Device for cooling an electrical machine The present invention relates to a device for cooling an electrical machine by means of a liquefied refrigerating fluid.
This device is characterized by an inlet pipe for introducing the liquefied refrigerant fluid into at least one end of the machine so that it circulates through the air gap between the rotor and the stator, and an outlet pipe for removing the machine refrigerant at a point remote from the point of introduction.
The appended drawing represents, by way of example, two embodiments of the device which is the subject of the invention.
Fig. 1 is a schematic view of the first embodiment.
Fig. 2 is a section on 2-2 of FIG. 1. FIG. 3 is a schematic view of the second embodiment.
The embodiment shown in FIG. 1 is a device for cooling the electric motor by dragging the centrifugal compressor 31 of a cold machine. This motor is fixed to the rear wall 34 of the compressor. The motor comprises a cylindrical casing 36 closed by an end wall 37. The casing 36 contains the stator 38 and bearing supports 40 and 44. The rotor 41 is carried by a shaft 42, 43 rotating in bearings carried by the supports 40 and 44, and carrying the rotor 30 of the compressor.
An annular distributor 46 for liquefied refrigerant is mounted in the motor housing at the outer end thereof and has a series of injection ports 46a spaced around its circumference for injecting liquefied refrigerant into the engine. the gap 47 between the rotor 41 and the stator 38. The gap 47 is quite large, as shown in FIG. 2, to facilitate rapid flow of refrigerant. In addition, the stator and the rotor respectively have grooves 38a and 41a which increase the width of the air gap 47 in places and allow the admission of a sufficient quantity of refrigerant fluid to ensure the desired cooling of the diodes. all parts of the engine.
Adjustments can be arranged to vary the section of the orifices of the distributor according to the desired operating pressures. The distributor 46 is supplied with liquefied refrigerant fluid by tubes 47a passing through the wall 37 and the support 40. The tubes 47a are connected to a pipe 49 which leaves from a chamber 50 containing a float. The chamber 50 receives the liquefied refrigerant from a pipe 52 connected to the outlet 53 of the condenser 54, 57, 58 of the cold machine.
This chamber 50 has an outlet 59 which is connected to a refrigerant pipe 61 leading to the inlet 23 of the evaporator 10. A float 63, of spherical shape, is mounted in the chamber 50. A rod 64 connected to the float 63 extends downwardly and is pivotally connected to levers 65 and 66 connected to a butterfly 67 pivoting at 68.
If the quantity of liquefied refrigerant arriving through line 52 is not sufficient to maintain liquid in chamber 50 at the level indicated at 69, float 63 is lowered so as to keep butterfly 67 closed, as shown in fig. . 1. Any tendency for liquid to rise above level 69 causes float 63 to rise so as to open butterfly 67 to bring liquid back to level 69.
In this way, there is always a sufficient quantity of liquefied refrigerant fluid in the float chamber to supply the distributor 46 with refrigerant and to form a liquid seal between the outlet of the condenser and the inlet of the evaporator 10. The coolant injected by the distributor passes through the air gap 47 in the axial direction and cools the engine by vaporizing. The vaporized fluid is discharged into the compressor casing, the flow being favored by a fan formed by a plate 70 carrying vanes 71, mounted in an opening 35 of the wall 34 of the compressor through which the interior of the motor housing communicates with the compressor casing.
Thus, during the operation of the engine, the fan 70, 71 mounted on the motor shaft ensures the suction of the refrigerant fluid in the motor casing and its discharge in the compressor casing. In this way, the circulation of refrigerant through the engine is ensured with a minimum of piping.
The embodiment shown in FIG. 3 is a device for cooling the electric motor with a sealed casing also driving the compressor of a cold machine.
The motor housing 80 supports the stator 38a of the motor, and bearings 44a and 40a in which the shaft 42a, 43a of the rotor 41a of the motor rotates, on which the compressor rotor is mounted. The housing 80 is closed by an end wall 37a.
Two supply members 88 and 89 of the liquefied refrigerant fluid are used to cool the engine.
Each of these members comprises a wall 91 having an orifice, an orifice adjustment member 92 and a compression spring 93 acting on a rod carrying the adjustment member 92 to control the pressure drop which occurs across. the power supply. A manually adjustable nut 95 allows the force of the spring 93 to be varied, so as to allow the engine cooling rate to be adjusted.
To eliminate the refrigerant from the air gap 47a, an opening 97 is provided in the casing 80. A connector 98 connects the opening 97 to a pipe 99 which is connected to a low pressure zone of the cold machine.
The liquefied refrigerant fluid is supplied to the pipe 49 leading to the members 88 and 89 by the chamber 50 receiving this fluid from the condenser through a pipe 52.
The coolant flows axially through the air gap 47a of the spaces adjacent to the opposite ends of the stator 38a, towards the middle of this air gap and leaves it through the discharge line 99 and thus passes into intimate contact with the parts of the stator. engine with the highest operating temperature.
The liquefied refrigerant while vaporizing, thus absorbs large quantities of heat, then it is withdrawn in gaseous form as a result of the difference .e = nbetween the positive inlet pressure and a lower pressure prevailing in another part of the cold machine allowing the establishment of the engine cooling cycle.
