Description

Additional patent subordinate to main patent No. 402094 Protective sheath of the metallic sheath of a cable and method of manufacturing this sheath The present invention relates to a protective sheath for the metallic sheath of a cable according to claim I of main patent, characterized in that it comprises a corrosion inhibiting coating, a self-sealing plastic layer and an outer protective plastic sheath,

the self-sealing adhesive material being bitumen elasticized by incorporation of an elastomer. The whole is arranged so as to form an anti-corrosion protection device for an electric cable in a metallic sheath.

The subject of the invention is also a method of manufacturing this sheath according to claim II of the main patent, characterized in that the hot applied, by passing through the tarpaulin, the layer of elasticized bitumen on the outer surface of the sheath. metallic cable which has been coated with a corrosion inhibitor and then allowed to cool said layer before application, by means of an extruder, of the outer protective sheath.

In the main patent, an electric cable has been described comprising around a metal sheath the following elements - a corrosion inhibiting coating , - a layer of self-sealing adhesive plastic, - a outer protective sheath in plastic material.

According to the present addition, the self-sealing adhesive plastic material is bitumen elasticized by incorpo ration of elastomers.

The proportion of elastomer thus incorporated is advantageously, although not necessarily, between 5 and 10% of the total weight of the mixture.

These elastomers can be, for example, natural gum, or butyl rubber, or styrene-butadiene rubber. Preferably, the bitumen thus elasticized is prepared so as to have the following physical properties - softening point T, measured by the method known as <ball and ring; 750 C G 26850C; - penetration index at 250 C for 100 grams in 5 seconds: G 50 mm.

Experience has shown that such an elasticized bitumen adheres perfectly to the corrosion inhibiting coating and to the outer protective plastic sheath, whether the latter is made of polyvinyl chloride or of polyethylene.

This layer of elasticized bitumen is preferably applied hot, by passing through a tarpaulin, then cooling die before application, by means of an extruder, of the outer protective sheath.
