Incineration grate for the incineration of urban and industrial waste
The invention relates to an incinerator grate for the incineration of urban and industrial waste, with grate bars preventing the material to fall through and a substantially horizontal grate arrangement.
The effective incineration of urban and industrial waste poses a difficult problem, in particular because the heating capacity, granularity, structure and combustion properties of the waste are very different depending on the production processes from which they originate.
For example, the waste generated in summer contains predominantly parts of vegetable origin, while, in contrast, waste from winter largely contains household ash. An economical, complete and hygienically perfect removal of waste by incineration is therefore very difficult.
A large number of grates and grate bars for the purpose of incinerating urban and industrial waste have become known. The grates, where the fuel is only fed in and the fire is only transmitted through the fall of already burning fuel parts into the lower fuel layers under the action of gravity, have not really proven themselves. It is therefore advantageous to use belt grids and sliding grids.
The fuel lies relatively quietly on these grates and is only fed over the grate from the feed hopper to the end of the grate. So there is no relative movement of the waste parts, and the combustion is therefore worse, the finer-grained and more compact the fuel, since the mixing is not sufficiently intensive.
A grate was also known which is divided into several longitudinal belts, one of which is always movable and the other is fixed. Even with this grate, there is insufficient mixing of the waste because it is only pushed forward. The entire length of the grate is formed as a single structural unit in the individual belts, and it is therefore not possible to achieve a movement speed and a stroke of the grate bars in the individual belts.
Attempts have also been made to use a perforating grate. In the known designs, however, the grate is designed obliquely with a great incline. All grate bars are movable and have the same stroke and the same speed. It is not possible to regulate the ignition, the actual combustion and the afterburning according to the fuel properties. Because the carriages carrying the movable grate bars are arranged continuously over the entire length of the grate. Also a complete sealing of the car passage through the band plates is structurally very difficult and causes constant operational difficulties, although it is very important to adjust the necessary amount of combustion air in the individual bands depending on the course of the combustion.
The known solutions also do not take into account the fact that when the baked fuel or the fuel forming the baked lump is burned, the baked mass is caused to accumulate in certain parts of the grate. The grate would therefore have to be arranged in such a way that the formation of an accumulation of the baked mass is prevented as far as possible or that it is possible, if necessary, to automatically crush and divert this mass through the action of the grate function.
In other known designs, the grates consist of two or more horizontal or inclined grids, of which the first shorter grate is mounted higher and serves as a loading and pre-drying grate and the other serves as the actual combustion grate. In these designs, however, there is no layer slide for adjusting the height of the waste layer. The layer of waste on the loading grate, which is formed depending on the height of the outlet opening of the loading hopper and the slope angle of the waste, is automatically piled high on the loading grate, which prevents good predrying and ignition of the waste.
Last but not least, the way in which the grate works for incinerating waste is influenced by the grate bars that make up the grate. So far, the so-called lump diarrhea preventing grate bars with cooling fins have proven to be the best. In these known designs, however, the ribs are arranged in such a way that the pairs of grate bars form chambers, meanders and channels which slow down and retard the flow of cooling air considerably, thereby reducing the cooling intensity of the grate bars. The broken line of the cooling fins, mainly in the upper, thermally stressed part of the grate bars, causes completely inadequate heat dissipation.
The sprues on the surface of the grate bars form an obstacle to the fuel feed running over the grate bar and cause the gaps and channels through which cooling and combustion air to flow are blocked. The service life of these known grate bars is therefore short.
The stated disadvantages are eliminated by the invention in that the grate consists in an alternating sequence of fixed and movable grate bars, which are each arranged on a system of inner and outer carriages, the grate is divided longitudinally into at least three movement zones, each of which is independent are operable and arranged in an independent, sealed air zone with adjustable air supply, and the drive for the movable grate bars is designed in such a way that a movable grate bar can always be moved opposite to the preceding movable grate bar, and the stroke length and the speed of the movable grate bars in each Movement zone are adjustable.
In the following the invention is explained in more detail by means of an exemplary embodiment with reference to drawings.

1 shows an arrangement of the grate according to the invention in which the grate is distributed over three movement fields.
The grate consists of grate bars 4 and 6 which prevent the material to fall through, the grate bars 4 being movable and the grate bars 6 being stationary. The moving part of a grate field is formed from the outer carriage 2 and the inner carriage 1. Each zone can be operated independently, so that it is possible to set both the speed and the stroke of the movable grate bars 4 during operation.
In Figs. 2 and 3, the arrangement of a grate field is drawn in the central position. The rows of fixed grate bars 6 are received by the carriers 5.
The moving parts of the grate are formed by the outer carriage 2 and the inner carriage 1, which are mounted on the tiltable roller supports 7. The rows of the movable grate bars 4 are supported by the supports 3 attached to the carriages 1 and 2. The movement of the carriages 1, 2 is caused by the pivoting movement of the shaft 15 by means of the wedged levers 14, the tie rods 12, 16 of the pins 11, 13 and the consoles 10. For the purpose of regulating the speed and the stroke length of the movable grate bars, a system is used which is formed from the variator drive with rotatable crank 20, the pull rod 19 and the link lever 17 with regulating wheel 18. The shaft 15 is mounted in the ball bearings 21 shown schematically, which are held in the side parts 22 of the grate.
The limit positions of the movable grate bars 4 are shown in dashed lines.
In FIG. 4, the tiltable roller support 7 is drawn in the central position. By rotating the roller support 7 around the pin 8, it is possible to convert the linear movement of the movable grate bars 4 into a pivoting movement for the purpose of better mixing and combustion of the fuel on the grate. The boundary positions of the support rollers 9 and the movable grate bars 4 are shown in dashed lines.
In FIGS. 5 to 8 the individual working phases of the grate according to the invention are shown schematically.
In Fig. 5, the grate bars are drawn in the central position. The grate bars 6 are stationary, while the grate bars 4 are movable, so that every second grate bar is movable, whereby it is always movable opposite to the preceding movable grate bar.
6 shows an end position of the rows of grate bars, where the outer carriage 2 has pushed the row of movable grate bars 4 out into the highest upper position and the inner carriage 1 has pushed the movable row into the lowest position.
In Fig. 7 an end position is shown where the inner carriage 1 is in the highest upper position and the outer carriage 2 is in the lowest lower position.
In Fig. 8 the path of passage of the waste along the grate is shown.
As can be seen from FIGS. 9 and 10, the head 23 of each grate bar is designed to be smooth in the longitudinal direction and without ribs, so that the fuel can be advanced in the direction towards the front 27 of the grate bar. The shoulder 24 of the surface of the grate bars prevents the fuel being conveyed from moving backwards. The ribs 25, which are arranged in a fan-like direction, improve the contact of the grate bars with the cooling air and lead the air to the waste. The prevention of diarrhea is achieved by the sprues 28 arranged in the lower part of the grate bar surface and protruding between the ribs 25 of the adjacent grate bar. In this way, a minimal resistance of the flowing cooling and combustion air is achieved. The grate bars 4 are supported by means of a hanger 29 with play relative to the grate bar carriers 3.
The shape of the grate bars is also designed in such a way that the neighboring grate bars can be shifted approximately 1.5 mm from one another. This allows fine pieces of waste that have remained stuck between the grate bars to crumble off. For this purpose, the contact surfaces 30 of the adjacent grate bars can also be beveled and diverge downwards. The cooling and combustion air can flow along the entire surface of the grate bar. A portion of the grate bar surface has the recess 31 in the vicinity of the hanger 29, for the purpose of the more effortless flow of the cooling and combustion air around the grate bar.
Due to the fact that the grate according to the invention is equipped with grate bars in the design described above which prevent the material to fall through, it is specially adapted to the requirements for the incineration of urban and industrial waste, and optimal incineration conditions are ensured. The stroke length and the speed of movement of the grate bars can be adjusted, and the amount of combustion air can also be regulated during operation. As a result, the conditions for better waste incineration are met, taking their variability into account. The grate has a good chafing effect, the waste is constantly being loosened. The work of the grate ensures that the waste is well mixed, thrown through and circulated.
The formation of high steps and deep depressions in the end positions of the grate bars prevents waste from being baked into large pieces, allows radiant heat to penetrate the waste layer and ensures complete access of combustion air. The grate is designed horizontally so that it has a low overall height, and the requirements for the height and the lined space of the antechamber or the combustion chamber are minimal. The grate ensures optimal hygienic conditions, as the operating personnel almost never come into contact with the waste. The movement mechanism contains only a small number of functional parts that are subject to wear.
The system of the wagons is balanced in all positions, which means that little drive force is required to drive the grate. Since the grate uses grate bars to prevent the burning material from falling through, which are designed without chambers and ribs protruding into one another, the grate bars are constantly cooled intensively, which is why they have no burn points and their service life is long.
The smooth design of the grate bar heads in the longitudinal direction enables an uninterrupted feed of the waste in the direction of the grate bar front.
The grate according to the invention is particularly intended for the incineration of waste, but it can also be used with advantage for burning inferior fuels with a high ash content.
