The present invention relates to a device for fixing to a fabric or similar surface a button having at least two holes or a loop.
Different types of devices have already been proposed for the purpose of securing the wireless and needle-free buttons.
In one of the devices of this kind, a retaining plate has been manufactured with a wire the end of which is needle-cut. The needle thread is introduced from the inside through the fabric and held to it by the plate. On the other side of the fabric, the needle is passed through the holes or the loop of the button and then comes back to pierce the fabric in the other direction. Finally, the needle thread is attached in some way to the plate, before severing its end. Such a device is more akin to the usual means of fixing buttons than to new means which seek to eliminate the thread and the needle.
Indeed, the buttons fixed by means of this known device are linked to the fabric by two threads, crossing the fabric at two different points, and the necessary spacing between the button and the fabric for the introduction of the button in the buttonhole n ' is ensured that if the button, wire and plate assembly is relatively loose, which then has the disadvantage of lower tensile strength. In addition, the pad itself must be relatively large, under the fabric, to allow attachment of the thread. Finally, such a known device does not appear to lend itself equally well to industrial and automatic fixing of the buttons as to their manual fixing.
More recently, it has been proposed to solve the problem of fixing wireless and needle-free buttons a device comprising a flexible fastener, the central part of which, intended to form a loop through the orifices of the button, is delimited by two shoulders coming from apply against one side of the fabric. The ends of this tie end in spikes.
Joined together, these points are passed through the fabric and, subsequently, into the channel of a backing plate which clamps the fabric against the shoulders previously described. Adequate means make it possible to maintain the backing plate in the clamping position. Such a device meets the objective, since joined to each other the two branches of the fastener form only a connection between the button and the backplate, through a slot pierced in the fabric and ensuring satisfactory spacing between the button and the fabric. However, certain manufacturing and positioning difficulties appear with very small dimensions, which are those of fasteners provided for small buttons, for example for shirts.
In this case, the diameter of the holes in the button only allows a fastener of very small cross-section to pass, each of whose branches, cut into points, offers only with difficulty the resistance necessary axially to pierce the fabric and whose precision for a Proper attachment of the backplate may be disproportionate with the very low cost price at which the device must be produced. In addition, in the case of manual use of the attachment, there is a delicate handling problem.
The present invention obviates the respective drawbacks of the known devices and makes it possible to widen the field of use of the wireless and needle-free fastening means of buttons provided with at least two orifices or with a loop with a flexible attachment intended to form a loop through the holes or the button loop.
To this end, the device according to the invention is characterized in that one of the ends of the fastener comprises a shoulder which comes to rest on the outer face of the fabric, that this shoulder has an opening approximately perpendicular to the plane of said fabric, that the other end of the fastener is tapered to be introduced into the two holes or the loop of the button, then successively pass through the opening of said shoulder and the fabric in its thickness, that a backing plate is introduced on the 'tapered end of the fastener against the inner face of the fabric and that means make it possible to immobilize said backing plate in its position of clamping the fabric against said shoulder before cutting the tapered part of the fastener projecting from the backing plate.
A first advantage of this device is the simplification of its installation both industrially and manually, since the tapered end of the clip necessarily passes through the opening of the shoulder.
A second and very important advantage lies in the fact that a single rod, offering the largest possible section in relation to the orifices of the button, ensures the connection between the button and the backplate, only piercing the fabric. in one point.
Thirdly, the spacing of the button with respect to the fabric is given by the shoulder itself, the conformation of which can be arbitrary since it is not necessary to provide for the passage of this shoulder through any orifice. .
A fourth advantage, which follows from the previous one, is that by providing an approximately identical contact surface of the shoulder and of the backing plate, it is possible to constitute an optimum assembly for clamping the fabric.
Finally, it is obvious from what has just been said that, even in the smallest dimensions such as those of shirt buttons, for example, the characteristics specific to the material used to manufacture the fastener will present a maximum of qualities in the ratio of the stiffness required to ensure penetration of the tip of the fastener into the tissue to the flexibility required for placement of the device.
In all cases, the device according to the invention lends itself to simplified production of large series at a very low cost price, to industrialized fixing of buttons on fabrics or other similar surfaces, as well as to manual fixing of buttons. these same buttons, whether of the type with holes or loops, in particular for repairs.
The invention will be better understood with the aid of the following description with reference to the appended drawing in which:
fig. 1 is an elevational view of an exemplary embodiment of the device according to the invention, cut in the plane of symmetry of the fastener and a diametral plane of the button.
Fig. 2 shows a detail of FIG. 1 after severing the tip of the fastener.
Fig. 3 shows the detail of FIG. 2 in an alternative embodiment.
Fig. 4 shows a detail of FIG. 1, in an alternative embodiment and along the axis IV-IV of FIG. 5.
Fig. 5 is a bottom view of the device according to FIG. 4.
Fig. 6 is a view similar to that of FIG. 5, showing a variant.
Fig. 7 is a sectional view along VII-VII of the variant shown in FIG. 6.
Fig. 8 is a partial sectional view showing the same attachment to fabric of a buckle button instead of a perforated button.
Referring to fig. 1, we notice that the clip 1 has a shoulder in the form of a ring 2 pressed against the fabric 3.
The clip 1 has a generally circular section. The basic material is cut, molded or injected nylon thread.
The shoulder 2 provides a wide surface against the fabric. One can imagine that this surface is obtained by giving the end of the fastener the shape of a loop or ring, or by flattening this end, or by shaping it by molding or injection.
An opening 4 is made in the center of the shoulder 2 with an axis approximately perpendicular to the plane of the fabric 3.
The central part of the fastener, in the region of the button 5, comprises two shoulders 6a and 6b intended to retain the edges of the holes 7 and 8 of the button 5. These shoulders are not essential, but facilitate the maintenance of the button parallel to the button. tissue and away from it. Obtained by reducing the section of the fastener 1, the shoulders 6a, 6b however offer the advantage of increasing the flexibility of the fastener in this region, either to facilitate assembly or to improve the appearance of the binding. on the button.
On the side of the other end of the fastener, another circular shoulder 9 is obtained by reducing the diameter of the wire 1. This shoulder determines the size of the loop of the fastener, by preventing the passage of the wire in the opening. 4 beyond the stop.
The end 10 of the fastener is cut to a point, to pierce the fabric 3. Between the shoulder 9 and the point 10, the cylindrical surface of the fastener has annular grooves cut in the manner of a harpoon.
A backing plate 12, the bearing surface of which on the side of the fabric 3 preferably corresponds to that of the shoulder 2 on the other side of this fabric, has an axial channel 13 provided with similar annular grooves, but of cross section. very slightly larger, with the grooves 11. The backing plate 12 in which the end 10 of the fastener 1 is inserted, clamps the fabric 3 against the shoulder 2 which rests on the shoulder 9. In this clamping position, the annular protuberances 13 of the backing plate engage the annular protuberances 11 of the fastener, preventing the release of one part from the other.
Fig. 2 shows the attachment after cutting the tip 10 flush with the inner surface of the backing plate 12.
Referring to fig. 3, it can be seen that the immobilization of the backing plate 12a relative to the stop 2a of the fastener 1a in the clamping position of the fabric 3a is obtained by welding 14 of the fastener to the backing plate. This fastening is particularly suitable in the industrial installation of buttons where an automatic machine simultaneously cuts off the point (not shown) of the fastener and welds the adjacent surfaces thereof and of the backing plate.
In the variant shown in FIGS. 4 and 5 there is provided a bayonet fixing of the backing plate 12b on the fastener lb, the point 10b of which is shown. For this purpose, the fastener has lugs 15, 16 and 17, respectively 15a, 16a and 17a cooperating with grooves 18, 19 and 20 in the backing plate 12b for the passage of these lugs. The lower face of the counter-plate has three notches 21, 22 and 23 where the lugs are housed which, being in this case offset by 120, as well as the grooves 18, 19 and 20, must be moved by rotation of 60 of the backing plate to match the notches.
An identical system could be designed with two lugs and two notches and 90 ° rotation.
In fig. 6 and 7, there is shown the attachment lc, of oval section, introduced into the oval channel also 24 of the backing plate 12c. The notched lc fastener to obtain a circular section 25, allows, by pivoting the counter-plate 90, to ensure the locking thereof against the supports 26 and 27 thus formed on the fastener, which come s' press a circular notch cut halfway through the thickness of the backing plate 12c.
Finally, there is shown in FIG. 8 a button 28 of the loop type attached to a piece of fabric 3d. The fastener id has been passed through the loop 29. We can see the shoulder 2d resting on the visible face of the fabric.
Different types of locking or fixing of the plywood have been examined so far. In the context of the invention, other means are of course provided, for example screw.
In the case of industrial mounting of buttons on pieces of clothing, it is also possible to form the backing plate by hot deformation of the pointed part of the fastener, in the manner of riveting.
In the case of buttons with holes, provision is made to give the material of the fastener the appearance of thread, in particular by the color of the material of the fastener. Alternatively, a transparent material will make the clip almost invisible.
In the case of fixing the backplate as indicated in fig. 1, the relative elasticity of the material constituting the fastener with respect to the material of which the backing plate is formed ensures the positioning of the locking edges. The material of either part can be nylon, as indicated above, or any other plastic material. One of the parts, or even both parts, could also be made of flexible metal or, for the backing plate, of a rigid material. If the fastener is made of synthetic material, it is possible to envisage a reinforcement of its point, for example in the form of a metal core which has been manufactured with the body of the fastener.
