It is particularly advantageous to add small amounts of organic bases during the acylation, such as. B. aniline, methylaniline, pyridine etc.
Those of the abovementioned heterocyclic diazo components which have a quaternizable nitrogen atom can also be oxidatively coupled in N-alkylated form as hydrazones or as azo sulfones [cf. Ange applied chemistry, volume 70, 215 (1958); Vol. 24, 818 (1962); Volume 343 (1968) 1.
Those of the novel compounds containing a quaternized amino group can (1) be obtained by quaternizing the corresponding dyes containing a non-quaternized amino group by treatment with alkylating agents; (2) by using quaternized coupling components, in particular those with aliphatic or cycloaliphatic ammonium groups, or by using already quaternized coupling components with benzoxazolium, benzimidazolium or benzthiazolium groups for coupling.
As an alkylating or quaternizing agent you can, for. B. perish: the methyl, ethyl, hydroxyethyl, cyanomethyl, n-propyl, n-butyl, ss-cyanoethyl, benzyl esters of hydrogen chloride, hydrogen bromide, hydrogen iodide, dimethyl and diethyl sulfate, the methyl -, β-chloroethyl, ethyl and butyl esters of benzenesulfonic acid or p-toluenesulfonic acid, and also the alkyl bromoacetates (with an alkyl radical of preferably 1 to 4 carbon atoms). Further alkylating agents are the following hydrogen halide esters: hexyl bromide, benzyl bromide, chloroacetonitrile, chloroacetamide, methyl 2-chloro-propionate, 3-chloro-propene, 2-chloro-ethanol, 3-chloro-propanol, 6-chloro-hexanol, glycerol-chlorohydrin , Glycerol dichlorohydrin and 3 methoxypropyl chloride.
Instead of certain substituted alkanol esters, their precursors can also be used, e.g. B. instead of ss-cyanoethyl or ss-carbamoylethyl chloride or bromide acrylonitrile or acrylamide in the presence of chlorine or hydrogen bromide. However, the preferred quaternizing agent is dimethyl sulfate or benzyl chloride.
According to the quaternizing agents used, the remainder alk z. B. in question: methyl, ethyl, propyl, n-butyl, n-pentyl, n-hexyl, 1-hydroxyhexyl, ss-hydroxyethyl, chloroethyl, cyanoethyl, H2N-CO-CH2 -, Cl-CH2-CH (OH) -CH2-, benzyl and methylbenzyl, 3 hydroxypropyl, carbamoylethyl, 3-methoxypropyl, carboxymethylethyl and propenyl radicals.
Anion An is understood to mean both organic and inorganic ions, e.g. B. halogen, such as chloride, bromide or iodide, alkyl sulfate, sulfate, disulfate, perchlorate, phosphotungstate, phosphotungstamolybdate, benzene or naphthalene sulfonate, 4-chlorobenzenesulfonate, oxalate, maleate, Acetate, propionate, methanesulfonate, chloroacetate, toluenesulfonate or benzoate ions.
These anions introduced according to the method can also be replaced by anions of other acids, for example phosphoric acid, acetic acid, oxalic acid, lactic acid, tartaric acid, maleic acid, crotonic acid, citric acid, nitric acid or benzoic acid. The dyes can also be isolated in the form of the complex salts with zinc or cadmium halides.
The alkylation is conveniently carried out by heating in an inert organic solvent, for example hydrocarbons such as benzene, toluene or xylene, halogenated hydrocarbons such as carbon tetrachloride, tetrachloroethane, chlorobenzene, o-dichlorobenzene, or nitrohydrocarbons such as nitromethane, nitrobenzene or nitrobenzene.
Acid anhydrides, acid amides or nitriles, such as acetic anhydride, dimethylformamide or acetonitrile or even dimethyl sulfoxide, can also be used as solvents in the alkylation. Instead of a solvent, it is also possible to use a large excess of alkylating agent. In this case, however, care must be taken that the mixture does not heat up excessively, as the reaction is strongly exothermic. Nevertheless, in most cases, especially in the presence of organic solvents, it is necessary to heat the reaction mixture from the outside in order to start the reaction. In special cases, the alkylation can also be carried out in an aqueous medium or using an alcohol, possibly in the presence of small amounts of potassium iodide.
If necessary, the salts are expediently purified by dissolving them in water, with any unconverted starting dye being able to be filtered off as an insoluble residue. The dye can be deposited again from the aqueous solution by adding water-soluble salts, for example sodium chloride.
The non-quaternized dyes are usually insoluble in water.
The new compounds, their mixtures with one another and their mixtures with other azo dyes are excellent for dyeing and printing leather, wool, silk and, above all, synthetic fibers, such as acrylic or acrylonitrile fibers, polyacrylonitrile fibers and copolymers of acrylonitrile and other vinyl compounds such as acrylic esters , Acrylamides, vinyl pyridine, vinyl chloride or vinylidene chloride, copolymers of dicyanoethylene and vinyl acetate, as well as acrylonitrile block copolymers, fibers made of polyurethanes, polyolefins, such as base-modified, nickel-modified or unmodified polypropylene, cellulose tri- and 2i-acetate, and especially fibers made of polyamides such as nylon-6, nylon-6,6 or nylon 12 and made of aromatic polyester,
such as those made from terephthalic acid and ethylene glycol or 1,4-dimethylcyclohexane, and copolymers made from terephthalic and isophthalic acid and ethylene glycol.
For dyeing in aqueous liquors, the water-insoluble dyes are expediently used in finely divided form and dyed with the addition of dispersants, such as sulphite cellulose liquor or synthetic detergents, or a combination of various wetting and dispersing agents. As a rule, it is expedient to convert the dyes to be used into a dye preparation which contains a dispersing agent and finely divided dye in such a form that a fine dispersion is formed when the dye preparations are diluted with water. Such dye preparations can be used in a known manner, e.g. can be obtained by milling the dye in dry or wet form with or without the addition of dispersants during the milling process.
After the wet grinding, dye preparations consisting of the textile auxiliary and the dye are obtained by subsequent drying.
For example, dispersants of the non-ionic group which can be used advantageously include: addition products of 8 mol of ethylene oxide with 1 mol of p-tert.-octylphenol, of 15 or 6 mol of ethylene oxide with castor oil, of 20 mol of ethylene oxide with the alcohol C16H33OH, and ethylene oxide Di- [a-phenylethyl] -phenols, poly äthylenoxyd- tert'-dodecyl-thioether, polyamine-polyglycol ethers or addition products of 15 or 30 mol of ethylene oxide with 1 mol of amine C12H25NH2 or CH37NH2.
The following may be mentioned as anionic dispersants: sulfuric acid esters of alcohols of the fatty series with 8 to 20 carbon atoms, of the ethylene oxide adducts of the corresponding fatty acid amides, or of alkylated phenols with 8 to 12 carbon atoms in the alkyl radical; Sulfonic acid esters with alkyl radicals with 8 to 20 carbon atoms; Sulfation products of unsaturated fats and oils; Phosphoric acid esters with alkyl radicals with 8 to 20 carbon atoms; Fatty acid soaps, also alkylarylsulfonates, condensation products of formaldehyde with naphthalenesulfonic acid and ligninsulfonates.
Suitable cationic dispersants are quaternary ammonium compounds which contain alkyl or aralkyl radicals with 8 to 20 carbon atoms.
In addition to the dispersants, the dye preparations can also contain organic solvents, in particular solvents which boil over 100% and which are preferably miscible with water, such as mono- and dialkyl glycol ethers, dioxane, dimethylformamide or acetamide, tetramethylene sulphone or dimethyl sulphoxide. The dye, dispersant and solvent can advantageously be ground together. It is also possible to use only solvents instead of the dispersant; but at least the dye preparations contain either a dispersant or a solvent.
The dyeing of the polyester fibers with the dyes according to the invention, which are sparingly soluble in water, from aqueous dispersion takes place according to the processes customary for polyester materials. Polyesters of aromatic polycarboxylic acids with polyhydric alcohols are preferably dyed at temperatures above 100 under pressure. However, the dyeing can also be carried out at the boiling point of the dyebath in the presence of dye carriers, for example phenylphenols, diphenyl polychlorobenzene compounds or similar auxiliaries, or by the thermosol process, i.e. Padding with subsequent treatment in the heat, e.g. B. heat setting, at 180 to 210 C, can be made.
Cellulose acetate fibers are preferably dyed at temperatures of 80 to 85 ° C., while cellulose triacetate fibers are advantageously dyed at the boiling point of the dyebath. When dyeing cellulose-2i-acetate or polyamide fibers, there is no need to use color carriers. Azo dyes according to the invention can also be used for printing the materials mentioned by customary methods.
To heat-set the dye, the padded polyester fabric, expediently after previous drying, for. B. in a warm air stream, heated to temperatures of over 100 93, for example between 180 to 210 9 =.
The dyeings obtained according to the present process can be subjected to an aftertreatment, for example by heating with an aqueous solution of an ion-free detergent.
Instead of by impregnation, the specified compounds can also be applied by printing according to the present process. For this purpose one uses z. B. a printing ink which contains the finely dispersed dye in addition to the auxiliaries customary in printing, such as wetting agents and thickeners.
Furthermore, you can z. B. dye in organic solvent liquors, such as in perchlorethylene or in a mixture of perchlorethylene and 5 to 10% dimethylformamide or methanol.

The present process gives strong dyeing and prints with good fastness properties, in particular good heat-setting, sublimation, pleating, smoke gas, dyeing, dry cleaning, chlorine and wet fastness properties, such as water, washing and perspiration fastnesses.
The new water-insoluble compounds can also be used for spin dyeing polyamides, polyesters and polyolefins. The polymer to be colored is expediently mixed in the form of powder, grains or chips as a finished spinning solution or in the molten state with the dye, which is introduced in the dry state or in the form of a dispersion or solution in an optionally volatile solvent. After homogeneous distribution of the dye in the solution or melt of the polymer, the mixture is processed into fibers, yarns, monofilaments, films, etc. in a known manner by casting, pressing or extrusion.
