Method and device for the production of welded pipe elbows Pipe elbows for pipeline construction are either cast or formed by oxy-fuel welding of two drawn sheet metal parts that touch along a plane and that have the shape of a 90 or 180 degree bend for a 90 or 180 degree bend Have a curved channel with the profile of half a circular ring.
The casting of elbows requires expensive molds and cores, the welding of elbows is linked to much expensive manual labor. A cheaper production without a reduction in quality would be desirable.
The invention makes it possible to make the production of welded elbows cheaper, to improve the quality of the end product and to largely automate the production. The method proposed according to the invention for this purpose is characterized in that the welding is carried out by electrical butt welding, with each elbow half being fixed on the welding jaws of the butt welding machine by means of an electromagnetic chuck, which has a bearing surface adapted to the spatial external shape of the elbow half owns,
the chucks are provided with cooling devices and the welding current is supplied directly via the chucks holding the Krümmerhälften. The workpiece is expediently stored in an intermediate piece. The chuck for performing this method is characterized in that it carries massive inserts and supports made of highly thermally conductive, non-magnetizable metal, at least in its areas adjacent to the workpiece support, and in these areas it is penetrated by a coolant lead through the channels.
The chuck according to the invention solves the problem of the automatic holding of the elbow halves to be welded in an electromagnetic way. A simple mechanical solution to this problem is in view of the impossibility of mechanically grasping the elbow halves (they do not provide surfaces for this purpose on which mechanical tensioning devices can act), it is unimaginable that one welds one's own holding members to the elbow halves or you accept severe deformations, but such measures lead to cost-increasing rework.
The chuck can, as far as the generation of the magnetic field is concerned, be of a known construction, but a change from the known proves necessary because the chuck in the present case is on the one hand exposed to strong heating in the company and therefore measures to Cooling of the chuck must be met, on the other hand the supply of the very strong welding currents through the chuck must be done because the surfaces that are not needed on the workpiece for its fixation to the chuck are too small to provide the required by them alone To be able to conduct welding currents.
It is useful if the chuck essentially consists of a magnetic plate and a part forming the workpiece support, which is only used to transmit the magnetic lines of force to the workpiece and to accommodate the coolant channels, but is kept free of those devices that build the magnetic Serving the field.
It is known per se to use magnetic chucks in welding technology. Thus, a magnetic clamping device for welding has already become known, which essentially consists of a single permanent magnet with adjustable soft-iron conductor pieces that act on its poles. However, this is only a device that is used to correctly fix planar structural parts and it is not possible with this device to secure parts that only offer spherical surfaces to the attack of the holding means.
Furthermore, magnetic holding devices of a similar type are known that use an elec tromagnets instead of the permanent magnet and are set up to drive over the two workpieces whose mutual position they are to fix; These clamping devices do not have a special reference to electric welding.
Here, too, it is not clear how the problem of mutual fixation of curved parts could be solved without flat holding surfaces, and it is not necessary, especially with these known holding devices, to place the welding point in the holding device itself, as in the present case of the The smallness of the parts to be welded is necessary; Only then do the problems arise that result from the heat development within the magnetic Spannein direction in connection with the need for power to be supplied to the welding point.
Embodiments of the feed according to the invention are shown in the schematic drawing Darge. 1 shows a first embodiment of a magnetic chuck to be used within the scope of the invention in plan view and in FIG. 2 in section along line II-II of FIG. 1; 3 and 4 a second embodiment, also in plan view or in section along line IV-IV of FIGS. 3 and 5, a third embodiment.
In Figs. 1 and 2, the manifold half 1 is interpreted; it is magnetically pressed against a groove-shaped recess which is adapted to its outer shape and which is provided in the cores of three magnet pairs 2, 3 and 4. As can be seen from Fig. 2, each of these pairs is formed by the legs 3, 3a of a laminated core of U-shape, and the magnetic coils 5 are applied to each leg of the core; the power supplies are not shown.
The spaces located in the upper part of the chuck between the cores are filled with solid copper pieces 6, 7 or parts made of another non-magnetizable metal of sufficient heat resistance and good electrical conductivity. In these blocks channels 8 are drilled, which carry a coolant that may have its inlet at 9 and its outlet at 10.
The parts 6 enclose the magnet system and form its housing, which also serves to dissipate heat, for which other measures, such as cooling fins, can also be used. Since there will also be gaps between the individual lamellas of the magnetic cores, these can be used to, for example at 12, inject cooling air into the interior of the magnetic structure, which will then emerge at the top of the lining. The coils 5 are wound with a temperature-resistant wire.
The iron cores of the electromagnets are in an electrically conductive connection with the shell 6 and the inserts made of good heat-conducting metal. The welding current is applied directly to these highly conductive blocks and enveloping bodies 6 and therefore also flows into the workpiece using the iron parts 3 as conductors; part of the current can be fed through the insert 7 to the workpiece.
The construction according to FIGS. 1 and 2 brings the magnetic holding force, which is in the order of magnitude of about 100 kg for bends with a clear width of about 30 mm (and depending on the dimensions of the area to be welded can be larger or smaller) with three Pairs of electromagnets, but it is understood that numerous variations are possible in this regard.
The construction principle shown in the drawings allows the housing of a considerably larger number of smaller magnets, whereby it proves to be favorable if the magnetic holding force is achieved by the magnetic field generated by a pair of poles being through the Workpiece is closed.
The chuck according to FIGS. 3 and 4 is used to produce 180 elbows. It shows the other extreme of the structure, as the holding force is only generated by a single pair of magnets, which then have to be dimensioned accordingly. One recognizes again the hollow bead-shaped groove 12 in the pole pieces of the magnet pair 13, in which the workpiece 14 rests during the welding process, and the two magnetic coils which are attached to the legs of an essentially U-shaped armature. In Fig. 3, for the sake of clarity, only the magnetic core system is shown. The side of the chuck facing the workpiece is particularly important, cf.
Fig. 4, abundantly provided with copper blocks 15, 16 and together with a bottom part 17 forms a Ge housing. In this case, the coolant Füh-generating channels 18 are also provided in the laminated magnet cores, and, as far as they enforce the laminated core, designed as copper tubes. In this case, too, the current is supplied by direct connection of the supply conductors (not shown) to the outer shell 15, 17 of the clamping devices, and in this case the welding current will therefore also make its way to the workpiece through the magnetic cores.
In order to facilitate the insertion of the workpieces in the chuck, these stops 20, which ensure that the elbow halves, when their frontal limit abut such a stop, already assume the correct position within the chuck.
A simplified but nevertheless well-proven embodiment of a chuck according to the invention is shown in FIG. 5. This chuck consists essentially of a magnetic plate 20 of a type known per se, as is used to hold workpieces on machine tools, and of a part forming the workpiece support 21, which is only used to transmit the magnetic lines of force to the workpiece and to accommodate the coolant channels 22, but is kept free from the structure of the magnetic field serving devices.
One recognizes the cavities 23 in which the electromagnetic windings are housed and the locking pieces 24 of these spaces, which are usually made of brass. Analogously, the workpiece support 21 consists of iron parts 21a and non-ferrous parts 21b. In contrast to the known use of such magnetic disks, in the present case the magnetic disk itself has current flowing through it by directing the intermediate part 21, for which purpose the parts 21b made of non-magnetizable metal in this ausgebil Deten serve, which are separated from the iron parts 21a that transmit the magnetic lines of force. The coolant channel or channels 22 are formed in the intermediate part, which means that the design problems resulting from the combination of windings and channels do not occur at all.
Magnetic plate 20 and workpiece carrier or inter mediate piece 21 are connected in a manner not shown, for example by a screw connection.
The welding process expediently proceeds in such a way that each elbow half is fixed in a chuck of the type described here and that the surfaces to be welded that are brought into mutual contact, as soon as they have reached the required temperature, are slightly removed from one another and held in this position until the weld has become sufficiently firm.
This type of electrical butt welding is known per se and leads to an improved weld seam and also to a drawing in of the weld burr. The finished welded manifold can then be subjected to an embellishing post-processing; inside it has a sufficiently smooth weld that can be left without reworking.
It is possible to use the invention also for welding elbow halves along non-planar surfaces.
