Process for the production of finely dispersed suspendable metal pigments The present invention relates to the production of finely dispersed suspendable metal pigments based on Al, Cu, Zn, Au, Ag, brass, bronze and similar ductile metals.
It is known to produce a paste compatible with water by saponification (formation of aluminum salts of higher fatty acids) from an aluminum paste milled in ball mills in the presence of lubricants and dispersants (hydrocarbons). This method is relatively costly because it requires a further operation, and also has the disadvantage that the dispersant - z. B. white spirit - remains in the paste and can only be removed from it if necessary by further laborious operations.
The method according to the invention now consists in grinding pre-comminuted ductile metal (Al, Cu, Zn, Au, Ag, brass, bronze and the like) with the addition of water.
According to one embodiment of the invention, aluminum powder with a grain size below 500 μl, preferably so-called atomized aluminum powder (aluminum powder sprayed from the melt flow), is ground with the addition of water.
According to a preferred embodiment, such grinding of aluminum powder under water is carried out to avoid a reaction of the oxide-free aluminum produced by the grinding with the water with the addition of fats which are finely distributed in the water by emulsifiers. In this way, a regulated oxidation is achieved, which stabilizes the resulting aluminum flake and no longer leads to any further post-reaction.
Animal and vegetable fats and fatty acids can be used as fats. Low molecular weight emulsifiers with predominantly hydrophilic properties, low molecular weight emulsifiers with predominantly lipophilic properties and high molecular weight emulsifiers such as albumins, casein, gelatine,
Use glue and gum arabic.
The grinding process takes place in such a way that pre-crushed aluminum, preferably atomized powder, what water, lubricants, e.g. B. fats or fatty acids and an emulsifier are used and then the grinding process begins. When the grinding is complete, the ground material is washed out with water and then pressed to a paste consistency.
The resulting product is storable, no longer tends to react, not even when heated, and is easily dispersible in water.
According to the following Ausführungsbeispie len, to which the invention is not limited, the procedure is as follows: 1. 3000 parts by weight of balls, 30-150 parts by weight of atomized aluminum powder with a grain size below 500, c1, 20-75 parts by weight of stearic acid are introduced into the mill , 0.1-1.5 parts by weight casein. The grinding process is then initiated and - as already described above - the paste is obtained.
2. 3000 parts by weight of balls, 30-150 parts by weight of atomized aluminum powder with a grain size below 500 cc, 20-75 parts by weight of tallow, 0.1-1, 5 parts by weight of morpholine. The grinding process is then initiated and - as already described above - the paste is obtained.
3. 3000 parts by weight of balls, 30-150 parts by weight of atomized aluminum powder with a grain size below 500 μ, 20-75 parts by weight of oleic acid, 0.1 to 1.5 parts by weight of triethanolamine. The grinding process is then initiated and - as already described above - the paste is obtained.
The paste prepared according to the invention can preferably be used for the production of aerated concrete and for the production of finely dispersible aluminum paints (heat-insulating wall protection paint, wood preservation paint), in the pharmaceutical industry and for finishing molds when casting iron.
