Abstract
The exhaust gas outlet noise damper has an outer tube enclosing a concentric perforated tube. This silencer is designed for noise suppression over a wide range of frequencies with maximum back pressure reduction. The inner tube (1) has at its midsection (2) a closing partition wall (4). The inner tube diameter is greater downstream of the partition wall and both tube sections are perforated with holes (5, 6). The inner tube is enclosed over its whole length by a cylindrical chamber whose outside wall is formed by the outside tube. The change in the chamber dimensions ensures good acoustic coupling and the narrower chamber acts as a suction resonator at low back pressure.
