An object of the present invention is a gripping device for an automobile lift.
This device is characterized by the fact that it comprises a support which is attached, in a removable manner, to the movable lifting member of the elevator, a fork articulated on said support so as to be able to tilt forward, a hydraulic cylinder controlling the tilting movements of said fork and having means for connecting it to the pressurized fluid network of the elevator, a bottom claw, used as a jaw, and a hydraulic cylinder, also having means intended to connect it to the pressurized fluid network of the elevator, this cylinder acting on said claw independently of the position of the fork.
The appended drawing represents, by way of example, an embodiment of the device which is the subject of the invention.
Fig. 1 is an elevational view of this embodiment of the device adapted to an automobile lift.
Fig. 2 is a plan view of this device on an enlarged scale, certain parts being cut away. Fig. 3 is a section taken along line III-III of FIG. 2.
Fig. 4 is a section taken along line IV-IV of FIG. 2, some parts having been removed to increase the clarity of the drawing, and FIG. 5 is a perspective view of an accessory of the device.
The elevator shown comprises a self-moving carriage 1 carrying, at the front, two uprights 2 serving as a guide for two cross members 3 and 4 which constitute a device holder. These crosspieces slide along the uprights, controlled by a hydraulic device, not shown, belonging to the elevator which is not the subject of the present invention.
The device shown comprises a support 5 provided with three hooks 6 intended to hang on the cross member 3 and the lower part of which is intended to bear against the cross member 4 to which it is fixed by bolts. This support has two ears 7 on which is articulated at 8 a fork formed of a base plate 9 carrying a series of teeth 10. The fork can thus tilt around the articulation axis 8. Its movements are controlled by two hydraulic cylinders 11 connected to the pressurized oil network of the elevator 1 by flexible pipes not shown.
These cylinders are each articulated at 12 on the fork while the pistons which they contain, not shown, are each articulated at 13 on the support 5. These hydraulic cylinders make it possible to control the tilting movements of the fork in both directions. the fork.
The base plate 9 has, at its ends, two extensions 9a on which is articulated at 14, a claw 15 functioning as a jaw. The movements of this jaw are controlled by two jacks 16 intended to be connected, by flexible pipes not shown, to the hydraulic network of the elevator. These jacks are each articulated at 17 on a lever 18 integral with the claw 15. The piston housed in each of the cylinders of the jacks is articulated on the frame of the fork. The claw 15 forms with the fork a clamp which can thus be opened and closed. The device described and shown is intended for handling bulk products, in particular metal turning waste.
It works as follows. The elevator is moved towards the turning pile, the device being located in its lower position, claw open. The fork thus enters the turn. The claw is then closed, pinching a certain amount of turn which can go up to several hundred kg. The elevator is then moved back while the device rises along the uprights 2, which facilitates the pulling of the turn gripped by the clamp. To unload this turn, just raise the claw and lower the fork forward.
The device shown further comprises, as an accessory, a shovel 19 (FIG. 5) comprising a bottom 19a and two side walls 19b. This shovel is designed to be attached to the fork for the transport of small-scale scrap metal. The anterior edge = r of the bottom 19a has, on its lower face, a flange 19c to which the ends of the teeth 10 of the fork are hooked.
The shovel has two ears 20 each pierced with a hole 21 intended to receive an ankle, not shown, penetrating further into a hole 22 of the fork (FIG. 2) in order to hold the shovel in place on the fork. The assembly of this shovel is very fast, because it rests on the ground by its side walls 19b, a free space remaining between the bottom 19a and the ground. It is thus possible to slide the fork under the shovel by moving the elevator forward until the tips of the teeth 10 enter the fold 19c.
