on the measurement result of the scanning means controlled execution device.

An advantageous embodiment of the invention is characterized in that the two folding units each contain at least one folding blade driven by a crank mechanism and two feed rollers.

The paper folding machine according to the invention has the particular advantage that it is able to automatically fold and collapse longitudinally folded sheets of paper of different width, length and thickness in the transverse direction to a predetermined format without setting and regulating work.

Further advantages and details of an exemplary embodiment of the paper folding machine according to the invention emerge from the following description, which is based on the accompanying drawing. Show it
1 schematically shows a single fold made by means of the folding machine according to the invention,
2 shows a corresponding double fold,
3 shows an analog double-double fold and
4 shows a side view of the corresponding embodiment of the paper folding machine according to the invention.

Fig. 1 shows schematically the sequence of a simple folding process, as it is necessary when the transversely folded sheet of paper 1 in its overall width GB is greater than the width 1F but smaller than the width 2F of the finished folded paper sheet. It is easy to see that the sheet of paper 1, which has already been folded and collapsed in the longitudinal direction, must be conveyed over the two feed rollers 2 and 3 up to the stop 4 under the vertically displaceable folding blade 5 in order to be folded and folded to the predetermined fold width 1F. If the folding blade 5 is moved down between the two feed rollers 2 and 3 at the moment when the sheet of paper 1 to be folded has reached the abovementioned stop position, it is folded at point I in the direction indicated.

By means of the two feed rollers 2 and 3 rotating in the direction of the arrow, which are flexibly pressed against one another by springs (not shown here), the sheet of paper 1 folded by the folding blade 5 and inserted between them is folded and pressed. The completely folded and folded sheet of paper is then guided out of the machine via the two-legged, swiveled-in slide track 6, 6 'and the conveyor belt 7.

If the ratio of the total width GB to the fold width 1F is such that 2F <GB <3F, the sheet of paper 1 'to be folded across is folded and folded as shown in FIG. This is initially the same as with the single fold according to FIG. 1. After the first folding process with the folding blade 5 and the folding of the sheet of paper 1 'by the feed rollers 2 and 3, the slide 6' is not swiveled in and the sheet of paper 1 'thus does not come over this on the conveyor belt 7, but for the purpose of a second folding process between the folding blade 8 and the two feed rollers 9 and 10 up to the stop 11.

In this stop position, the paper sheet 1 'is folded by means of the horizontally displaceable folding blade 8 and guided between the feed rollers 9 and 10, which fold it and push it onto the conveyor belt 7, which guides the completely folded and folded paper sheet 1' out of the machine.

If the total width GB is at most four times the fold width, but at least three times the fold width, i.e. 3F <GB64F, the sheet of paper 1 ″ to be cross-folded is folded and put together as shown in FIG.

The procedure is practically identical to that according to FIG. 2, the only difference being that before the first folding process by means of the folding blade 5, the sheet of paper 1 ″ not only up to the stop 4, but also beyond the stop 4 expressed in this case up to Stop 12. Then the folding operations take place as already described in connection with Fig. 2, but the horizontally displaceable sword 8 folds a double path of the paper sheet 1 ″ at the same time.

From the above description it emerges that by means of the paper folding machine according to the invention, all sheets of paper that have already been longitudinally folded can be folded and put together with a total width of up to four times the folding width to the predetermined landscape format.

From FIG. 4 one can see an exemplary structure of the paper folding machine, although all parts that are not essential for an understanding of its mode of operation have been omitted.

First of all, the two folding units I and II already mentioned above can be seen, which are arranged one above the other offset by 900 to one another. As already mentioned, the upper folding unit consists of the folding blade 5 and the two axially parallel feed rollers 2 and 3. The folding blade 5 is mounted in a guide 13 and is moved up and down by means of a lever 15 operated by a crank 14. This type of drive of the folding sword 5 provided with one or more fixation needles 16 has the advantage that its movement takes place continuously and not intermittently.

It is particularly advantageous that with an arrangement of the crank mechanism according to the drawing, when the crank 14 is rotated in the direction of the arrow at a constant rotational speed, the downward movement of the folding blade 5 takes longer than the upward movement, thereby avoiding tearing of the folded item. The crank 14 and with it the lever 15 and the folding blade 5 are driven by a motor 17, for the operation of which a control of a known type, not shown here, is provided. The lever 15 is pivoted about its bearing 18 and moves the folding sword 5, which is provided with a driving pin 19, up and down in its vertical guide 13.

During the downward movement, the folding blade 5 is guided with its lower folding edge and the fixation needles 16 onto the sheet of paper, not shown here, which is pressed onto the support surface 21 by means of a frame 20 and which, as shown in dotted lines, bends between the two feed rollers 2 and 3. These rollers 2 and 3, which rotate in the direction of the arrow, take over the folded sheet of paper from the retracting folding blade 5 and guide it downwards in the collapsed state.

The folding process and thus the downward movement of the folding blade 5 is only triggered when the sheet of paper to be transversely folded, depending on its overall width, rests either on the stop 4 or on the stop 12 and the frame 20, controlled in a known manner by the levers 37 and 38, presses the folded item. The movement leading the already longitudinally folded sheet of paper to one of these stops is effected by means of two rollers 22 and 24, the upper one of which is mounted on a lever 23 and is lowered onto the sheet of paper by a conventional mechanism, not shown, and rotated in the direction of the arrow.

The control of the stop 4 and of the part 6 'of the deflection device 6 that can be swiveled in and out takes place as a function of the measurement result relating to the total width GB of the sheet of paper to be folded across to the format 1F.

This measurement is carried out by means of photocells 25 and 26 which are arranged at a distance 2F and 3F, respectively, from the folding blade 5. If none of these photocells 25 and 26 is covered by the positioned sheet of paper, that is to say at the stop 5, then only the simple folding process described in connection with FIG. 1 is sufficient to collapse the sheet of paper in the transverse direction to the desired format. Thus, in this case, the part 6 'of the deflection device 6 is pivoted into the position shown in the drawing, so that the folded paper sheet emerging between the feed rollers 2 and 3 is directed onto the conveyor belt 7 and conveyed out of the folding machine.

If the photocell 25, which is arranged at a distance 2F from the folding blade 5, is covered by the sheet of paper at the stop 4, the latter must be folded and folded according to the folding process according to FIG. 2 in order to be brought to the desired format. This requires that the part 6 'of the deflection device 6 is pivoted into the vertical position shown in dash-dotted lines.

This can be achieved with known means, not shown here. If the total width of the sheet of paper to be folded across is so large that it covers not only the photocell 25 but also the photocell 26 when standing at the stop 4, the stop 4 is disengaged into the dash-dotted horizontal position and the sheet of paper through the two rollers 22 and 24 pushed on to the stop 12 before the lowering of the folding sword 5 is triggered. The part 6 'of the deflection device remains in its vertical position. In this case, the sheet of paper is folded and put together according to the folding processes explained with reference to FIG.

As already mentioned in connection with FIG. 1, the
Feed rollers 2 and 3 mounted resiliently displaceably by means of springs 27 and 28 in the horizonta Ler direction. This makes it possible for the rollers to take over the sheet of paper folded transversely by the folding blade 5 with a predetermined pressure from the folding blade 5, regardless of the number of sheet layers produced by the longitudinal folding.

Thanks to this elastic mounting of the rollers 2 and 3, the folding machine is practically insensitive to changing thicknesses of the folded material.

4 further shows that the second folding device II is practically identical to the folding device I. It also has a folding blade 8, two feed rollers 9 and 10 and a press frame 30 for pressing the paper sheet against a base 31 before it is folded . Likewise, in this folding device, the folding blade 8 is moved via a crank mechanism consisting of a crank 32 driven by a motor and a lever 34 actuated by this.

In contrast to the folding device I, the folding device II only has one stop 11 which is provided with a guide plate 35 to prevent the sheet of paper from slipping off. Photocells are not required in this folding device because it always folds the goods in the same place.

The conveyor belt 7 is arranged relative to this folding device II in such a way that it can directly take over the completely folded paper sheet emerging from the feed rollers 9 and 10. This second folding device II is put into operation as soon as the folded item introduced into it rests against the stop 11 and is pressed against the base 31 by the frame 30.

As can be seen from FIG. 4, the two folding devices I and II are mounted on a common machine frame 36.

The person skilled in the art easily recognizes that the described embodiment of the paper folding machine according to the invention is only one of many possible constructions. The folding machine according to the invention can be constructed differently with essential parts without falling outside the scope of protection applied for. For example, it is easily possible to arrange the two folding devices I and II in a different position relative to one another. Also, the sheet of paper to be folded transversely could not be introduced into the folding unit I transversely to the plane of the drawing, as in the machine construction described, but by means of a feed unit from a different direction. It is also obvious that, by means of the paper folding machine according to the invention, not only sheets of paper, but large-format sheets made of any other film material can be folded.
