Diese Verjüngung der Rippen hat nachstehende Vorteile: 1. wird eine gewisse progressive Federwirkung (bzw. Polsterwirkung) erzielt; 2. bietet diese Rippenform besonderen Widerstand gegen ein Ausbrechen oder Ausreissen; 3. ist beim Zusammenlegen der Schlafunterlage die Reibung zwischen den einander berührenden Seitenflanken der Rippen praktisch vernachlässig- bar, und es besteht keine Gefahr, dass beim Wiederauspacken durch das Herausziehen einzel ner Rippen aus den Rillen zwischen den andern Rippen diese Rippen beschädigt werden und ein zelne Teilchen des Schaumkunststoffes ausbrechen;
was zusam- men also bei normalem Rollen rund 50 % ausmacht.
Sleeping pad The invention relates to sleeping pads which are particularly suitable for camping purposes. Until now, inflatable rubber mattresses have mostly been used as sleeping pads when camping. In addition to many advantages, these have the disadvantage that if damaged, the air escapes and the mattress becomes practically worthless. It has also been proposed to use foam rubber pads for sleeping. However, the foam rubber mattresses that have become known for this have not caught on in practice, perhaps because they are relatively large and unwieldy and also quite heavy.
Sleeping pads with quilted upholstery made of kapok and the like are also known. However, these have not found widespread use because, in addition to the disadvantages already mentioned above, they are not insensitive to moisture.
The aim of the invention is to provide a sleeping pad which offers the same advantage of absolute safety as foam rubber mattresses, but with the above-mentioned disadvantages being avoided by appropriate selection of the material and a special shape.
According to the invention, a foam plastic board is provided as a sleeping pad which has ribs on its underside, the thickness of which decreases from the board towards the outside.
This tapering of the ribs has the following advantages: 1. A certain progressive spring effect (or cushioning effect) is achieved; 2. This rib shape offers particular resistance to breaking or tearing out; 3. When folding the sleeping pad, the friction between the touching side flanks of the ribs is practically negligible, and there is no risk of individual ribs being damaged by pulling individual ribs out of the grooves between the other ribs when unpacking Break out particles of the plastic foam;
4. results in an optimal degree of filling in the packaged state, because the parallel flanks of the ribs otherwise (especially to avoid the difficulties mentioned under point 3) neces sary additional distance between the one opposite flanks of the ribs can be omitted.
It is advisable to choose the distance of the ribs from one another in relation to the width of the ribs so that in the case of two panels placed on top of each other, the ribs of one panel come to lie within the grooves of the other panel. It is advantageous here if the tabular part and the ribs consist of one piece.
In a preferred embodiment, the outline of the ribs and the intervening grooves are designed to be undulating.
It is of particular importance for the entirety and for the convenience that the foam plastic used for manufacture is air-permeable on at least one side.
In the following the invention is explained in connection with the figures representing the exemplary embodiments. 1 shows a cross section through a board, FIG. 2 shows a cross section through a differently designed board, FIG. 3 schematically shows a packaging device, FIG. 4 shows a detail of this packaging device. 1 and 2 show cross sections through various embodiments of the mattress. In the embodiment according to FIG. 1, the cross section of the ribs and of the grooves is arcuate, for example sinusoidal.
In the embodiment according to FIG. 2, the cross-section of the ribs and the grooves is trapezoidal. It is also shown that the plate 1 has a projecting bead 2 on its underside, which engages in a corresponding recess on the edge of the upper side of the plate 3. As a result, the adjacent panels are connected to each other, and no annoying gap can arise between the panels placed next to one another while sleeping.
It has been shown that mattresses made of foam plastic have a more comfortable cushioning effect than those made of foam rubber, because a stronger, progressively increasing pressure is necessary when pressing together. Uneven floors are significantly better absorbed by foam plastic than by any other soft material.
Foam plastic is also not swellable, so, in contrast to fabrics, does not absorb moisture from the air. Water is only absorbed when the foam plastic itself is in the water. Foam plastic can also be boiled safely.
The practical use of foam plastic mattresses has shown a very good insulation effect against the cold floor.
From Fig. 3 it can be seen how the mattress can be packed to save space for transport. The tightly rolled up foam plastic panels 1 are pushed into a sheath which consists of a rectangular linen cover 4, two rods 5 fastened to the ends of the cover and corresponding locking devices 6. As can be seen in FIG. 4, the bars 5 are inserted into corresponding loops or hems.
The packaging described below has proven to be ideal in some respects: A piece of fabric, plastic film, stamoid or similar is used, at least the width of the desired roll, but better a bit wider, for wrapping and protecting the pages and at least 1 1 / 2 times as long, preferably about 21/2 times as long as the circumference of the desired roll. The required number of mats (2, 3, 4 or more) is simply rolled into this fabric, similar to a bath roll.
Due to the adhesion of the packaging material to itself at 2-3 times the rotation, the foam plastic can no longer burst open the shell, and it is sufficient to secure the whole thing with one or better two relatively weak rubber bands, preferably sewn onto the packaging material. A transparent plastic film is used as the packaging material, which, when placed on top of one another three times, clearly shows the pattern of the foam mat, especially in its colors.
The volume reduction through pressed rolling alone is a maximum, that is, if three people roll with all their might, 50 0/0, but normally, depending on the strength of the person rolling, 30-35 0/0. In addition, there is the 25% volume reduction due to the interlocking of grooves and ribs,
which together makes up around 50% with normal rolling.
